My husband and I watched this video about five times, each time laughing harder. Our treeing-walker loves rides, too. Even if we are going out for a 10 minute trip, we have to invite him and his sister (golden retriever mix) or he will howl nonstop, and then ignore us when we get home. He can hold quite the grudge. Lol.

My stepdad had a dog like this. He gave her up to me after keeping her in a small kennel in the suburbs for 10+ years... she whined and barked and bayed at everything, constantly, 24/7. Once she had 5 acres to roam, she only made noise if there was something to chase. First and only time I saw a red tail fox out here was because of her. Even though I hated her at times when I was younger, growing up to that noise, I still miss the free version of her. Her last few years were the good ones.

I wish Jax would just lay down 😂 He can't sit still in the car. He's gotta sniff everything and see everyone we pass. He rubbernecks everyone on foot. He does better on long car rides and just lays down looking out the window. We once went on a 8 week trip and he got the idea about a week in. We just stayed in his favorite places, the park, so most of the excitement had settled down.

He looks a lot like the one that took up at my home a few months ago, I tried to find his owners, we advertised and shares in several posts for a few weeks, no takers. So I took him down & got his shots and fixed up a penned area for him, my daughter named him “Howdy” so I guess he’s ours now... Only problem is I don’t want him to run off, and he doesn’t listen or respond to us too well, he looks like he might be 7-8 years old, He’s gentle but doesn’t seem to been trained to do any basic commands like sit or lay, or stay, etc ... and. Definitely doesn’t know come! Other issues is he has to mark ( piss) on everything, he peed on my other dogs, and my oldest daughter was furious as I guess he decided to hike his leg on her. I watch him if he walks around me and warn him what’s gonna happen if he pees on me!!😂 maybe he does understand that warning ⚠️. I’ve had dogs that mark their territory, but he makes everything non stop!- In addition he will back up to a tree or a bush and take a crap 💩 up against the tree, That’s a behavior, that I’ve never seen another dog exhibit before... If I could minimize his need to piss on everything it would be great, Hard to let him out of his pen, have to worry about him running off and he has to leak on everything that’s sitting still. Have any other Tree Walking Coonhound owners had similar problems or issues with yours?
@freebird8892 жыл бұрын
I know this is like super late, but I don't get notifications for comments for some reason. But yes the answer is yes. Jax will pee on everything in sight even if nothing is coming out. He too backs up to stuff to poop. He will poop in potted plants if we're not careful. He has also pooped in bushes and there were turds hanging high in the bushes. He's a pain in the ass, but once they train you and you begin to obey their commands life gets easier 🤣

@@freebird889 Thanks for the reply. Yes.. our Howdy when let out of his pen will go to brick mailbox, The fence post at corner of yard, Sometimes across the street to the neighbors fence post- And back up to it & drop his 💩, Don’t quite understand how he holds in all day to release on demand, but he manages!😂 He’s a sweet dog, but definitely lacks any refinement, Wish he played a little better with our other dogs, he’s not aggressive but wants to hump or slobber all over our smaller dogs & never quite learned how to play or interact with other dogs. He was older when he wandered up on my property & we’ve had him 3-4 years now… so don’t thinks he’s gonna change much.

@freebird8892 жыл бұрын
They are insane for the first 3-5 years. Very lovable, confident, and demanding. Training is all good/treat based. Gotta keep them active. Lots of walks or runs at the park. They will totally run off and follow their nose for days. Make sure you're aware of any lost/found Facebook groups in your area and neighboring areas. Shelters numbers all that. Jax is a runner. Eventually though because of where we lived he stayed about a mile from home and no further. He always wanted to fight wild pigs and coyotes and often came home beat up and bloody. Sometimes with what ever the coyotes were eating.

My dad hunted blue ticks for years, so when I saw a walker in a high kill shelter, I adopted her. How did you get your dog to recall to you? No matter what I try, my walker won’t recall with any consistency. She is a family dog, never hunted that I know of. It’s just weird to me, because dads coonies were always almost around him off leash, and would only stray away when he sent them out to hunt.
@audreyw.5 жыл бұрын
My female rescue TWC will recall but if she gets on a scent and starts working she can't listen, it's like she's deaf. Leash only unless she's in a safe place to run free. We are saving for a GPS collar!

@@audreyw. yeah, I have heard that with these dogs when they aren't trained to hunt, the best thing to do is stay still and not chase them. If you chase them they think you are coming with them, and will range farther out.
@freebird8895 жыл бұрын
He doesn't come back when he's on a scene near home, but if we are in unfamiliar territory then he stays close with constant instruction. He goes so night chasing things and then he comes home every day. I was nervous at first when he took off, but sure enough he came home. I guess he just loves me that much. I keep him on leash when we are in town or at a park because he wants to smell everything and chase other dogs. Once he was off leash on a trail near the Colorado River and he saw some cows across the river in a pasture. Jax ran down the embankment and started swimming across the Colorado and he doesn't even like to swim. I had to strip down real quick and hop in after him because he can't swim very well and I knew if he got across it would have been super hard to get him back.
