Of course, in Indonesia "Older Brother/Sister" is atributed for everyone who look like a midle school or super student person, or the people in 15-20 interval age.

In the Philippines as well, calling those who are older than us "Older brother/sister" and adults older than us "Aunt/Uncle" or "Sir/Mam" (It's like "Ma'am" but "Mam" for short) 😁

Tapi kalau yg manggil "kakak" berpenampilan om om tentu sangat aneh. Kita akan merasa sangat tua
@dedehadiana8823 Жыл бұрын

@mellym3ow Жыл бұрын
If you're around the same age, jiejie and ge is still OK. But he's clearly meant to be way older lol so xiao (little) jiejie/gege is better. We like to be addressed younger if that makes sense lol. Jie and ge is also different to Jiejie and gege, the former sounding older... Its a nuanced language haha. But if you're a foreigner, nobody will blame you.

The one thing I get to know from this prank is never call a stranger 姐姐 or 哥哥 in China cause it's not casual bro or sis 😅😂
@yogurt1888 Жыл бұрын
Just to clarify, in China, when people call for strangers or friends the Chinese honorific for big/little - sister/brother is casually used for addressing young adults, teens, and children, while anyone in their 30s-50s may be called 叔叔/阿姨 (sir/ma'am). In this case, the older-looking man that would be referred to as 叔叔 (sir) is addressing people who look younger than him as big sister or brother. The people answering his questions would be expecting to have the honorifics of little sister/brother or lady/sir, and as you may guess, people are pretty sensitive about age 😂🤗

Can someone explain to me why its a big deal in china to be called older sister or older brother
@mellym3ow Жыл бұрын
In Chinese culture there is an emphasis on youth. Unlike western cultures and many others, we actually like being called younger. Like I was born in south Africa and the culture here they have like a casual thing of calling women "aunty" and I just haate it so much 😂 Also, I'm in my late 20s and am unmarried so I still preferred to be referred to as a girl and not a woman haha. The correct thing to have referred to them in this situation is little sister or little brother. I know in western cultures it seems patronizing but for us it's actually respectful. We tend to be born with baby faces and we embrace that haha.

@@mithos789 lol I never said anyone liked being old, they do like being mature though. Like try referring to a 27yr old a American woman as a "girl". But I literally like being referred to as a girl and not a woman in my culture as a 27yr old.
