The changes on their face when their parents say I love you back is amazing. You can tell both sides are not used to having each other say it, as it's not that common in most asian cultures. For the most part, love is shown through their actions instead of verbally, so seeing them react like this is precious.

I'm middle eastern and hyper-masculine ideals are very common in our culture too. If I said it to my father, he probably would respond the same way. It's sad but we have to understand these men come from a different generation and should still love them even if they reject our expressions of love

@@questioneverything8572on a deeper level for a lot of men when they say this I think they also mean the bond between men and their sons doesn’t need to spoken into words. Like “I don’t need to say I love you for you to know I do. You are my son”

I am from Azerbaijan. they did this experiment in my country too and almost all the parents first reaction was “Are you ok?”. Some cultures like to show affection and love instead of saying it. We all have different love languages, but it is beautiful to sometimes say it out loud.

You can tell how badly the girl in the red shirt at the end really wanted her dad to express his love back to her… she immediately brightened up again when he finally said it back. Although I know my mom knows it, I still say “I love you” to her every day; when she reciprocates those feelings, my heart gets warm and it gives me the strength I need to make it through the day. I couldn’t imagine not being able to hear my mom say those words to me when I need it the most.

I grew up in a very fortunate household. Since I have been able to talk, my mother and I have said "I love you" to each other at least twice a day if it's physically possible. I'm about to turn 34, and the only times we don't say it is if one of our phones are not working, and when I was in Afghanistan and couldn't get a phone. Never miss a day to tell your loved ones you love them. You genuinely don't know when it's going to be the last time, and it is the WORST feeling losing somebody and knowing that you didn't show them affection the last time you interacted. It will haunt you forever.

I tell everybody that was on my deployment to Afghanistan that I love them anytime I see them, I tell all of my fraternity brothers that I love them anytime I see them, and I tell my family members I love them anytime I see them. I've already had people from each group die unexpectedly over the years, so I will never NOT say "I love you" when our paths cross.

Oh😞 why do you feel like that way? Parents are parents, they gave birth to you, wanted and accepted you and your life, they raised you, and even if sometimes (or maybe you felt a lot of times) they were angry or strict with you, that was just because they loved you and worried about you and wanted you the best. Believe me, I 'm a parent, too and I need to hear that I am loved by my children because that's a feedback that I didn't ruined everything and my kids could sense my love behind my attitude. I know it's easy for me to tell you to tell your parents you love them, yet I would say give it a try, it's worth it!😊❤️🙏🤞🤞

Man from the UK, we don't say I love you to parents either. I became a practicing christian after more than a year of deciding, introducing Christianity into my life slowly at a time, well I began with forgiveness and ended the fued between my father and I for two years during which time we didn't speak. Then I followed up with I love you to both my parents and it was an experience, the girl at the end, I can feel how the girl feels the moment she hears I love you from a parent who seldom, if ever, says it. When all you want is their approval, finding out you already have it without all the pressure you've put on yourself is heart breaking, but liberating at the same time. And not only christianity, but my now fiance, girlfriend at the time, she helped me even start to say I love you. Now I say it multiple times a day. I've always been cold but since meeting my girlfriend I've been able to form bonds with people around me.

This makes me really appreciate calls with my dad. I don’t think I grew up in a culture where we don’t express “I love you” but I like showing it in my actions and gestures while everyone around me is used to expressing their words. But due to a lot of personal experiences, I grew up having a difficult time expressing that. Now my dad always says I love you on the phone when we end our calls (he works far away) and I say the same, thank God I’m a more expressive person now when it comes to how I feel about those around me ❤

Showing love and saying out loud its both good. Some cultures show love by caring for others. I think only saying i love you its meaningless if used too much it will feel like its not sincere. Because words are words. And actions of love are more solid. But saying i love you from time to time will have that connecting strong impact❤ say it to your loved onese not too little not too much ❤

I say it multiple times a day to my parents. I have a degree in science and psychology and expressing love is healthy for the mind and body. It releases positive chemicals in the brain, lowers blood pressure and supports overall wellness. Furthermore, both my parents had brushes with death. I'm just so grateful they're still here. I will express my love daily with words, actions and physical contact such as hugs and kisses. ❤️

To anyone thinking it is really sad and pathetic for Chinese people to never say "I love you" to their family, I have to say that it's not the same thing as never saying "I love you" in English, where it would be considered very cold and unusual to not verbally express your emotions. In Chinese culture (and also many other East Asian cultures), it is more common to express love with gifts and acts of service rather than directly expressing it in speech; in a way you could think of Chinese culture not putting a lot of emphasis or value on simple words. Words are easy to say and exchange, but love is much deeper and more meaningful, so more meaningful forms of expression that might require more effort and time are preferred. Like one of the fathers said, "男人之间不需要这么讲" (men don't have to say this to each other), as Chinese men are even less expressive of their emotions, both through words and just in general, since they rather tend to work behind the scenes and do things for their loved ones without publicly exhibiting it. It is true that often times Chinese youth appear to have a less connected and loving relationship with their parents and vice-versa both because of this lack of emotional expression and because of the extreme pressure and attitudes towards making them do well in education and work. I do think that saying "I love you" every now and then should be a common thing in Chinese culture and society; but overall, it isn't as bad as it might seem from a Western viewpoint.

This is exactly what I was thinking. While to me, it may seem odd it's just their cultural norm juat as it mine to tell my kids I love you all the time to the point or annoyance😅 (even though I know they secretly love it) On the flip side, it's just a cultural norm not to hear it or express it to my parents (late 80s from MX) but I know that they do ❤ My dad is 83 and I can still, Thank God, go to him if I need something fixed or have my car looked at and he loves to mow the lawn at my house. 🎶 A father's love, the only way he knows how by Bucky Covington is the perfect song when it comes to my dad❤

That last girl looks like she didn't get the answer she wanted, it seems that the family relationship there must be very difficult and with the climate boring and her uncomfortable

Not really it’s just a Asian thing cause Asian family not really used to say I love you to each other if they say it to each other one day our first thought would be are they dying or not feeling well? That’s the very first thought from the Asian thinking plus you can heard from the background maybe her father was watching tv so he doesn’t really heard what his daughter was saying so he just reply casually

I can't say this to my parents even if my life depended on it. I can express it many ways but can't say these exact words, I feel it is a kind of disrespect to say this to parents
