Hello Vora, this one is up in the top 5 herbaceous peonies. As long as the colour works with the others, I would plant it with the others, you are lucky to have that one.....

I love it when you tell the name of the peony so I can add it to my list of must-haves. I was transplanting Emperor's Bright Treasure Peony Tree today, and the woody stem broke. Is there a way I can attach it back?
@johnnyAGardening4 жыл бұрын
Hello Kim, unfortunately there is no successful way of reattaching a broken stem that we have seen. We actually broke the stem of a tree peony a few years ago. We cleaned up the break with a pair of secateurs and it has not put on lots of new growth.

@@johnnyAGardening Thanks for your reply. I have removed the broken stem. Do you think the roots will now produce new growth of the herbaceous plant in spring? I am hoping so that not all is lost.

Hey there, what is the name of the pure white peony with yellow stamen that's in the thumbnail? I think I've just purchased this from the nursery but it didn't have any tags so I'm trying to find info on it!

Will peonies grow well in a country that has a tropical climate (31 - 35 degrees celsius) all year long?
@johnnyAGardening3 жыл бұрын
Short answer is NO. They need a cold winter and low humidity to grow and flower well.

Hi can you please advise whether tree peonies would be suitable in Wagga zone 9b ? I appreciate your time : )
@johnnyAGardening5 жыл бұрын
I am not overly familiar with the soil and climate in Wagga, It might get a little hot in summer, so no guarantees, however - If you have the right soil, with some lime in it, and adequate water they may be OK. You may need a little afternoon shade in the heat of summer. They do need a winter chill to flower properly. I would suggest that you try one, best to get it into the ground very soon so the roots settle in over winter.

I noticed in Japan they put umbrellas and shade is that so they don’t scorch?. I live in Hawaii can I grow them here ?.
@johnnyAGardening5 жыл бұрын
Peonies need a cold winter dormancy, so in Hawaii that is not going to work..... Sorry about that

@@johnnyAGardening I grow tree, itoh and herbaceous peonies here in florida. I keep mine in pots and put them in the fridge in November and bring them out in late January or early February. Mine seem to doing quite well. I do have a few in the ground but they struggle with the warm 80 degree winter days. I've put ice on them and that seems to help.

I am from Vic, I am just starting to grow peonies. I just bought 4 bare root crowns of Sarah Bernhardt and 1 ITOH from Garden Express online. I wonder if they are from your farm? I put them in pots. Can you share some tips about growing peonies in pots please!?

All I know is that peony came from China, not Japan.
@johnnyAGardening2 жыл бұрын
You may find with a deeper look that peonies are native to Asia, Europe and North America (Paeonia brownii). It is in Japan and China that they were first cultivated and breeding and or hybridisation first took place. In China and Japan different emphasis was put on various attributes including flower colour and fragrance.
