Treats for a Dog? What is Poisonous to Dogs?

Many people feed great prescription or hypoallergenic diets and then ruining the diet with a gluten filled biscuit, treat, or chews. If your dog has skin, ear, stomach, seizure, or bowel issues....avoid commercial gluten filled treats! Feed a treat that has a meat your dog is OK with, and one without glutens and other grains. Avoid China Chicken Jerky!

So true! I found some vets that way overcharge than others back when I used to use them. Not all had places to do surgeries for dogs, so they send you to the bigger vet and then prices went up.

Eggs, cooked or raw, can be added to a meal or can be the meal!

I now add eggs(6), chicken liver, and hearts and gizzards (2-4 ounces) each to the recipe. I often feed raw chicken wings or thighs, sardines, or herrings some nights instead of the recipe. Meat, organ meat, eggs, and fish complement each other! I really enjoy hearing that people enjoy cooking, Everyone told me I was nuts!

If you're going to feed your dog leftover chicken/salmon which you have prepared for your own consumption chances are it is laced with harmful spices like salt and garlic, please wash the spices off before giving to your dog.

Thanks for sharing! Yes vets are expensive! I used to have lots of dogs and the very large breed pyrenees and nuefs. But now with the cost of going to the vet we decided not to have anymore dogs. We moved my mother in law into our home due to her health and she has a little dog. I was shocked at the price for a yearly check up for such a tiny dog. I realize vet doctors need to make a living but wonder about all the humane society dogs that need homes and if prices were cheaper more might get adopted. It's a sad situation 😥

Turns out that a dog has to eat more than a couple cloves a day to have problems. Many people use 1/4-1/2 clove a couple times weekly for flea control Baked or barbecued bones can be hard or brittle I feed raw chicken wings and necks. They are safe for dogs! Many clients have done it for years. I slow cook the chicken with veggies for 12-14 hours and feed it bones and all! Check my website dogdishdietcom

That is a good mix. You can also consider sweet potatoes, peas, green beans, eggs, and fish. I use 50-70% meat(protein and fat) and 30-50% carbs

Milk bones and other biscuits are dry, high carb, gluten filled, junk food. If your dog has no skin, ear, bowel, seizure issues then you can keep feeding the ingredients(glutens, chemicals) that I feel contributes to 10-20% of my medical cases. I am not a fan of biscuits...I wouldn't feed them. Antlers last and are good for dogs that chew. My dogs just look at them and say "really!" Carrots are good for dogs, but some dogs don't digest them well.

Moldy walnuts can cause tremors/seizures and macadamia nuts may cause hind limb numbness. I feed my dogs peanuts, walnuts, and almonds. Each dog seems to have their own preferences

Great video, I just made the switch to homemade dinners for my toy fox terrier. He was having too many digestive problems with dry food. I'm very fortunate that my dog loves vegetables. I have done a lot of reading and I don't know if peppers and cucumbers are bad for him. He sure loves the change of food. He sure looks happier, even his smell has change. I'm feeding him turkey, beef, chicken, salmon, eggs along with a variety of veggies. Happy dog happy owner :)

the "baby" carrots are soaked in a bleach solution. Much better to get some regular nice organic carrots. That's what we give ours. They eat what we do with the exceptions you stated and im incredibly picky.. Your vids are great! Thanks!

Better to stay on the light side, but you can add chicken thighs, eggs, sardines, or herring 4-5 times per week. Or you can feed 3 cups 24 oz twice daily 90 pounds x 20cals per pound is 1800 calories/ 30 cal per oz is 60 oz or 6-7 cups daily.Rottweilers can have allergy issues. Beware of wheat and other grains

Some pets can't eat beef. It makes them sick. You can also try sardines raw or cooked. You can add sardines or 10% pork to the recipe for variety. That's what I write about in Feed Your Pet to Avoid the Vet

Yogurt is a great source of protein, calcium, and natural "friendly bacteria" Even with my non-processed diet, I have to have a bit of jam, pastry, or even a Dorito, Cheeto( or five) every now and then.A little sugar on occasion is OK for our pets!

Grapes and raisins have been known to cause kidney failure, so don't feed them to dogs. Fruit is a really good source of antioxidants and complex carbs. Many dogs love the taste of fruit and veggies. Never Ever feed your dog chicken bones, because they splinter inside of thier stomach, and cause Bleeding, the Best bone to feed your dog is a Knuckle bone, you can get them from a Butcher for free, because they throw them away, bring it home and boil it, let it cool and then give it to them, this was told to me by a Vet,

Just drop in boiling water for 30 seconds to kill surface bacteria and you are good to go. Do not cook to the point of cooking the bones!!

He is right there is still a chance of the bone getting caught in throat or still splinter and harm your dog it is possible I've experienced this and I have a american bully with powerful jaws they try to eat a piece that's way to big I know this is uncommon and but it is possible

A treat for a cat would be cooked meat or a biscuit without wheat flour in it, Cats are carnivores that need lots of protein like raw and cooked meat

Feed him some cooked or raw chicken, tuna, or sardines mixed in with the food or alone. You can slow cook chicken, chicken livers, eggs (1/2 pound chicken, 3 eggs, 2 oz liver, 32 oz cooked rice) and rice and feed that alone There is some discussion that high quality protein may even help kidney function. Most vets think we have to feed low protein food to help the kidneys. At that age, I just think they should be happy with what time they have left.

Good job! Dried meat lacks moisture and some fat. Dried meat lacks 70 % water and 20% fat or 90%,of it's wet and natural ingredients, so dried would be 100% more meat/protein by weight. 100% of 10 grams is 10 grams. 10+10 is 20 grams. Good question.

I started cooking for my dogs about 18 months ago and it has been a long road of supplements and mixtures, etc ... The crock pot option that you have introduced to the pet world is a lot easier than the way I was doing it with a roaster, eggs shells, supplments, etc - and not only do I spend a lot less time prepping, but 3 of my friends have also now bought your book and are cooking for their dogs - and a year ago they told me I was nuts :)

I like green beans, peas, carrots, squash, sweet potato, then rice. I have had a few dogs allergic to rice in the practice and it is higher in calories and most dogs don't need the weight. That is partly a myth.Raw chicken wings and thighs are safe to feed. Baked and bbq steak bones or chicken bones can be brittle and break with sharp edges. I also slow cook bones which when crumbly are safe to feed with the food. Like chicken soup for dogs. Great joint nutrtion

When I was a kid, my dog ate a WHOLE chocolate cake. (that dog could have died from me being ticked off)..results? Nothing...He survived..dark poo....LOL...LOL...I'm not advocating feeding your dog chocolate but I don't think anyone really knows what can harm pets. Back in the day you could give a dog about anything, just like we as kids. Now nobody can eat or drink anything without digestion problems or being told its not good for you.

Sounds like you are trying your best. Some dogs are very allergic! Fish and potato is often very good for dogs with allergies, along with olive oil and fish oil caps.

I have an Australian Cattle Dog that is allergic to wheat, corn, and even rice! Its hard to find good treats for her, and she isn't a carrot or green bean lover like my other little dog is, She loves apples and chicken though. I also give her veggies as treats and natural treats with no bad meat meal, only fresh meat from running animals, no chemicals and not tested on animals. I cut it into sml bites and ran it under water a bit to wash off any gravy etc. I had like one cup of this stuff. So i took some and fed it to my 3 sml pups mixed in with their original dry food. I froze the rest. To later on feed them some again. I DIDNT WANT to feed it to them for too long. Is that ok? Thks DOC. YOU ROCK

My Shar-Pei loves carrots its funny the first time I gave him a baby carrot he barked at it and jumped around it like he was hunting pray pushed it around my apartment with his nose for at least 15 minutes then he ate it.
