Finally a good review on this bike

I bought the same model with the purpose of going around town but to also tackle the trails in weekends. Mine came with mechanical disk brakes they work fine but get dirty quite often and skreech loudly. The fork doesn´t absorb shit, its good for city rides but to properly engage the trails I had to buy upgrades and the only cheap ones possible where to change my stem to a super short one with 20 degrees rise and to change my front tyre. I placed a beefy Mountain King 2.4 from Continental and that alone inmediately rised my attack angle, increased my grip and brought more cushion to my arms and wrists. Also putted rhinodillos on both tyres and that made them bomb proof so far. Only with these changes I could enjoy flickering the bike. Considering all this extras I think a better option would have been to save some more money and buy the Roscoe model

Yes I have worked with mechanical disc and they are not fun. I am absolutely loving my hydraulics, don’t know why yours did not come with them like mine. If they are the same model and year. I’m sorry to hear about your fork. I am pretty happy with mine, it’s no plush air fork but the coil does work very well. I do lots of rock gardens and it seems to soak it up really well. I to will soon be changing my stem to a short one soon as well as the tires. I did some math before buying the 5 and for the price. The 4’s cheaper price did not cut it with the mechanical disc and for $100 more the 6 only bumped you from 7 to 8 speed. (Witch I use that $100 I saved and got a 10 speed on my 5) The marlin 7 was worth it to have the airshock but I did not have the money for it so I went with the 5. Thank you for your review I am sure others will find it helpful :)

About the brakes I think that´s because mine is a model from late 2017. Fortunately Trek maintained the same geometry on their 2018 models so its just a matter of upping up the parts. Of course, for a bike tech nerdie like myself and although costly on the long run i think it is going to be fun to choose my upgrades.

Oh by the way, the gears shift amazingly, Trek sure does know how to make a mt bike.

Nice bike! Would there be a size for 5”?
@woodlandninjas47736 жыл бұрын
Trek’s sizing chart recommends a person 4’10” -5’0 get the 13.5” size and a person 5’0-5’3” get the 15.5” size. I highly recommend you go to a bike shop where you can ride each size before purchasing.

Whoever buying a 2018 Trek Marlin (from 5 to 7, I believe), I'd advise you replace that piece of shit handle bar grips ! I'll guarantee you, it will make your hands and palms sore ! Also, change that other piece of shit part, the pedals !

I will diffidently agree!! the bike feels so much better with different grips and pedals.
