Thoresby & Clipstone Colliery - The remains in 2020

I was on the pocket line during the miners strike, I now have Alzheimer’s and-cannot remember if we went to this colliery, but a lovely video which brought back memories thank you.

I am going to sound very predictable but once again a brilliant video. For some reason it made me quite sad , I am very glad Clipstone has been saved as 20 years from now a future generation will at least know what a pit looked like. Its hard to believe the sites I first saw 40 years ago and now all gone.

I grew up in Clipstone. Around 10 years ago it was super easy to get into the building. I’ve explored the whole place. Even climbed to the top of them once. It’s amazing what you find in there. Spanners the size of your head. Unfortunately people stole anything of value and trashed everything else. Luckily, I had a conscience at that age and was respectful. The same can’t be said for the other kids.

Thanks fella, so much talk of heritage these days you’d have thought they’d have done something with the remaining headstocks at Clipstone seeings as the are so iconic and are the full stop at the end of an industry that got us to where we are today👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I grew up in Mansfield in the 80's and I could see the Clipstone headstocks from my bedroom window, what memories!

Evening Ant, once again great video. I discovered Clipstone about 8 years ago on 28dayslater. So good you have given us an update of things. I did not realise I found myself on the site of the former Rufford colliery a few years ago. I used to do motocross and there was a track there. Only noticed all the groundwork, weighbridge etc was still there made me realise what it was. "Clippy" not to far away from that site either. Thank you.

Nice one Ant' that bridge with the refuges is a gem of a find , i have walked in over 45 years a LOT of disused railways and have never seen them in a bridge !!

After a very busy weekend, it was lovely to sit down and immerse myself in this video. I am really impressed with Nottinghamshire's policy of making country parks out of this disused land, and the fact that they also use the old railways to good effect by converting them to cycle/footpaths. The Clipstone stacks are incredibly impressive they must have been a real sight to see when fully operational. Keep up the good work mate.

Left school in 1973 and worked 20years in the pits. The industry was doomed and there’s no place for pits in the modern world but Mines were part British history never to be re visited, that doesn’t mean they should be forgotten. Social history plays a big part in our time, and should be remembered. Our brave lads won the coal that drove the economy, the power stations and steel production that made Britain great.

Well i loved that how iconic those colliery wheels look i think there fantastic ...over here in Lancashire we only have one remaining pit wheel its near leigh alongside the bridgewater canal its called astley green and theres a working museum there we visited it ...Cheers Another Great Video Ant .....Regards ...Frank & Lee....

The bridge refuges are probably required because of the long buttresses and retaining walls combined with the curvature of the track on approach limits visibility and the time available to move to a position of safety.

great video and lovely drone footage music went well with it , i think why that bridge had refuge holes in it was there is not enough line of sight for any body say working on that section by the bridge (as it looks to be on a sharp curve (my thought's), anyway great video

Really good video, thoroughly enjoyed it. Really wish they wouldn't build houses etc on these sites. Such hypocrisy as government etc talk about carbon footprint and environment. Leave these sites for nature and as a testament to men who mined them.

Hello again Anthony, Just found your lastest video on KZbin and as I say to you all the time, it was a brilliant video thanks for posting it. It's nice to know that your able to get up close to the Clipstone Headstocks, I'll have to try and get myself there some time to have a closer look and get some photos. I'm surprised that the warning speakers didn't come on and tell you that the police were on there way lol 😂 apparently so I've been told, there is a voice that comes over on the speakers and tells people to get off away from the area if you go too close to the fence? Unless it doesn't work anymore? Anyway just wanted to say what brilliant photo footage you did the the drone and it's a shame it's suffered vandalism, but sadly people can't leave anything alone these days, I hope they find some use for it soon before it falls down, it's in a bad state now sadly. Yes once again a video worth waiting for, thanks Ant, hope to see you soon. On another note, I must say that hand statue at vicars Country Park was a bit creepy lol 😂 looked like a monster coming up from the ground lol 😂 do you know what it's supposed to be all about by any chance? However I was never Right up to the fence i wonder if the drone set it off? There are numerous paths onto the field. I imagine the warnings are there to ward off potential people actually attempting to get in. The hand I can't remember sadly I'll look into it

Hiya again Anthony, Thanks for the reply back, I'm glad you took my idea seriously about going to see the headstocks at Clipstone, I'm glad I was of help to you. On another note, do you remember me telling you about a boxset on Britain's lost Branch Lines dvds, well if your still interested, I've seen the same set in a shopping centre called Crystal Peaks, it's a lovely place and has a indoor market with lots of different stalls there, anyway one of the stalls sells dvds and yesterday morning I saw the same set on the shelf for £12.00p. As you know, or I've told you on a previous message on here, I live in Eckington where you went to look at Seldom Seen Engine House, well Crystal Peaks is about a 10 or 15 minutes drive from Eckington and is a nice little place to wonder around and like ourselves we do our shopping there. Anyway sorry for rambling on so much lol 😂 anytime the both of you maybe in again, pop in to the shopping centre and have a look, you never know it may still be on the shelf, plus if your in the area again sometime, let me know and you both can pop in to our house for a cuppa okay. Grade 2 listed - if we owned it we'd be told to replace the windows and give it a lick of paint. I don't know what the neighbourhood thinks but if done up what a magnificent edifice to our once proud mining industry it would be. 800 houses sitting on mine? Rather you than me!!! 😨😨

Why of all meaning build houses and warehouses on once was a Great coal mine as it's the same in South Yorkshire as you would never know if your house is built on top of the shaft, Why can't they just do something more interesting to rememeber what was a reviving industery before we started to shut the pits because of cheaper imports as they might has well take and clear are memories of what it was like working down a deep coal mine and watching saying , see ya later Dad when going on night shifts, Specially just leeve more things up and alone so the next generation will know what it was like working down a coal mine as most kids of today have never ever seen a working deep coal mine or even will never see what a piece of caol will look like. They have too are industery away from us, But not are memories , specially in the 1984-85 Miners strike as it might have been a tough time for all, But as long as we all got together and met up in the holidays and had a laugh and joke, as now life will never be the same again, Specially when he blame everything on coal on climate change as that is completely bull sh..

I've been using a DJI Spark. It's easy to use and the picture is good but only does 2K. Battery life is struggling too I maybe get 6 or 7 minutes out of it now. I'm looking at replacing it with the Mavic Mini. Battery life is 20 minutes plus, it's a little smaller to carry around and also a high-resolution picture at 2.7k

I think all pit heads should of stayed up in Mark of respect of all pit man that worked and lost there life's in the mines such a dam sad loss to us all putting houses on them is not a good idea 1 the ground is contaminated and 2 the council and developers will not tell you were is the main shafts are located a family got home on a pit site paid a lot of money now they can not sell it as there home is right above the main shaft thanks to the planers and council back handers

You have got the wrong site, These pits were scab pits where only a handful of men actually had the guts to fight in 1984/5. The vast majority of these men worked with Thatcher to close the majority of collieries throughout the UK.

The sad thing is all that good usable coal is down there, and there’s lots of it. Thatcher shut the mines to make a political point first, and to placate the climate gang second. It’s still there, all we gotta do is dig it out.
