awesome review. Another good thing about trek bikes is they look really cool. The color schemes are very cool. I am also looking at specialized stump jumpers, but Specialized feels the need to use goofy graphics and ugly colors. Trek offers this bike in the red and gray you have, which looks amazing. They have an orange/yellow and gray, which also looks amazing. And they have a black, and unlike many other bike manufacturers, they don't put black logos on a black bike, Trek uses a nice chrome looking logo. The murdered out look it old. I think if I get a bike, this bike would fit the bill very well. Too bad they are not still made in Waterloo WI which is only an hour drive from where I live.

Thank you! I also really like how Treks look nowadays. Even today (a year after the bike was shipped) Fuel Ex still turns heads on the trails and most of my friends wanted to test it out. Perfect bike for everything I ride and can warmly recommend it to others as well.

Awesome video and great trails man! Wise words and nice review, not just the same technical bla bla like the rest of them do. I bought this bike 6 months ago, sold my Trek Full Stache 8 (a real monster truck) which i actually loved too but was too sluggish for the way i like to ride nowadays. I live in The Netherlands which is known to be quite a flat country but in the area where i live we have some nice hills and new trails, i must say this bike is perfect.. some people think its overkill to ride a fully like this overhere but just love the comfort aswell. I'm not a "Strava racer" but just love the rough riding.. enjoying the outdoors and push myself every now and then. Being pretty tall (1.94) i sometimes struggle with back problems it is ideal for the rocky and rooty bumps. Go save the money and go for it, you'll love it !

Thank you for a good feedback! Yeah, I think that Fuel EX will probably be the next bike I will buy. I does everything very well and copes well with all the terrain we have here in Finland (no high mountains).

I think most of the future development of mountain bikes will focus on 29ers, so it probably makes sense to move that way on your bike.

Yeah, thats very true. Being 170 cm high, I was debating weather 29 inch wheels are too big for my style of riding, but today I would not go smaller any more.

Amazing review! Really enjoyed it and watched it all through in one take as I am just enjoying my new 2020 Fuel EX 8 GX in black-purple scheme andhave been riding it almost everyday and some days twice per day for the last 10 days since I got the bike.

Purchased a 2021 Fuel EX 9.8 XT that has a Shimano drive train instead of SRAM. Loving this bike, traded up from a 2019 Trek Fuel 9.7 and the 9.8 frame is much stiffer and has better shocks with Fox 36 on front and a Fox through shaft rear shock. Rides great!!

Brilliant video! Thanks for the objective detail and not wasting our time on the spec that we can look up like you said. What is your Strava setup? I'd love to have the effortless data feedback that you have. I'm very lucky to work for a company that allows me to get 60% off Trek bikes so I'm quite set on getting the 2021 version. Thanks again this is by far the best review of this bike I have found.

Thank you for a good feedback! It's great to be able to provide some value to other mountain bikers :) In order to get the realtime feedback from Strava on your Garmin devices you will have to pay for the Strava membership. It is quite easy to setup ones you have the membership. Yeah, in case your home trails are similar to mine, the Fuel Ex choice is really a no brainer. You will not regret it!

Hi Ed, how your rear shock is set up?That is to say how many spacers and what sag. I did see how you set the dial.
@MTBreitti
@MTBreitti Жыл бұрын
Hi, sorry for the late reply. Actually, as this is a demo bike, I did not open the shock. So I do not know how many spacers are inside at the moment - it is stock setup. I usually run around 30% sag and the rebound is set based on the conditions. In slippery conditions I put it a bit slower, and in fast and dry - faster (as the speed is faster as well). I can’t say how many clicks exactly, as I go with the feel of it, not with clicks. Hopefully this helps )

Good review! and good point to be honest to yourself when you chose the bike. I also looked at the remedy with 27,5 wheels, but everyone told me to buy a Fuel EX. My old bike is a 26 inch fuel EX 7, 2008 that I love but a bit short travel and wheelbase for the really rough stuff if you go faster, but its a compromise and I think it was just right for trail riding in Sweden, Hellas (Your homespot looks identical to Hellas!!!, yes a bit technical sometimes, kzbin.info/www/bejne/imiWf3hql9WoeLM). So now I will get a new Fuel EX with 29er. Will it be a totally different bike compared to my 2008 version you think?
@MTBreitti
@MTBreitti 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! For sure you will notice the difference. You will be faster on it and everything will seem smoother. More technical parts of the trails will feel smoother. It will not be as playful as 26 though, you will get some stability instead. Make sure that you will ride it at least few hundred km before making a final opinion. The transition from 26 to 29 will take some time to be comfortable for sure.
@Stefan-Foil
@Stefan-Foil 3 жыл бұрын
@@MTBreitti Thanks for your reply, yes that is what I hoped for. Maybe for the really technical stuff the old 26er would be better but as you said lets be honest, 90% of the rides are not so technical but just plowing over roots and stones and going fast. Also a really good tip to learn to ride it before judging it. Thanks again!!
@MTBreitti
@MTBreitti 3 жыл бұрын
@@Stefan-Foil Sure! 29er is actually better for technical stuff as well, you will just not be able to play with the bike the same way you did with 26er (e.g. jumping of the routes and trowing bike around). It is of course possible, but harder. I don't think you will regret getting a Fuel Ex 29er )

I'm seriously looking at getting this bike but I can't get the realization out of my mind that I would be dropping $5500 on a bike that has the same name down the side as my neighbor's 6 year old kid.

@@MTBreitti Thanks, I’m 6’1” (186cm) tall with 35" (~89-90 cm) inseam and I had big problem to choose the correct frame size L or XL. Finally I decided to buy XL version of Trek FuelEX 9.7 (2020). In stores they adviced to me that L will be better for me, but I feel better and more comfortable on XL. I tested L frame but I felt very cramped on it and it was too short for me.
