Overcapacity is not new narrative. If you ask people working in companies across the EV supply chain in China from the upstream lithium minerals to the downstream batteries, they are well aware of this problem as well. They have overestimated the global demand and expanded too aggressively in the past. If you look at the earnings of the 2 biggest lithium minerals companies in China, Ganfeng and Tianqi, their earnings for last year were a disaster because of price drops of lithium.

1:53 As Yellen was complaining about China 'Subsidizing their firms heavily, Raymond announced a $6.6B TSMC grant. US government also offered a $5,000 rebate to Tesla purchasers. If subsidies are good for the goose, why isn't it for the gander? The notion that Chinese government is heavily subsidizing EV manufacturers so they can sell them at a loss is ridiculous and makes no business sense. China can manufacture EVs at a much lower cost because of automation, lower labour costs and optimized supply chains. Whereas, American car plants are labour intensive, their Chinese counterparts use robots and AI extensively. Their operating costs are further reduced as a result of cheaper labour and vertically integrated their supply chains. Major EV companies also own battery manufacturers. Cars manufactured by Tesla in China are able to compete head to head with others in China.

"De-risking, decoupling, freindshoring....." etc. etc. Now "overcapacity". The US has an overcapacity to coin new words in its smear and propaganda campaign against China. The US has an overcapacity to stir trouble across the world and to produce hot gas. Not to speak about it's overcapacity in military bases and printing dollars. Capacity is always and only a supply-demand issue. If any "overcapacity" by a factory or industry in China, it means it's demand has gone down and it will face financial loss, bankruptcy and finally closure. How and why is this a US problem? Yellen is clearly on the wrong end of the stick.
