Hey mate, welcome back ! You definitely lucked out on your USMC tent. And you earned/deserve it for all the arse busting you do for us ! Ones like yours in cherry condition are super scarce here in the States. My choice is going to depend on what is available at the time I go to order ... This (USMC Diamond gear), or the Snugpak Cave (basically the same, just larger, with a 4th pole and an extra foot or so on each side. I upgraded my "pack"/bug-out system from the Alice LC-2 Harness and pistol belt w/2 butt-packs, to the Mil-Tec "South African" combat vest (Made in GERMANY) which distributes the weight evenly across my front and back. The hydration pouch carrier on the back of the vest carries my two US 1 qt canteens nested in their cups/stove. And an Austrian 12"x15" haversack to carry my 10'x10' tarp tent, ridgeline, paracord, stakes, XL Jungle blanket and two ponchos (XL "Ranger Roll). IF I had to, the vest came with extra straps and points to attach the "sleep system" & a folded E tool . Like my Alice set up, I can access everything without having to take it off. It was designed to carry, in relative comfort, numerous heavy clips of ammo and other hand deployed ordnance. I only had to go through three rucksacks and the alice harness before I finally got right !

If it’s one of of those Tri fold US ETools it’s worse than useless
@baronedipiemonte39902 жыл бұрын
@@zaynevanday142 well, I'd be lying if I said I was an E tool expert, but most of the ones I've seen, U.S. and NATO are tri folders. Glock makes/made a single fold and telescoping handle. Other than those. Our guy here did some serious ass digging using a Chinese copy of an E tool. After his last dig he ditched it !

Thanks Barone! I’ve gotta say, it’s great to be back! Good choices you’ve made there my friend, either the USMC tent or Snugpak Cave, I know Snugpak make some awesome pieces of kit, I’ve really got to try and get my hands on some. you definitely want a shelter with durability and with room to move in! That 10 x 10 tarp, ideal! It’s all trial and error but that sounds like a great system with the combat vest having everything accessible with comfort and the haversack featuring the shelter kit, you’ve got the right idea my friend! Thanks for sharing your set up, it’s always appreciated! Hope you’re doing well sir!

I've had one for 5 years now,,,, had it out in 30 plus winds,,,, if you guy it out and stake it its very strong,,, It has some moisture issues ,, not a backpacking tent at 10 1\2 lbs. depending on what stakes you use is very heavy, but quality comes with a cost,, I had problems also with the grommets coming out,, It will hold a snow load to,,, 2 people would be crowded unless you had to ,,,, Great vid
@goodredman Жыл бұрын
Thanks for pointing out the grommet issues. I’m looking to receive one this weekend in grade 2 condition. Purchased it for $100 online. I do have repair kit with extra grommets if I need to do that, but if they are fine on the tent I’ll just reinforce knowing that it’s a weak spot. Not planning to use for backpacking myself but rather for short distant hike maybe campground car camp situation with lady friend. Stay well cheers🎉

@sandymilne224 Жыл бұрын
I love mine. Exactly same tent in mint condition. With the 10 1/2 lb weight, it’s not really a backpacking tent because the weight is in the fly. I’ve been meaning to get a sil nylon tarp made up exactly the same dimensions as the factory one to reduce the weight. Don’t really need the blackout feature which is where the weight is. I call this tent a 1-man-plus-gear tent. My bugout bag is massive and super heavy with all My I’m never coming home gear in it. (110 Litres) just not practical, but I throw all into my pickup truck under my canopy and head out driving out of town. I also have a 30 litre bag for day excursions away from my base camp. Just love my Diamond brand tent though!!

Would definitely throw in a few tarp clamps to that repair kit considering the tent has had grommets fail, how are you getting on with the klymit, and what is the pillow?
@ManDogWild2 жыл бұрын
That is a great idea, I will be doing that! I’m getting on great with the Klymit (touch wood!) I’ve always had it on top of the folding mat, I’m actually out tonight trialling it without the folding mat and seeing what the result is to deliver a review soon but so far with insulation beneath it, no issues. The pillow is a RedCamp pillow, it’s not bad, I’ve just got a Trekology pillow for the trip. Trouble is, with an inflatable mat and pillow, it only takes one puncture so fingers crossed! Thanks again for the suggestion John 👍

@@ManDogWild i have a exped pillow pump that i use when in a bivvy bag, you can use it as a pillow and it is a pump for expeds, its not big, but ideal for bivvy bags, plus even if it got punctured somehow , its still full of foam inside, so you get some support.
