I was playing this in the background, so I had not noticed this was a Grapple Death Squad until I heard "spike growth" and "600 feet of movement" in the first combat. And I'd just watched your video about how poorly viewed this awesome combo was on your channel. Coincidence? I think not :)

Tabaxi are I think one of the best designed species/races in 5e. They're not extraordinarily powerful, but they have a strong concept and simple, well designed, and over all balanced features. The feline agility recharging when you don't move is a creative bit of design that's fully accurate to how cats move irl. I wish they did more stuff like that instead of the standard once/long rest or PB times/long rest stuff. I'm glad to see one in an optimised build.

Definitely a fan of this more cinematic style of gauntlet narration. It’s more similar to what we might experience if we were actually watching the game and I’m a big fan. Including the role play and descriptions really enhance the overall experience of the video, good job Mike!

I'm truly impressed. Having been present for the original run, which was conducted on Roll20, it's fascinating to see that all the visuals now are from FoundryVTT. This showes a meticulous recreation of the entire run in Foundry-complete with health bars, dynamic lighting, custom tokens, maps, and even the movement/height trackers that significantly enhance the viewing experience. The effort put into precisely replicating each combat turn as it unfolded must have been immense, yet it clearly paid off. The adaptation includes thoughtful touches like implementing dark vision accurately. When viewed from a player's perspective, dark environments appear in shades of gray, reflecting how dark vision operates, with color only appearing where light is actually present. This is just so cool. Considering the work involved in this recreation, especially for a Gauntlet run known for its complexity, it's evident that a deep understanding of both high-level play and the intricacies of FoundryVTT was necessary. This level of dedication not only showcases someone's skill in navigating advanced gameplay but also highlights their profound knowledge of Foundry. Perhaps, moving forward, conducting runs directly in Foundry might be beneficial. Moreover, the skill displayed in this project suggests that someone on the team could greatly contribute to the community by creating a tutorial or tips video on Foundry. The expertise and hard work behind this recreation cannot be overstated-it's a testament to both strategic gameplay and technical prowess. (Me dumdum with words aka dyslexic AF but this is what I wanted to say just a bit fancy thanks AI)

600 feet of movement without using a main action reminds me of that time someone cast haste on a phantom steed, those where good times. While I get the ruling to make engulf a restrain at the location, I would personally rule it that the character gets moved onto the same square as the engulfing thing, especially when it relates to them cubes/dungeon roomba's. Maybe the wording for this one is different.

Thank you very much for sharing this with us, it's been a blast to watch ! I imagine it takes a lot of effort to produce, but I can vouch that as a viewer, the result is so very worth the wait ! Also, as a huge Ludic fan, I'm thrilled to witness their tactical brilliance in the DM seat this time. Hope the team can make it through ! I definitely didn't expect a 13 AC Plasmoid, and the cheese grater strategy was hilarious. Also also, good to see a Glamour Bard in action ! I feel like they're somewhat overlooked in the optimization community, which is a real shame. Anyways, thanks again for this amazing content. I can't wait for part 2 ! Ive done 1 player controling 3 optimized PC characters. I do it since handling 1 PC worth of options can get stale. Handling 3 makes mistakes much more possible and self improvement strategy wise much more possible. Its similiar to how the DM can be controling multiple things. But just the player does it via having multiple optimized PC builds.

Its crazy that all 3 of them dont use wizard, druid, or paladin. The typical classes that you see come up alot in the most optimal team builds. Nice to see something different... and there isnt even a sorcoror as a pseudo wizard. Just a team entirely skipping the more optimal team classes. Which is nice to see.

@Taeerom8 ай бұрын
Honestly, for regular dungeoncrawling, Bard and Wizard is generally interchangeable. The differences are mostly in particular details, so depending on your specific party, either might be better than the other. In this party, it is quite obvious that Creation Bard is a specific choice based on it being better in this party than a wizard would be. We're a long way from AD&D, where Bards were generally useless.

Note that arcane lock could be used on the chest for more AC. With this plasmoid tech if you go an openable item you are suseptable to knock opening you, but you can use arcane lock for more AC. Also Im surprised an item interaction wasnt needed to cover then 1 inch hole for full cover. RAW dnd considers 99.9% cover 75% cover, even though its 250x more cover than 75%. Thinking 75% isnt that far from 99% is a classic case of the exponential effect of %s. Commonly misunderstood in games and elsewhere. And the dnd designers were one of the vast majority that didnt understand this. For example % discount on an item is exponential. % cooldown off an ability is exponential. Ect.
@cmccbuilds82299 ай бұрын
Show the math to get 250x from 75 to 99.9
@Dogo.R9 ай бұрын
@@cmccbuilds8229Say that full cover happens to need 100 square cm of cover to fully cover you. With 99.9% cover there is 0.1 cm missing. With 75% cover there is 25 cm missing. So 99.9% cover has a 250th the missing cover. Because 25/0.1 = 250 Using a different analysis angle may make the exponential nature more clear. To hit someone with a super thin arrow who is under 99% cover you could say would be 1/100. Because if you rolled a d100, there is a 1 in 100 chance you get above a 99. Hopefully that makes sense. So enemies would only hit 1 in 100 times. If you have 75% cover, thats a 1 in 4 chance to hit. Again because theres a 25% chance to get a 4 on a d4. So say enemys do 1000 damage per hit if they hit. With 99% cover thene enemy would average 1000 * 0.01 = 10 damage. With 75% cover the enemy would average 1000 * 0.25 = 250 damage Which means the enemy is dealing 25x as much damage on average when you are under 75% cover. Thats with 99% vs 75%. with 99.9% vs 75% it is 250x. Hopefully this is clear enough.
@cmccbuilds82299 ай бұрын
The way you’re phrasing it is off. “Even though it’s (99.9%) 250x MORE COVER than 75%”. If full cover is 100 cm, 99.9 cm is 99.9% and 75 cm is 75%. 99 cm is 33.2% more than 75 cm. So the example you posted, 99.9 provides 33.2% MORE COVER than 75. The example you provided later is about the difference in “missing cover”. That’s different than the “cover provided”. In that case, .1 missing cover is 99.6% less than 25% missing cover or 25% is 24,900% more MISSING or NEEDED cover than 0.1%. This is an artifact of having a very small percentage and finding percent increases. As you may know, in medical and scientific fields you’re taught to be very cautious when doing this. That’s one reason why there is statistical significance and clinical significance. Doubling from 1mil to 2mil matters much more than doubling from 0.1 to 0.2.
@Dogo.R9 ай бұрын
@@cmccbuilds8229 I dont know if you saw my edited answer when you were typing your response. I always want to do the full multiplication to an outcome since ive commonly seen linear things go exponential, and exponential things go linear. In reality the cover amount doesnt directly matter. What matters is your chance to get hit through your missing covering. And that scales exponentially. You need to do math that results in an actual outcome before what you say means anything. So when I say "More cover" I am refering to the benefits of cover on an outcome. As I described in my edit before you finished your reply, in that example you would take 250x less damage on average from a super thin arrow shot randomly. The same thing applies elsewhere. With % off deals each 1% more you get off, your effective money spending power grows expontentially... the closer to 100% the closer your effective money spending power grows towards infinity. With % cooldown in games the closer to 100% cooldown reduction the closer to infinite ability usages. With cover the closer to 100% cover the closer to "completely unhittable" you get.
@Dogo.R9 ай бұрын
@@cmccbuilds8229 I apologise that my innitial comments wording using "more cover" could be construed as referencing an intermetiate calculation. The fact that people ever refer to intermetiate calculations slipped my mind. I was simply refering to the calculation of the outcome of more cover... not the intermediate calculation of "% difference in cover area".

A three party band seems like a much more fair judge of capability, than the solo gauntlet. It will probably make it harder to judge who specifically brings how much value to the team, but it should make for a much more well rounded scenario, without some builds, like the zealot, being speciffically countered by INT 5 creatures understanding that they need to stop attacking to take them out. Yes I'm still annoyed the barb had such a weak showing.

Its funny because an infinite supply of ritually cast phantom steeds. Just get on 1 and have hast casted on it and its 110 * 2 * 3(3 movement actions) = 660 movement speed. The whole getting rogue, your race, and mobile feat. Then picking up and using resources on longstrider. All that is less effective then using 1 of your infinite supply of ritually cast phantom steeds + the haste that both strats use. Also you can get off your steed for another 30 movement if you wanted to. And of course in this case spike growth would be readied so it wasnt in the way.
@cmccbuilds82299 ай бұрын
They had a Pegasus. It did ZERO good. You’re completely discounting how the size of the mount can impact its effectiveness. Compare the Pegasus’ contribution to Pussycat’s
@Dogo.R9 ай бұрын
@@cmccbuilds8229 That mount is huge. So it can fit in large spaces at half speed. Phantom steed is large. So it fits in medium spaces at half speed. So if classic medium size PCs can move normally in the space, a phantom speed hasted can moved 330. Also note that any exclosed space is EXTREMELY easy to auto-win for the PCs. There are tons of ways to do it from walls, to area effects, to summons to block the pathway, to terrain manipulation, to extreme difficult terrain that requires 4 feet for every 1 foot, ect. Most optimization considerations in the most optimal builds spends the vast majority of the time trying to figure out how to deal with open spaces, not exclosed spaces. Yes enclosed spaces do have an effect, but its only half movement in an already very advantagous situation. Only if the medium PCs are squeezing does the phantom steed stop being usable. In any enclosed space id recomend using remote scouting and create a plan specific to the situation, or just play it by ear, most enclosed spaces can be dealt with in very similiar ways.
@burningwp9 ай бұрын
Are you talking about using phantom steed for dragging through spike growth? The rules with mounts and grappling is unclear. Moving the steed may count as forced movement, thereby breaking grapple. I think Treantmonk talked about this once.
