Who knew £50 would be the budget option. When I started camping in the 80’s anything more than a rollmat was a luxury. 😁😁

Great review as always. For those that are interested in this pad but are wanting to know the ACTUAL R value, I have just received confirmation directly from products support at Trekology. The R Value is only 1.8. Not the hoped for 4.5 to 5 others have claimed on their reviews. Keep up the good work, I enjoy your style as an outdoorsman.

Thank you! Just bought it and I was wondering if it would be any good for my next wild camping expecting a temp of -2C (28F), feels pretty empty inside and was not really believing that 4.5-5 that others said…maybe with a traditional 2.2 mat on top…

What a refreshing change, an informative, and intelligent problem solving review. I've just ordered one off Amazon for £46 and was getting a peed off with some reviews I've watched, but I can safely say now I'm comfortable with the choice. I have used a UL 80 for some time for extended periods and found it to be comfortable but narrow, so looking forward to tomorrow's delivery. Thanks lad.

My pleasure Malcom. Sleep well! BTW, I've found it to be most comfortable when it's slightly under inflated. As it holds on to you better. 👍

Just picked one up at the car boot sale for a fiver! Brand new, never used. Couldn't understand why the stuff sack was big enough for two of them...this became apparent on deflation and rolling it back up...now it fits back in perfectly. Much bulkier than the UL80 but if you've got the space then those side panels mean you don't roll off, the pillow is well handy and it's oh, so quiet when you turn over. I did a stopwatch of 3min33secs and 101 pumps of the foot. Great for side & back sleeping.

Mate, I've changed my opinion of the 140 mat a little, it does look very comfy, I think because of the inbuilt pillow that's the reason it seems short? Maybe a manufacturing mistake because if the mat was flat it would probably do a 6 footer easy, the UL 80 is plenty long enough for me, and I'm 7ft 2 🤣
@CampLifeBushcraft3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the in built pillow being the reason for it feeling short crossed my mind too. I’ve never liked the idea personally but as I’m a shorty it doesn’t cause any problems. I really like the mat itself, easy to inflate comfy and wide and for 50 notes what’s not to like!

Great video! Bought a couple of these last spring for Motorbike camping with the missus. It's easy to opt for smaller pack-down size for biking, but for good rest and less ear-ache these are well-worth the extra bungee... And for £50 I've not seen anything to beat them. After a few uses, our mattresses DO deflate through the night though (Not to be unexpected) but it's 20-30 seconds for a decent lie-in. Length/height-wise - I'm 6'2" and like you say "It doesn't matter".

I own both the UL80 and the UL140, I have only used the Ul140 once just slightly below zero and I was plenty warm, I did have a foil mat underneath though, so maybe that helped. I slept so well, I am a side sleeper and found it real comfy. Nice review Dan, honest and fair 👍👍👍

Hi buddy. Great review 👏. I recently purchased one of those self inflating egg shell style camping matts which cost me £36. Its ok but is quite noisy when you move on it and also its quite thin. Now you have had this for a while do you still recommend it as I am wondering if its worth spending the extra 🤔. Also how easy is it to get back in the bag. Subscribed 👌
@CampLifeBushcraft2 жыл бұрын
It’s definitely an improvement on the egg shell mat you mentioned. Yes I still like it but it’s a bit bulky, this summer I’ve used it’s smaller (a little thinner and not as wide) brother the UL80 quite a lot which is just as comfy but half the pack size. I think the 140 has slightly more R value but if you use a foil mat in winter under it to reflect your body heat back up at you the 80 is ok. The short version is that both are decent. It’s a question of how much space you have in your bag. I don’t think I’ve reviewed the 80 but it’s in most of my recent videos if you want to see it. Thanks for the sub Dan

you can use the pump, I tried it on UL80 mat which has the same valve and it took a couple of minutes max. I will try it on this one when I remember to take the pump out. I would guess around the 3 minute mark.

I was thinking about your inflatable kayak, if the seat was out of it, could you sleep in it? It'd be insulated as hell! I've anchored up a hard kayak on the water before and dozed off on a winters night (laid flat on my back) while fishing - I was rugged-up because it was winter. Mosquito management was the biggest issue I found with sleeping on the water.

Without seeing I couldn’t say. However, try inflating it and then submerging it in a cold bath and look for bubbles. Alternatively as it’s only 2 weeks old contact trekology and ask for a replacement.

@@CampLifeBushcraft I'm of the belief that klymit have been telling Porkie pies about their r values, I think if you divide their numbers by 2 you're probably closer to the truth. So I'm hoping this might outperform the klymit, certainly looks substantial. 👍🏼

No way is that going to be a 4.5 or 5 R rating. Not even close. Trekology stuff completely sucks especially the UL80! (if it doesn't puncture after 3 uses and you actually get to use it). The 140 is way too thick to hold such a high R rating (thicker the mat the more cold air your body has to heat up). Trekology are lying through their teeth, there's a reason why their stuff is cheap. Buy cheap buy twice.
