I’m 6’ and have wondered some of the same things. I rock a canyon spectral full 29er and absolutely love it! I came from a full 27.5 and I can’t say I have noticed a ton of difference in maneuverability like a lot of people talk about, so far I only see positives from the switch. I need to try a purpose built mullet bike on a long ride to see

With how good new 29ers are I totally agree. I came into the review looking for a few specifics like cornering and jumping but was surprised to find the most noticeable change was when just cruising.

Great video mate… question for you on the mullet if you don’t mind? I’m 5ft 8 and have a cannondale habit! Toying with a mullet concept, got some steep tech and would love the extra room off the back, but also love long all mountain pedals and thinking will the 27.5 on the back affect( travelling speed over long days in the saddle) thanks in advance ✌️

I really like the mixed wheels for steep stuff and just the general added playfulness. For long rides the MX Santa Cruz 5010 has been great as was the Trek. I have had some bad experience with mulleting bikes that aren't designed around it. Mostly not great climbers and the pedals hitting.

Thanks for the review. Did you ever ride it with the 160 up front and keep the 29 on the back?

I did, it was a good time. I mostly noticed the slightly higher front end help around this area. I tend to like my bars a bit high.

Have you talked with anyone on the Small 29er in Mullet form? I'm 5'4" but short torso always finding current reaches to be too long. I'm on the fence for a dedicated Size Small 27.5 or Size Small 29er with Mullet setup. The geometry charts tells a lot comparing Size Small Mullet to the dedicated 27.5 or dedicated 29er. The Mullet Small reach is considerably shorter then either the dedicated wheel sizes which I think will be the deciding factor. Thanks for the in depth reviews

I have, one of my friends was on the small full 29 for a while. I convinced her to try the mullet setup and they absolutely love it. They mentioned similar benefits for cornering and descending but also said it really helped on technical climbing. It lowered their center of gravity helped with stability on the slower tech climbs.

@@NICADV know anyone with the small or xs dedicated 27.5/27.5. that's my current dilemma small in mullet or small dedicated 27.5/27.5 but with 160mm up front

@@ashwinamanna2465 I only know riders in small with the mullet and full 29. I haven't spoken with anyone about the dual 27.5.

Do you think mullet makes the bike look cooler and more badass? As you know look good, feel good, safety third.

Do you think it was worth it to mullet. I have the same bike. I already made my bike a 160. I find it playfull enough already (im 5,9 on a m/L)but I would like to slacken it since on steep stuff it gets kinda sketch. I do buzz the rear tire here and there on those steep sections. But i dont know if it would stop if i put a slacker headset in. I use the bike from anything to the occasional xc ride to pretty agro enduro. Would it be worth it to mullet it or just slacken the headset for me. Or both? I work at a bikeshop so price isn't a concern for me. But nobody I have talked to have ridden the bike mulleted.

Based on your height and wanting it more comfortable on steep stuff, I would definitely say give the mullet a try. I don’t know if it’ll completely fix the tire buzz but the increase in stack and help with body position will probably do more than just slacking it out. Living in CO and WA I would probably ride it keep it 29 for CO and maybe increase the fork but for WA the mullet is the way to go.
