Literally just started the video, but Treasure Planet is AMAZING. A lot of people seem to think it deserves a live-action remake but that’s wrong, the ORIGINAL deserves more appreciation not a soulless version that doesn’t even have the original crew and cast.

Animated Jim is adorable and lovable and cute, the live action version would probably look like the guy who likes to hang around the back of alleyways. The one earring, scar, and his braid are perfect for the animated version but like a real life version? I’m sorry but that’s the last thing I wanna see 😂

@@Julia-is6hh we where sparred of the sequel (look up treasure planet sequel if you wanna know what it was) what we where really robbed of is the Disneyland ride, and possibly Jim’s spin-off series but we were probably spared from that too

Unpopular opinion: I struggle to enjoy Star Wars--and I blame that entirely on this movie. This movie set my standards really high, and honestly probably also influenced a lot of what I like and look for in stories. There's the world building, the twist on a classic story, how the characters interact (how relationships develop throughout the film ABSOLUTELY heals), how the characters are written in general. (And the music. Aaaahh the music)

I remember watching this movie for the first time under 2 months ago, it was so late at night and after the first 10 minutes I was blown away. While watching it again, (I’m a 15 year old girl btw) I remember looking at Jim’s character and I said to myself, “oh my gosh, he is 15”. I looked it up and I was right, the fact that Jim’s character is written so well that I could just look at him and know his age because that’s exactly what I’m going through right now shows how incredible this writing really is. This wasn’t some 40 year old guys trying to add teenager slang into a movie to make it “modern”, this is actually amazing storytelling. I’ve seen a few people criticizing the characters of this movie, especially Jim and it just makes them look so out of touch with the entire age group. What makes this movie as good as it is IS Jim and Silver. And may I just say, thank you for being an adult who can actually understand what it is like to be a teen, and not just chop everything up to, “welp they’re a teen, I guess they’re just destined to be depressed and feel like a screw up”. This made me so happy to watch, I definitely totally didn’t like and subscribe because your a cool person.

xD of the disney movies, this and Tarzan are my 2 favorites, the sort of odd balls of the movies of that era. and while they werent inline with the others, they each stood on their own as fantasic movies. its also amazing to see the fanbase after all these years still fawn over this movie

Being born in the 90s when I first saw this movie I thought Captain Amelia and solar surfing were really cool, but I was too young to understand and appreciate the things pointed out in this video essay. When I rewatched it in my mid 20s I saw it in a whole new light, like another level had been unlocked. Since then it’s become my favourite comfort movie when I’m feeling down.

one thing i never got about critics was that they wanted Jim to not age...but according to the movies description he is 15 after the prologue which makes him 3 in the very beginning. idk how they thought 15 was "too old" also anyone else surprised Jim's hover bored was never made into a real thing "like a replica"

Thank you. It really annoys me when reviews of this movie complain about Jim being an angsty teenager and/or claim that he's boring because of it, even though growing from that angsty teenager is the entire point of Jim's character arc. This movie would not have worked as well if Jim didn't have that low starting point that his relationship with Silver helped pull him up from, and the relationship between Jim and Silver wouldn't have been as engaging if they'd had him as a well-adjusted teenager or wide-eyed youth.

I was born after the turn of the century, so I never saw any of the promotion for the movie. That being said, I watched it quite a few times growing up, and to be honest, I literally only ever thought of it as a coming of age story (even if I didn’t have the words). This movie is such a classic, I never understood why no one else seemed to watch it!

Well, in the director's cut they say Jim is 5 when he is reading the book at the beginning (thus making him 17 during the movie) but in the original Prologue (which they cut) the intro was supposed to be narrated by an adult Jim, saying he was 15. So yeah... Not even the directors were that clear with Jim's age. I personally find that he looks more 17 than 15.

be aware i speak with different opinions this movie is great but it,s not what I would name fantastic at first start.. first thing i will say about treasure planet is when I first watched this movie the first thing in my mind was how ugly and boring the characters looked it,s like they won,t even trying apart from the humans second I took 2d animation for nothing so that made my opinions on this movie worse then i watched this movie finished didn't like it I also didn't like the blend of 2d animation and cgi effects that felt so out of place.. so yeah I didn't really like watching treasure planet before the world stopped producing classic 2d animation
