Treasury Men In Action 1950. The Case of the Castings. ABC Network.

Presented here is a rare episode of Treasury Men In Action when it was a live show on ABC in 1950. Interesting production values on this live show, as there are many outdoor scenes usually not present on live shows. The outdoor scenes were filmed segments, with the rest of the scenes live on stage. In this episode a simple IRS inquiry alerts the Treasury Men to investigate a jewelry store that has lots of visitors with full bags of stuff, but they always leave empty handed. Could this be illegal activity? Watch and see! Stars Walter Greaza, Martin Balsam, Marry Patton, Irving Winter, Richard Abbott, and Alfred De La Fuente. Air date October 2, 1950. Season 1 Episode 4......... Before this upload I had 28 episodes, ALL of which are season 5, so this is a big surprise!

The first four seasons were produced "live" in New York. In 1954, Bernard J. Prockter decided to film the series for a fifth (and final) season in Hollywood. Those episodes were later syndicated as "FEDERAL MEN".

Thank you for presenting Treasury Men in Action from October 2, 1950 on ABC-TV. I'm surprised to see a young Martin Balsam in this early television production. The only other early TV appearance I saw him do was the 1955 teleplay, A Man is Ten Feet Tall, with Sidney Poitier (later remade as the movie, Edge of the City two years later). Someone on this forum said that radio was better because of using one's imagination, which is fine. But, early television productions are considered treasures today like the old radio shows. Both have very good entertainment value.

Martin Balsom was seen in this 1950 in this 1950 ABC-TV opus . I wonder where and what his Hombre future co stars Paul Newman and Richard Boone were doing at this time ?

According to the Internet Film Data Base, Paul Newman was an out-of-work actor in 1950. During the 1952-53 season, Newman had an occasional, recurring role in the NBC family sitcom, "The Aldrich Family" (which was a radio show that transitioned to television). in 1950, Richard Boone was working on the short-lived CBS TV series, "The Front Page".
