Another favorite Matty Johnson quote to go with "pumpin' ain't easy" from the early days..."you'd be surprised how much that one and a half inch makes a difference". Surprised that didn't get a "that's what she said" too. Funny!

Another thing you might not realize Matty is you're comparing 27.5+ to 29.. NOT 27.5 to 29". The over all diameter of the Plus tires are almost the same as a 29er. That is the reason 27.5+ bike usually can also switch to 29er wheels without issue. SO as many have already mentioned, the biggest difference is HT vs FS. :) Now if you can use use the Roscoe and run standard 27.5 and find a friend with some 29er wheels, that would make a good comparison. The Marlin is more XC.I expect it wont jump the same based on the set up vs the Roscoe.

As far as 27.5 vs 29s, the big diference is that you can preload the Polygon suspension, and that is gonna make you jump into the air and clear jumps you can't with the Roscoe. You need to have a responsibe suspension. I know those are small jumps, but you can have fun preloading the full suspension to lunch yourself into the air.

Yea I agree, I didn’t even really take the rear suspension into account until after the video. I will definitely do this again with the Marlin

If it's kicking you forward a bit on the jumps. Try turning up the rebound damping a bit

I put 29 Kovee comps rims and Maxxis Rekon tires on my 2021 Roscoe 8 that had the 27.5 +. People say they're close to the same diameter but I not only feel faster but way higher up. Only went w/ 2.25 tires to start. Might go to 2.4 if I don't buy the new 2023 roscoe 9.

Have to compare hardtail to hardtail, full suspension to full suspension.

Also if you get a chance, you should test ride a 2022 trek top fuel, new frame design makes it more of a trail bike

Here's an idea Matty. Try mulleting your Roscoe with a 29' up front. Be an interesting video.
@StuffnThings422 жыл бұрын
I agree with your assessment of the different bikes. The larger tires and the full squish are so forgiving for landings. But I feel like the hard tail has more control at the takeoff. Tradeoffs...

I have a Giant stance full suspension. I would never go back to hard tail but that Roscoe looks like it handles those trails so smooth.

Nice video 👍 I’m thinking on get a new bike my options are the 2022 Roscue 6 or the polygon D6 , so what is your advice? Thank you
@davidleemann73952 жыл бұрын
I agree with what everyone else is saying. The suspension loading and geometry will make a pretty big difference Vs. a hardtail. I could see the 29'er being a smoother ride, especially on that style course because that's what the 29 is all about, rolling. 🤣. I'm older, so my last bike was 26" so I'm still smitten with the 27.5"+
@MattyActive2 жыл бұрын
Yea I agree too, I wasn’t really accounting for the rear suspension lol. I will take the marlin out next time and compare hardtails
@davidblackman31272 жыл бұрын
The 27.5 plus tires have a much larger diameter than a traditional 27.5 tire, so I'd say you aren't actually talking about what most people will have on their 27.5 bikes.
@kwaktak2 жыл бұрын
Could the rear suspension be part of the reason why it's easier to get in the air with the Polygon? How much longer is the wheel base as well? TBH I'm kind of curious if the Marlin 6 would behave differently. Suspension has got to play a factor - and the Marlin has the least substantial fork.
@MattyActive2 жыл бұрын
Yea I didn’t think about the suspension until after the fact. I will definitely do this with the marlin too and see if there’s a big difference

@@MattyActive definitely try the Marlin, but before you do any upgrades. Just put a new tube in that flat tire.

Thinking to buy secondhand Polygon siskiu d6 2018 vs. GT avalanche expert 2014 vs. Giant fathom 29 2 2017. Which one would be the best choice if its conditions and prices are same. Please help me any advice and suggestions? Thanks!
@MattyActive2 жыл бұрын
I would go with the giant fathom if you want a hardtail but if you ride a lot of rocky terrain I’d go with the polygon D6

It wasn’t really an equal comparison. You were on a hard tail 27.5, and a full sus 29
@Skkunkman9 ай бұрын
Opinions are relative, here's mine, take it for what it's worth. I dont think this is a very good comparison. You claim this is a comparison of 27.5 vs 29. While that is descriptive of the tires on the two bikes used, you are not comparing tire size. You are comparing a hardtail with wide tires vs a Full suspension bike with skinny tires. Are the front forks the same? Are they set up with the same amount of air pressure? For this test is the rear shock locked out? Are the comparison bikes even remotely the same weight? For a true test, there only has to be one variable. If you wanted to do a true test of tire size, you should start with a bike that takes 27.5+, then run your test again with a swapped in set of 29er wheels on the same bike. All that being said, I think you do a good job describing how you feel and how the bikes behave differently.
