Another incredibly valuable review guys! I would also like to add that Treks overall customer support is absolutely outstanding and second to none

Enjoy all your reviews. Thanks for all you do! If I can make a suggestion: please do your hellhole hill tests with a power-meter pedal holding standardized watts so the test is actually objective. 30-40 watts of extra pedal power may be unnoticeable, but can make a significant difference to the outcome of the test.

I was gifted this bike from a friend. It's very solid, and have taken it offroad somewhat and even through some light mountainbiking, and it holds up through it. The phone holder did break pretty quickly for me as well. I'm curious if the 7s is better with the front fork but has a smaller battery. It's great for climbing hills, as I can drop it down to second or third gear, and still keep it in tour mode and make it up hills. My girlfriend has a single speed belt drive bike, and she is forced to push her battery entirely, and wastes a lot more power than I do going up hills. My paint got scratched easily as I have a red glosd candy paint and it has gotten kind of beat up and scratched. It is my first e bike but I am happy because I can gun down and hill and the heft of the bike and balance makes me feel safe and confident doing so. If you keep it lubed up it will stay a smooth ride. I went out in a rainstorm recently and I didnt have lube with me and I was afraid that I had broken the bike from the sound the gears were making on the chain. Fresh lub resolved this issue. Also, the brakes are stellar, and if you pump it or stand up on the pedals to get some speed the think takes off like a cybertruck. I also ride it with a single ortieleb pannier and it doesnt throw off my balance at all. I am planning on going on a 3 month rv trip and puting the bikes on the back of the rv (with many locks) and using it as a way to go on adventures without bringing a car. I really only put it on turbo mode when I am going on insane hills, feel like flying as fast as possible, or when I turn back home knowing that my distance is shorter than the longest range estimate and I am tired. The other day I was riding and an old knee injury started to bear its nasty head. I was about 10 miles away and and flipped around and put it on turbo and road lightly and got home without feeling crippled or stranded. I even used my right leg for more power strokes and eased off on my left knee and there really wasn't any issue. I'd recommend getting a decent 3rd party phone mount. I gaven't really used the cobi app but I'm excited to do so. I did update the bike firmware through the cobi app recently through bluetooth, which was really neat.

Overall, I'd say the bike is very well done. The part that stands out to me with the app, is controlling it from the bike buttons without having to let go of the handlebars. I'm glad it climbs better than other Trek offerings, as I'm in the habit of not being behind them when approaching hills because they struggle so much. It's odd that they would neglect an obvious item like a brake light. It is normal for them, but still causes problems when riding with friends or on group rides. At $3,449.99, there's no excuse for the oversight.

This is a very interesting review. I own a Trek 8s, Prodigy V2 chain version, and a Vado 4. I ride roughly 8000 miles a year between the bikes, the Prodidgy V2 being the newest to my stable. According to your testing, the Prodigy with the Brose motor had the fastest times, but I can tell you from my personal experience, the Trek 8s is faster than the other two bikes, and the Vado 4 a close second. I ride in tour mode mostly on the 8s, and routinely average 50 miles per charge, and close to 100 miles in ECO.

Are you talking faster up hills or faster acceleration on flats in your experience?
@yehumikael8 ай бұрын
@@ElectricBikeReport I am speaking to faster in general overall. I ride a lot. I track all of my rides along bike trails that are paved, but include hills. I log rides in 30, 40, 50, and 60 mile increments. I only have 250 plus miles on the Prodigy, but already, based on Garmin's numbers, it is slower on 30 mile rides, than the other two bikes (15.8 mph in mixed modes). I was shocked to see this, based on the testing I saw on your reports. 30 mile avg. speed for the Vado 4 is 17.1 mph, riding in Sport mode 240%. I get the same avg. on the Trek, but on that bike, the support is set to 140%. When I use Sport and Turbo on the Trek, the increased speed and push is noticeable over the Vado. Yet, the Vado 4 is deceptively fast. The Trek 8s is a muscle car from the 60's. The Vado 4 is a Sports car with great gearing. I will say that the Prodigy V2 in Boost, is stronger than the Turbo on the Vado 4...(70nm vs 90nm). Hope that helps.

The App stands out. I do wonder how significantly it drains the phone battery though. Another question I have: you state that the range extender gives an 80% capacity boost , does that % count for the weight of the extra battery? If not, what does it equate to in real world added range?

You can connect your phone to the bike hub with an included USB cable to keep your phone charged while riding.

Looks incredibly uncomfortable with zero suspension. With an electric motor, there is no good reason not to have full suspension. At $3500, you can see why trek is having problems. A commuter bike without a rack is an oxymoron.
@chaxologist20248 ай бұрын
Completely agree! Aventon or Hovsco e-bikes are far superior for their values with rear hub motors 2-3x more powerful and options to attach suspension seatposts on top of their existing front suspensions at only $2000! Trek at this point is just a rip-off. Only good thing is their non-electric mountain bikes like the Marlin.

The Allant+ 7s includes a suspension fork. I could feel the bumps on the 8s but the tires helped to absorb some of the impact.
@beaveronabike7 ай бұрын
@@ElectricBikeReport You can kinda call it that. Travel is miserable & damping is minimal, but lock it out and you miss it. That's one of the big misses on the 8 and 9 for me - lack of any suspension and that useless rack.
@beaveronabike7 ай бұрын
@@chaxologist2024 Maybe time will prove me wrong, but I don't think these newer discount brands are building bikes that will stand up to years of daily use and high mileage. They're also all swole in a goofy way. The Allant is still very much a quality bicycle at heart and doesn't feel like an oversized new category.
@chaxologist20247 ай бұрын
@@beaveronabike The Allant is still too overpriced for the value it brings but take a look at new powerhouse e-bikes with actual IP67 rating such as the Velotric Discover 2. These new e-bikes are still less than half the price of the Allant yet still pack much more power and are just as sleek and streamlined in design without the bulkiness of the ones I mentioned!
@brianbassett43798 ай бұрын
*_Trek_*_ always bringing up the rear._ Nothing but more expensive examples of the same old bad ebike building. A $1 billion company is literally being ridden into a ditch. As far as the Allant +8S is concerned... pitifully under-powered Bosch mid-drive, over-priced proprietary battery, heavy proprietary unsuspended frame, and average (at best) components for $3500.00. Actually $4500.00 but since they aren't selling the price has been dropped a thousand bucks. Bravo Trek, assembling parts into bikes no one wants to ride.

As someone who works at a trek dealer in the service department I can agree that trek is nothing special and is often overpriced for what you get. however the price was not dropped due to a lack of sales. The allant+ will be getting replaced soon with a new generation.
