I got a tattoo just before the lockdown (like I got it on the Thursday and we went on lockdown the following Monday) and it needs a second session so I'm kinda lucky 😂

Jessica Consolver I’m sorry that you had to cancel. It’s so frustrating when you get all excited and then have to wait. I keep thinking of all the people that had to cancel vacations and big occasions like weddings. Still best to be safe and hopefully we will be able to resume our normal lives in the near future.

I don't know how much wait time has your tattoo artist, but logically shut down was in mid March (in my country) , so there were probably booked people until April/May (counting 1, max 2 months waiting time for artist I go to), I had one session in April and other one should be in May. So people who had sessions from mid March should be re-booked as first and get their dates as first. I guess no bookings are being done now as shut-down is mostly until unknown time period. I hope the dates will be re-booked in a fair way, lol. I have no experience with such artists who have 6+months waiting time in normal set-up, so I can't judge this.

I had my first leg piece booked for the end of April, it's likely it will have to be rescheduled. Which is fine, because I'm immunocompromised anyway, but it's just disappointing. 😭

Love videos of you two together! also don't worry, I'm a Romanian gypsy and none of my family or any gypsy I've ever met is offended by that word. I've only ever heard non gypsies talk about it being offensive. If you were to use it as an insult it would obviously be offensive but as a descriptive word, nah not offensive.

Technically you are 100% correct but in my experience, they don't mind gypsy as long as it's not used as a slur to degrade them. I grew up with Romani and they use the word gypsy themselves and never had a problem with me, my family or strangers using it as well in a neutral way. But in case you wanna play safe, Romani is the way to go :)

Not all gypsies are Romani so no. And the more correct way to spell it would be Rromany or Rromani, but you can also spell it romani or romany. However, most people won't mind you saying gypsy, I'm a gypsy and I've discussed this with fellow Rromany gypsies and we don't really mind unless it's in a derogatory way or you're using it as a slur.

Ima have to call my tattoo artist tomorrow to reschedule next weeks appointment for June which is probably the saddest thing and this is making me even more impatient but calm cause at least I get to see other people’s work, if that makes sense 😂 Love it!

Shayla Knipe I’ve done some reading on this and as far as I can tell it depends on the person. Using Romani (or Irish traveller) is more accurate to their cultural heritage. There’s a huge debate over what definitions can be used because there’s more than one meaning for the word gypsy (lowercase)

I grew up with gypsies and lemme tell you: they mostly don't care wether you say gypsy or not as long as you don't use it to insult them or something like that. It's a SJW thing to complain about that word in most cases. Let's not start drama on this though, you can just use gypsy and replace it with Romani in more formal settings :)

I'm hoping to start getting tattoos in the next few years and I always hear people say you should get smaller tattoos first in case you don't like being tattooed or you can't cope with the pain very well, but I don't like small tattoos and the design I really want first would cover the whole front of my thigh. should I try and think of some smaller/simpler designs even though I don't really like any or should I just go for it and warn the artist that I might be a wimp?

Amy Jones my advice is just to get what you want regardless of the opinions you have been getting from other people. Getting the smaller ones first doesn't mean much when you know that you'll dislike them. Just make sure that you thoroughly research the artist, and eat a good meal before you get to your appointment. Gatorade helps too. If you tell your artist that you are a newbie when it comes to tattooing they should be kind enough to help you through it.

Maybe this doesn't mean much but as a person of Gypsy descent (on my father's side) I have never had a problem with the word Gypsy and I do not consider it a slur or a derogatory term. I have been called gypsy many times before and I do not take offence to it, it is part of who I am, it is a beautiful, vibrant culture with centuries of history and I am proud to say I share in it :D

I know so many peeps who seem to think calf tattoos are like murder or something, but I found that spot to be easy and hardly painful at all, like an upper arm or something. So I think it must depend on the person. I did have one artist who was tattooing my calf remark how still I was, and I was like "I barely feel that" and she told me about all the dudes she's tatted who practically cry when getting that spot tattooed haha.

I'm really bummed. Maybe it's just me but I've realized that older and less modern shops have the nicest tattoo artists. And the more modern shops I've been to have the rudesf tattoo artists. I really heard great things about a tattoo shop about an hour from my home town and me and my friend were going to get a tattoo together. So we booked it and the place was really cool, LED lights and TV's and just a really cool atmosphere. So we're getting ready for our tattoo, signing papers and such. My friend is from Cali, and yes she flew and NO she doesn't have the virus. 😂 Anyway, I shit you not the owner starts talking to us, asked her where she's from and she told him, he starts spraying her with LYSOL AND THEN ASKED IF SHE SPRAYED HER VAGINA WITH LYSOL WHEN SHE GOT OFF THE PLANE. Now, that's my best friend, so I was disgusted and looked at this dude and just said, do you spray your penis. And I walked away 😂. But I'm really sad cause I loved our artist, but the owner was a complete tool. And I really enjoyed the shop other than him. But I don't think I'd ever go back, how can an owner be so gross and go and ruin his own business with nasty words. 🤦
