Does anyone know where I could buy such a tree trunk?

Did the trees need any treatment after removing the bark? If so; what did you use and what was the process?

Since this is an indoor treehouse, I didn't use any finish on them and just ensured that I was down to bare wood on all of the trees. That way I didn't have any of the surface mold to worry about.

Maybe I missed it: did you finish the “natural” wood at all? If so, what with? I’m out to do a reading loft and want to keep natural but still give it some protection. Or maybe the dark color you used has a natural variant?

The only finish is on the 1x4s which was a basic stain/poly mix. The rest is unfinished because i figured the natural hand oils from use would provide a natural finish. It has held up well

I just added some links to the tools I use in my shop. Additionally a few hand tools like a draw knife amzn.to/2SdwjwT and a Japanese pull saw amzn.to/2GqiBEc also help on a project like this! Good luck!

What did you use to secure it to the floor?
@EveningWoodworker
@EveningWoodworker 3 жыл бұрын
Gravity! It is secured to the studs in the wall though all the way around at the height of the platform.

If you could have kept the bark on, what could you do to prevent chips continuously falling off?
@EveningWoodworker
@EveningWoodworker 5 жыл бұрын
You could try putting a polyurethane or epoxy over it to secure it but depending on the type of wood, the wood will often dry at a different rate than the bark which is why over time bark usually will become loose on at least part of the tree.

This is amazing, but as an engineer the code does not permit handrails or safety ropes to have climable components as toddlers and kids will use them as foot holds that will make tumbling over the side an issue ... especially with one as young as yours. Trying not to be a buzzkill because what you built looks incredible, just that it would fail code for safety reasons. See this companies extract of building codes, you can access your local building codes from public libraries: wagnercompanies.com/o-canada/
