Nice video. I'd just like to mention on the 3 cut method that the top cut, or second cut, should step back towards the tree. This prevents your saw from potentially getting pinched and pulled from your hand. Thank you for the terminology info👍

Hi Edward. You are correct if cutting larger branches, however when cutting small branches with a handsaw (as demonstrated) 2nd cut is usually out a little from the under cut.
@evsjr9202 жыл бұрын
@@totaratree99 No, you're wrong. No matter the size, you always step back to the tree. Cutting where you are saying always for potential saw pinch because the piece is moving. As the cut is made the branch starts to bend and now your saw is cutting the moving branch which is exactly where and when a pinch will occur. By stepping back to the tree, the pinch is eliminated because the remaining "stub" doesn't move.

@@evsjr920 Mate you sound pretty convinced and I'm not going to argue but suggest you read a text book or two. Suggest Shigo or Harris. Look up the ISA pruning guidelines. Better to catch your handsaw than tear the bark on a small branch in my experience. All the best :)

When are maple trees supposed to be pruned? I keep seeing mid summer to reduce the sap flow, but I think my tree is stressed/has a fungus and those go dormant in the winter. It's a 30 plus gallon Shantung maple, planted November 19th 2022.

When you cut the suckers, the tree has noticeable rot/damage on its main lead very close to the ground. Would you recommend cutting the tree down to the point or removing it entirely, especially since it's such a young oak?

At 2:18, the trunk of the tree looks like it has a bad wound to me...is that a problem?
@totaratree992 жыл бұрын
I agree Jack. I think the suckers were growing as a result of the stress caused by that wound.
