Yes, these are cross country bicycles. They do not do well on technical terrain especially in wet conditions. I ride a 2019 Marlin 7 which has a 3x9 groupset. I use it primarily for gravel rides on more even terrain but have attempted singletrack and find that I still have to take things very slowly. I've had to replace the chain once already.

I agree! But that's fine, I've realised that this bike belongs on gravel roads. Does your marlin 7 has a coil or air shock?

Hey, if you have known the price of the bike and the cost of the upgrades would you still buy it again or with that money pourchase a "better" one and wich bike with those upgrades would you choose. Greetins from México and great trails.

Hey Gustavo, with all that in mind, I would’ve gotten the Trek Marlin 7 at least (single drive train, better fork, derailleur...) or maybe the new Canyon Stoic is also a sub 1000€ fun hardtail! Trek roscoe is also cool but a bit more expensive. All these were sold out at the moment that I bought the Marlin 6 however! Hope this helps, thanks for watching/commenting!

@@TheRoyPeters Hey There Roy, I would like to get into mountain biking and I have Marlin 6 on my list for a few months, however, I like the Canyon Stoic (after 5 min of googling though :D ) and what model you would go, I think Stoic 2 seems to be competitor for Marlin 6, right? Thanks for your possible answer.

@@peetafunkadelic just had a look at the stoic 2 and it’s definitely worth the money! I’m liking the fact that it has 140mm in front and a deore Shimano group. It has a pretty slack head tube angle of 65° so definitely more trail-all mountain oriented than the marlin! Keep in mind however with canyon that you’ll probably have to service the mtb yourself or send the (in case of any broken or faulty parts) the parts of mtb to them in Germany. Hope this helps!
