Enjoyed the park review. I used to live in the upper Peninsula of Michigan and can’t wait to go back and stop by this lovely campsite thanks so much for sharing.

Great! If you can't nab a campsite on the water, there's a small cemetery right next to the state park, with open fence access from the park, that is a nice spot to see the bridge, too.

Oh my God... I knew you looked familiar. I walked the bridge with you guys a couple of times. That is why it felt like watching friends the whole time I have been following you.

Small world, indeed! We've walked the Mackinac Bridge several times now, and Jessi even ran it once. Thanks for watching and for letting us know about the connection! -Ari

I love your videos! My wife and I are going full time this spring and we are going to make our way up the MI western shore line and then spend about a month in the UP, mosquitoes permitting. Not sure where we are going after that. Maybe over to Glasher NP. Thanks so much for all the info you provide and maybe we will see you on the road.

Thank you for watching and commenting! Your trip in Michigan sounds like a blast. And we really enjoyed Glacier National Park when we visited, so it seems you have some awesome times ahead. Safe travels to you!

Nice video! Been binging on your State Park series. You guys do an excellent job of cutting right to the meat in your reviews. This past autumn I tented 2 nights at Straits on one of the water's edge sites. The views are iconic, but.....my sleep was disturbed each night by bridge traffic, especially the semis with their jake brakes slowing for the toll booths. Would have taken a LOT of wave noise to drown it out, in my opinion.

Thanks for the review of our reviews -- we're glad you're enjoying them! I could see where weather conditions could make a big difference on bridge traffic noise, as would time of the week and year for traffic variances. Thanks for adding your perspective, that's interesting to hear from someone who was able to snag what's considered a prime site. -Ari

Forgot to tell people it’s $30 per person to get on the ferry to the island

Yes, there is a charge for the Mackinac Island ferry, and it seems to keep going up. But the review was about Straits State Park, and you can visit that without taking the ferry. Still, you bring up a good point for people to know. Thanks for watching and adding your comment!

What do you do since the sites don't have water?
@Trekers4 жыл бұрын
There is potable water available at the front of the park near the dump station (as with all Michigan State parks). We just make sure our tanks are full before we head in to camp.

Haha as far as you can go without committing to the U. P. LOL. That resonates.

Are there any first-come-first-served sites?
@Trekers5 жыл бұрын
We didn't see anything about that while at the park. Based on my research sources, there are a few sites in each loop that are not reservable online or via the call center. But they appear to be tricky spots for various reasons, so I bet they make you call the park HQ or be there in person to know exactly what you're getting. For example, some talk about no camping pad and a steep slope or a lot of trees. So, it's likely everything except the "special" sites are reservable.
