Thank you 😍 thank you thank you so very much for you review on different adhesive products. I had been searching for some decent adhesive to use on my tiling projects and so after your very informative video I went out and purchased a bottle of PREP. OMG, it is absolutely the BEST adhesive when placing tiles on terracotta pots. It is quick drying so you are not there holding onto the tile for ages, and it is strong. I absolutely LOVE THIS PRODUCT. Thank you once again and you have made this woman very very happy.

I would suggest you have a look on Aves website for more information and here's a video I made on using it. I would also suggest a small test as well as there are so many substrates out there. :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3SrcqyhpM6BkLs

What can be used with mirror tiles for indoor and outdoor pieces? What do you use when a mirror is your substrate, is that considered glass on glass? Thank you for all the time and effort you spend sharing your knowledge.
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad 3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou so much and thanks for watching. If you are adhering mirror you need a neutral curing adhesive so the reflective backing isn't effected. You can use silicone but not all silcones are neutral curing so the tube needs to state that. I suppose it could be named glass on glass as thats what it is, however its also glass on mirror. :) Always read the manufactures MSDS on any product you are looking at buying so you can take the necessary safety precautions. Sue Smith You Tube channel has some great videos on adhering to mirror. :)

This was a few years ago, l would reach out to Prep directly and see if they have a retailer there. If not you could import it from Prep (quantities may apply) EBay or Merlin Mosaica here in Australia. With the Aus $ being low it’s very cost effective even with freight. Silicone has solvents which are continually given off whilst curing, this can effect your health long term. www.prep-productions.com Thanks for watching. 😊

Hi Peter, just found your channel. So much useful information! What are your thoughts on a friend’s advice for an outdoor piece (house number plaque): “Mix 4 parts water with one part Bondcrete. Then mix that with Ceramacrete cement powder, little by little, stirring until consistency of toothpaste.” I’ve only done indoor pieces using Weldbond in the past, so making an outdoor piece which will weather the elements is something I want to get right!

Thankyou so much Janelle. I would only be adding an additive to the cement based adhesive if the manufacture recommends to do so which will be on their technical data sheets. Thankyou very much. I can’t comment specifically about your job but when l am mosaicking a terracotta bird bath bowl l use the following. Laticrete Hydroban which is a waterproofing membrane. I use Laticrete cement based adhesive for the adhesive, one that’s rated for the tessera lm using. For the grout l use Litokol epoxy grout which is waterproof, smoother and doesn’t require sealing but more expensive or Laticrete Permacolour sanded grout. Everyone has their different products that they like to use. Thanks for watching. 😊

@@TreasuryRoad Thank you so very much for taking the time to reply to me. I am a senior lady artist, mainly oil paints on canvas, so I am engrossed in the art world. @TreasuryRoad 8 ай бұрын
Thankyou and my pleasure June. It can be confusing because everyone has their own way of doing mosaics and also the products that they prefer to use. Most products used in the mosaic industry haven't been designed with the mosaic industry in mind but with the tiling industry in mind. The mosaic industry has just adapted them to suit their needs, your art talents will come in handy creating mosaics so that will give you a good head start. Just bear in mind if anyone including myself gives you any information on products always have a read of the technical and safety data sheets, they are very easy to read and generally available on the manufactures website. These will tell you what a product can and cannot do and what safety precautions you need to take because people can suggest products but many are unaware of the risk in using the products that they suggest or they just aren't suitable for your particular project or the environment the mosaic is going into. Join a couple of good Facebook groups such as Mosaics Australia Wide and Mosaic Mentoring and enjoy. :)

Beginner here. Thanks for this great info. I like the idea of Dunlop Tile All as it seems it is less mess to prepare. Can you advise how you would use this in small quantities? Would you decant to a small container, then apply with a knife, while keeping said container closed? (Hope that makes sense?) Thanks again!
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad Жыл бұрын
Thankyou so much. When using Dunlop Tile All you can just take out what you need and then reseal everything back. Generally speaking, you can mix it in a small yogurt cup, use a small quantity of the liquid first and then add a small quantity of the other part using a P2 or N95 mask, then mix together. Always read the technical data sheet and safety data sheet before using, they are very easy to read and contain important and accurate info, they are generally available on the manufactures website. Thanks for watching and commenting and enjoy the mosaic journey. :)

Hi Tony, I've just found your channel... slowly going through each video to learn more. Is there one specific to mosaic on plastic? I have plastic mannequins I'd like to mosaic and put in the garden. thanks
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad 3 жыл бұрын
Thankyou Gina. I haven't made a video on plastic or mannequins because there are different types of plastic and the problem with adhering to plastics is the surface tension on many plastics. It repels adhesives, that's why many adhesives will not work with them successfully. The adhesive can be seen as working and some months later or longer the products can fall off, the same with some acrylic paints. Some people just use silicone to adhere directly to a mannequin, using silicones long term is not good for your health as they continue to give off solvents while curing. Others will rough the plastic up and there are other products in the marketplace that can prime some plastics to prep them, there are other methods as well but how good they are long term I don't know and certainly I'm not recommending any of these ideas because there are so many variables. :)

@TreasuryRoad

Hi Jen, I am not sure what you mean, if the rock is waterproof and the tessera you are using is waterproof and you are using a suitable adhesive, there's really no need to seal unless you mean the grout. Some grouts dont require sealing either. :)

Hi Peter, thank you for the tutorial about adhesives. I was going to use PREP to adhere tiles on an outdoor table. I have waterproofed the marine ply top about 5 times, back and front and side edges. Will PREP be ok to adhere the tiles or should I use a cement-based adhesive? Thank you. Trish
@TreasuryRoad
@TreasuryRoad 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Trish. Your biggest problem is the marine ply, avoid using any wood outside including marine ply for mosaics because it interacts with the environment regardless of how much prepping you do. Your mosaic will only be as good as the materials you use. I can’t speak specifically about your job however l would consider using cement sheet or Wedi board or Thermasheet. For the adhesive l would look at a cement based adhesive one that is rated for your tessera. 😊
