Thanks Peter. I'm a stained glass artist as well as a mosaic artist and have been using Rapid Resizer for 15+ years (since it was an old MSDOS program that was installed directly). It has certainly advanced over the years but still has some oddities. I use for resizing & printing and design both stained glass & mosaic patterns with it. It really does a great job. The one issue I have with mosaic designs is how difficult it is to transfer the design to your substrate. Certainly you can use the carbon paper approach but that can take quite a while to trace out patterns and can lead to issues if something isn't traced correctly. I find Fiberglass Mesh to be a great time saver for transferring patterns since you can just layout the printed copy under the mesh and build your project directly using the original pattern for guidance. This is another benefit to using mesh that I don't feel gets enough love. The mosaic process is time consuming to begin with and any steps we can take to minimize time waste is definitely to our benefit. Have others found any other ways to transfer designs to substrates accurately that is quick & easy? I've been playing with using a Cricut machine to cut the patterns out of vinyl which can then be applied directly to your substrate and you can build on top of this. It's hidden under the grout and doesn't generally cause any problems. What do you think?

Good ol MSDOS, computers and programs have come a long way since then. lol. Your glass artist experience would be very useful with mosaics. I dont know of anyone that has found a really easy way to put the design onto the substrate. Im not sure what you mean about leaving the vinyl under the grout. I owned a company for 20 years that had quite a number of large format printing machines and I could print the design out to what ever size I wanted and then use the mesh, as you suggested. One of my other machines was a large format cutter and I could print onto the vinyl if I wanted to and then cut it out on the cutter and profile shape it to the design and any other intricate parts of it, this made it easier to transfer the design. The ultimate machine is a flatbed large format printer where you print the image directly onto MDF, Wedi board, Glass or whatever substrate you wanted. It all happened in a matter of minutes. There are companies around with flat bead printers that would print your design directly onto the substrate, you cannot get any quicker than that, be it a full colour print or outlines for you to follow. Outlines would be better because you want to adhere to the substrate and not the ink. :)

Hi Peter, can I ask where you get your carbon paper? I'm having trouble finding it. Officework say they don't stock it. I'm ready to do a new project, but am now stumped. Kind regards Roz

Hi Roslyn, yes it is an issue, I haven't needed any for a while and the next time I do I will be buying it off Amazon USA or Australia. They have a few different brands and a couple of them receives great reviews. Some carbon papers out there don't work that well. :)
