Watch closely, you can see the tree fall on the right side of the screen. You might want to back it up and play it a few times to really get a good look at the tree as it falls. This is Q001 CSX Number One Train.......Filmed on 5/2/17 in Dunkirk NY.

Stop time depends on many things including total weight of the train and speed. This train is a lighter train with semi truck trailers so it can stop in a shorter distance

I'll say it again. That was one of the best slow down/stops I've ever seen, without dumping into emergency. 10 tons, hmm? That would certainly take a lot of effort. I'm not saying I could pick it up and throw it back in the woods like I was Superman or something like that, but I would've done as much as I can to get the thing out of the way. And if not, I'd gladly wait for a railroad crane to come along and pick it up.

You know what? I take back every word I said about this. I recently was at a railroad crossing at a barely used train track, and tried to move a tree that was blocking the tracks out of the way just in case a train did try to use them. It didn't even budge, and I had to call CSX and report it.

Nice catch! My great uncle in his huge 4-8-4 freight locomotive would have continued through the tree. Was the track crew cutting the tree down and it fell the wrong direction? Please mount the camcorder on a tripod to make the video steady. Always show a train entering a grade crossing. If there had been a collision, you would have missed it. How long was the train blocking the grade crossing? Did they separate and clear the crossing or back to clear it?

Hi thanks for watching and your support of my channel. The train was stopped for about an hour to 1 1/2 hours. Ill have a video of it starting out again after the tree was cleared

Thank you. If the crew did not back the train and then separate it and pull forward unblocking the crossing, the railroad should be fined. Or were there other crossings not too far away?Tree fell the wrong direction or just happened to fall?
@WideWorldofTrains

Not every place has a law against blocking crossings. My former hometown in OH does, but NS is stringing 'em so long these days that in alot of cases whatcha gonna do about it, the train stretches over two zip codes if not two counties ...
@robertgift
@robertgift 7 жыл бұрын
If they can separate the train and unblock the grade crossing, but do not, you fine the railroad if it is a well used crossing. The bigger the impact on the community, the bigger the fine. Some railroad employees are lazy and do not care. You make them care with huge fines.

This happened to me as a conductor. It was at night, raining cats and dogs, wind blowing left to right and we came around a corner doing 50. We didn't see the tree until 2 seconds before we hit it. It covered the whole track and was as tall as we were. We plowed thru it only to hit another locus tree. It didn't throw us into an emergency stop so we continued. We pulled over a few miles later for a passing train so I checked and we had the top of the tree across the front of the train.

I'm guessing those vehicles were there because they might have been surveying the tree as it was at a dangerous angle to see what action (and when) needed to be taken. The tree saved them the job. Train seemed to stop quite quickly. What speed was it going?
