Prodigy is the real Star Trek that we were sorely lacking for a number of years. It really worked too because the kids were treated like adults and Wesley had a nicely fleshed-out part unlike in Picard season 1.
@M3PH115 ай бұрын
aaaaaand that kind of theme "kids being treated like adults" is why most of the star trek community thinks it's a kids show. I watched the first 2 episodes of season one and stopped coz it's a kids show and i'm...... well...... very old. much to old for a kids show.

I think that we're attracted to this kind of relationships (Platonic/romantic tension that is slow to burn and cross certain boundaries) because in today's showbiz (and real life so much influenced by what we watch) a romantic relationship = sex. It seams like ending up in bed is a pinnacle of a romance. But it is not. It's very important and bonding but the ideal is friendship. Being there for each other in terrible and wonderful times. With time, sexual tention goes away or dimishes but friendship remains. There is something pure about it. And when such a relationship evolves into something more, it's a safe and stable zone. Friendship is the highest form of love according to ancient Greeks and Janeway and Chakotay love each other, I'm sure of it! And the latest Prodigy development maybe made them finally realise that they're ready to take another step. Now, I theorise that Janaway was more eager to retire early because she would stop being Chakotay's superior 😂 Oh, well. It's never easy for Starfleet!

Those writers have a lot to be proud about. I find it hard to believe that one of the writers on this season, Keith Sweet II, is the youngest Star Trek writer up until this point, and somehow this show feels more mature than Discovery and Picard seasons 1-2 ever did. Boy, I would love to interview him!

"She's female but it's not the defining trait of her character." There goes working on Star Wars then. This is the complete opposite approach that Kathleen Kennedy does. But it really works. Voyager was watchable despite the plot holes because the characters were genuinely good.

I was dubious at first, but I think Prodigy is actually the best Trek we've had since Voyager. I absolutely loved it and I'm very happy it's found a home and support with Netflix. Paramount can keep the rest, not interested anyway. 😅

@@daenerystargaryen6302dunno about that. I love both shows and they have very different themes and messaging. Prodigy is more of a traditional trek show than lower decks which primarily lands because of all the fan service and call backs. I think I prefer lower decks but it’s close. The shows are very different but they are together the best trek of the modern era

Agree - at this point it feels like audience-baiting. JC in Prod is Schrödinger's cat- they both are and are not together romantically depending on who is interpreting the show. This is a strength for maintaining ‘will they won’t they’ and shipper attention… the same shippers who invested money to fly a plane around Netflix HQ with a banner asking them to save Prod when Paramount cancelled the show.

Prodigy is not Star Trek in any way. It's just another Star Wars like scifi fantasy bullshit for little kiddies of age 8 or below which the Star Trek brand really did not deserve. Just a put shame of brand ruining. That the writer is still human and not a KI makes it even worse. Wenn I saw this stupid characters and plot I thought this was surely created by some KI. An intelligent scifi writer would never write so much bullshit in every episode. But seems there are no qualified scifi writers anymore. Meanwhile I even think the last chance to get a good Star Trek script is to ask the KI.
@M3PH115 ай бұрын
titling your video with some obscure sexual Fanfiction reference to Janeway and Chakotay is really not a good way to get the standing star trek audience to watch your video. I've been watching star trek for nearly 45 years and i had no idea till i googled it and tbh really wish you hadn't made me. But maybe that is where the channel is going. Maybe old timers like me that just want to watch a cool sci fi space show are not welcome here any more. Maybe this channel is for the hyper sexualised, gen z, activist (as disney calls it) lgbtq crowd

J/C was a going concern from the beginning of Voyager. Many J/Cers, like me, are in our 50s. You don't have to like romance but a lot of us feel that it's a part of the human experience and deserves to not be shoved into a dark corner.
@ViroVV5 ай бұрын
Absolutely hated it. It was the worst part of S02. It detracted focus from the plot and to a very big extent, runs counter to the nature of the characters that had been established. Quite frankly, Chakotay had a type and she DEFINITELY wasnt it. Which that was OK because you dont have to romantically avail yourself to the people in your immediate vicinity. Having strong platonic bonds strengthens their depiction. This and the Dal/Gwynn pairing are distractions from the plot and override much of the emotional weight of scenes because of an extra implication that dictates motivation. Its like scrubbing out nuance and writing LOVE in sharpie. Seriously, that 5 minutes would be infinitely better served to the actual plot.
