Older people (60+) are usually happy even if the functionality of the hand is limited after the healing process. Many of them don't even profit from physiotherapy because it's painful and they won't do the exercises because they just don't need to bend their hand more than 30° anymore. That's why they are usually happy even if the result after the therapy isn't close to the functionality before the accident. When you're younger and still need your hand for work and stuff then it's a completelly different story...

@@rosisunny9302 Last year I had a complicated fracture and had to wear a cast for 6 weeks. The joint of my wrist literally broke into 6 different parts and they had to use a metal plate and 13 screws to fix it. Back then the doctors were very careful to give me a prognosis that was too optimistic. Instead they used to tell me that my hand might have limited functionality later and that chronical pain might remain. Now - 1 year later - I'm almost back to normal. The plate and screws were removed after 6 monts, I don't have any more pain and the strength and flexibility is almost back to normal. But I'm still young (34) and after the cast was removed I went to phyio therapy at least 3 times per week for 2 months and I also exercised a lot at home. (at least 3 times per day!) That's why I made very big progress in a very short time. I wish you a fast recovery as well.

There is always the chance of infection especially when you're using hardware inside the body. This procedure is just another good example of how the medical community in the US very genially advocates the incremental benefit of one procedure over another to boost its profit margins. How could you expect anything else from a healthcare system that is driven by profit? The profit motive works wonderfully for many things, but not for healthcare. The only way to bring down costs is to disengage the profit motive from the delivery of healthcare. That wont happen anytime soon.

Broke my wrist 3 weeks ago, my doctor said that in his opinion I will need to have a surgery, investigating the subject a little made me by passing this option, my break was at the Radius bone (at the tip) , however everything is in place, nothing moved out dramatically, was wondering if it will be possible to email you an X-ray to have your opinion about the idea of surgery?? Thank you

I fractured my radius on my left wrist but since this is from 2009 I only got a cast. No surgery! Mine isn't displaced that might be why this is my first fracture at the age of 10!!

Broke my distal radius after a MTB crash in April 2012, had a plate with 9 screws inserted, and after 3 months has gone as well as could have hoped. Have nearly all (90%+) my flexibility and strength back so much so that went mountain biking again recently and was not hampered at all really but didn't push it that hard. Occasionally will feel some pain and stiffness, also haven't regained all feeling in thumb tip or central palm area. See my channel for videos of crash and plate.

How are things going? Did you recover all functionality after all these years? I am planning the same operation and my biggest concern is 100% functionality after surgery.

Nearly 3yrs ago in football i was doing diving headers the coach threw the ball abit to high, i dived straight over the crash mat and i put my hand out and i landed palmside down on the top of my ulna and i heard 2 distinct cracks at the time, i told the coach and he said it was a sprain, went to a&e, they x-rayed my scaphoid, i recently saw a physio and 3 locums all of whom say my wrist was fractured and it healed wrong because you can see it, it's weaker and it causes me pain what should i do?

How long after the fracture took place do you recommend starting with exercising the wrist, and on a level of 1-10 to what point or level of pain should one go when exercising without creating any damages?

Why are you pushing a plate and screws over K wires? It’s a far more invasive procedure

Broke my right wrist (dominant hand) last Nov.,I needed surgery to repair it. The Doc put in the titanium plate and screws in the radius bone and wire to hold the joint together. After seeing the O.R. report at physio therapy I found out I also chipped the ulner bone. My right arm is now crooked. I am about 6 months post surgery still have pain and swelling at times. Working 4 hrs/day.Because I work in the grocery industry lots of lifting,I may be out of my job sooner than later.

I had my both bones break near wrist on my right hand from falling on skiing. There was big deformity where my wrist went to right side, but it wasnt open fracture. My brother drove me to near hospital where they told me break was serious, they gave me anestesia and tried to bring it back in place. It was very painful, but succesful results considering how bad it was initially. I was put in cast and sent to my home town hospital. There they told me i will need surgery cuz my segments were not in line. I had surgery 3. February (11 days after injury) and they put external fixators and long pins going threw my arm. First day after operation was extramly painful, but it was going better and better. Now its 18 days after operation i dont have any pain. They told me they will get everything out after 6-8 weeks.

I had a FOOSH injury due to a motorcycle accident Bilateral distal radius fractures. I had fixation surgery within 72 hours. I never got casted, I received removable splints. I'm looking forward to getting back to as close to normal as possible.

+Baoussous Youssef I am not in severe pain anymore but do have pain with certain movements, have lost some function and am numb in lower palm to whole wrist area, to be fair I dd almost lose this arm when I was 11 and went through glass plate window, had 4 hour surgery to repair nerves, artery and veins, tendons, etc...funny thing is other than some numbness & a nasty scar (150 stitches ) I was ok, this break really messed me up, now have arthritis in the wrist and forearm joints since break too...lol aren't u glad you asked me how I was a year later...thank you though, you are very kind ;)

Fx on 2/19/11 surgery for a fx of the distal radius & Ulnar styloid fx. A titanium plate & screws used. 2 wks latter carpal tunnel surgery to help regain feeling in my fingers. I have complete feeling in in the little finger. I still have no feeling in 4 fingers, my palm is extremely sensitive. Is this a normal healing process? What can I expect? Do you feel a consult is required or I need more time to heal. I refused pain management and request OT.Is numbness Normal & for how long?
