Treasure planet: The Underrated Masterpiece

There has been no greater film that has had an impact on my in the past few years unlike this one, not just for the fact I had to put a christmas themed border on this video, but for my own life to chart my own course. This is the praise of Treasure Planet.

Treasure Planet is not only the most underrated Disney movie that came after Atlantis: The Lost Empire. But it is also one my favorite Disney movies. Really ashamed that we have never got a sequel after 20 years of waiting. i would like to see where Jim goes next after joined and graduated from the Royal Naval Academy.

@@a.jthomas6132 At the time, Disney only made 1 sequel, and that was only because the studio was in a tight spot and that was their biggest success in years. Of course, despite not loving the 2000s, there are some in particular that I despise, ie "Home on the Range" and "Chicken Little." Remove those, and that makes space for something, possibly a sequel. But sadly, the financial returns from the first film weren't there.

This is my third favorite Disney movie and among some of my all time favorite films. I get so much out of Jim and Silver’s dynamic and find it to be one of the most compelling and memorable animated films, never mind Disney films. The way it can be so grounded and relatable but balance it with the steampunk aesthetic makes for such a wonderfully crafted movie.

Long john Silver (Treasure Planet) is the perfect Anti-Villain for Disney, and he is the one of the few rare Disney Villains that has alot of heart. Especially for those have complexity and 3rd dimential character like Judge Claude Frollo. As a grown man who grew up without a father, I can relate to Jim since he has to deal with real serious issues of an absentee parent and abandonment. living with his mother Mrs' Hawkins for the rest of his life. We seen him as a rebellious thrill seeker who, like many of us, is looking for an adventures and he gets in trouble most of the time. But over the course his story, he meets Silver who steps right in a father figure role despite being captain of his pirate crew, Silver chooses his love for the cabin boy over the treasure, and teaches Jim the valuable life lessons such as taking the helm and chart your own course. And stick to it, no matter the squalls. Disney really needs to make more father-son dynamics like this one! In addition, more good anti-villain/anti-hero like John Silver

Man, i remember watching "Treasure Planet" when i was a kid. And it was really good! Such an underrated gem! Not only do i appreciate Jim and John Silver's father-son dynamic, I also adore the intergalactic settings.

Treasure Planet means the world to me and everyone was perfectly cast. I had a major crush on Joseph Gordon Levitt. The score is tremendous and GOD, John Rzenik's music still goes *HAAARRRD!!*

I remember when Treasure Planet was released to little fanfare. I happened to be in Disneyland at the time and they had a small window display in one of the shops by the firehouse. At least that's what I remember. Many of the 20-somethings I work with tout it as one of their favorite movies so I might have to give it a go. I've never seen it!

treasure planet is my very favorite movie, i always loved the story, animation, music, and especially the mixing of both 2D and 3D animation. i constantly watched this movie in tough times, and this movie always makes me cry. i always wished that i was in the story, imagining myself as a little space pirate, drowning things out at times. there were many times that i wanted a john silver to take me on an adventure, to go find treasure, to take me away from whatever situation i was in. i really love seeing people appreciating my very favorite movie.

I watched this movie for the first time recently. And I've got to say, it's my favorite Disney movie. I was amazed at how good this movie was. I thought Disney couldn't get better than Aladdin, but I was wrong. And both that and Treasure Planet have the same directors/writers. Also, it's really interesting to hear what you said about your sister's wedding. It really shows how this film impacted people.

Like Atlantis, this is a Underrated and Unappreciated Disney Classic that is one of the Last 2D Animated Films and Deserves so much More Attention and Love than the Current Garbage we’ve eaten like Raya, Frozen 2, Toy Story 4, and Wish, 8 out of 10, this Movie has so much Layers, Heart, Soul, and Spirit with a Creative Twist,Unique Story, Beautiful Animation, and Fascinating Characters.

Hope you don't mind me reaponding to this! I think "Atlantis" had the unfortunate ciecumstance of being "not Disney enough," due to a less smooth art style and vehemently a non-musical (which I regret). I think the underperformance of some of their 2000s films have led to the current "fits the brand" mindset. Pixar, while owned by Disney, runs on different parts and storytelling styles. Disney greenlits the projects, but Pixar still had their own way of doing this. I actually enjoyed the Frozens, but I wish "Raya" had been a musical with better worldbuilding and a less controversial message concerning Namaari (Raya own her own has earned her spot as a DP, so I'm happy about that). "Wish"...well, that's been discussed to death, hasn't it? Lol.

@ Atlantis is a Great Movie to me, the Animation Aged Well and it didn’t need to be a Musical because it would be a Similar Case to Wish, I’m aware Pixar is its own Company to Disney’s, I’m simply saying that Toy Story 4 is a Faliure made by Both Companies in a Extend, Frozen could have been a Great Film Franchise but the Issue is that Disney has been milking it to Death that making Shorts did remove Room to expand it and it also robbed more Sequels like Big Hero 6, and Raya, that’s my most Hated Film close to these Movies like Chicken Little and Wish, not making it a musical wasn’t the Main Problem, it was how they managed the Concept of Trust and Untrust as Raya made it a Disgusting Way to Trust Everyone.

@@featherguardian6023 Not saying "Atlantis" needed to be a musical, just my own personal preference--and I must SEVERELY disagree about it being like "Wish." The latter film was a disaster due to corporate interference (which obviously wasn't an issue in the 2000s) and the songwriter not being informed on the music and having very little to go on. Not sure what made you compare the two. Frozen was definitely milked, which I blame on Disney not just greenlighting a sequel earlier. In their defense, that was their (not Pixar, Marvel, etc) first $1 billion movie, so they didn't know how to act. And I'm wondering what makes you say Raya and BH6 didn't get sequels as a result. And I'm not saying Raya HAD to be a musical, it's just personal preference--plus a YT from Indonesia made a video rant on Raya and how making it a musical helps the worldbuilding due to how Southeast Asian culture is ties to music, like many cultures around the world. JNH had a great soundtrack for that. I would've enjoyed the songs.

@ you mistook what I meant, I’m simply saying that if Atlantis was a Musical, in Theory it would have Boomed just like Wish, I know why Wish Failed I’m just speculating, Atlantis was just ahead of its time, both Frozen and Big Hero 6 were great successes but I believe Big Hero 6 deserves more a Sequel than Frozen, I know it has a Series and a Baymax Series but a Trilogy was right there, hell it’s literally a Marvel Comic based by Disney and I never said I wanted a sequel to Raya, Moana and Zootopia are a Exception that finally got a Sequel but Raya doesn’t work as a Movie or needs a Sequel and the Main Reason why it being a Musical wouldn’t work is because I HATE EVERY SINGLE CHARACTER IN THIS FILM, I WOULDNT TRUST ANYONE AS RAYA WAS RIGHT WHEN SISU WAS WRONG, you expect me to believe that in the same day we get to meet all of these Characters and then on the same day the Threat that has been creating Pain and Suffering is resolved in the Same Day? That’s not how freaking trust works, it it was a Series that focused on Character Development and Storytelling, Well Rounded Arcs, and Exploring the Good and Bad Parts of the Nations it could have been Big for Disney but instead of a Mature Story that challenges Us we get a Immature Mess that takes everything about Trust and Twisted it, when you think about it Raya and Wish are the Same Problem with Disney that we love the Original Concept but what we got was Garbage

I love this movie, but the Benbow Inn scene early in the movie feels very iffy now knowing the fate of Disney's ORIGINAL Jim Hawkins [Bobby Driscoll]. Though at least it was one scene and not an entire poorly-done, poorly thought out plot point in a movie cough cough -Chip N Dale Rescue Rangers- cough cough.
