i think we're all agreed here, that you surely can paint but this is a new high water mark. The weathering is, to me, ideal. (Can you imagine the Klingon hull-painting crew detail?) And now the new shuttle bay is just remarkable. A thing of beauty.

I built two of these for myself. The first was basically straight out of box with my own lighting and the second was HEAVILY modified into Kronos 1. The first kit went together like a dream. The second one had the same issues that you mentioned on your secondary hull.. but I managed. The research that I put into my K1 build revealed quite a bit of Star Wars kits that had been cannibalized into that model and I had to find or replicate those parts at half of their original scale... that was fun.
@d_jedi13 жыл бұрын
And I'm STILL waiting for K1 photoetch from... well, ANYONE! Shoot, at this point I'd almost take decals.

Really nice and helpful. Having seen the motion control model in the 90s, I think I figured out the weathering. Classic tank model, you pile on pigment powder or ground pastel, soak it with thinner and let it dry. It looks awful at first, but you can scrub at it with a brush to remove and leave it in the cracks. It's a nice dead flat filthy finish, and you can polish some spots to make them satin. Thanks for all the info!

Hi Boyd. She looks amazing. I had a question about putting the top of the primary hull down to seal up the model.....How did you get it on? I had many difficulties on my kit. Did you have to alter some of the inner structure of it to make room for all the wiring/torpedo launcher/engines?

Amazing👍 i have a question I'm not that familiar with the studio model but is there supposed to be a gap where the warp nacelles meet the Hull? Just a little something i noticed on yours... i would like to know before i start building mine.
@TrekWorks5 жыл бұрын
You got me curious about that too and I checked. No gap there on the filming model. I went under the assumption that the engines would be a separate part that could be removed & replaced if it was damaged. I'm working on filling that in now to correct it.

@Innuendoh5 жыл бұрын
Great job!!! Thanks for the video. Is there any worry about the weight of the front end, over time, stressing the joint at the neck from the main body?
@TrekWorks5 жыл бұрын
I really don't think so. The neck and bulb are not super heavy and the wall at the connection point to the rear hull is very thick and strong. I did do some extra internal support work there which I talked about in a followup video. This kit is designed much better than the old 1/537 AMT kit.

All that wonderful detail work then one mounts the power connector so the cable erupts vertically out of the base, a hideous eyesore and homage to WTF. I am currently deciding which of the 3 "options" to get. I'll be happy regardless as long as I come up with a decent workaround for the hideous connector arrangement.

@AvengerII5 жыл бұрын
@1:51 -- In THIS light, it actually DOES look screen-accurate. It's the first time I've seen that model, with that paint job (by anyone), actually LOOK like what I saw onscreen. It looks greyer in this light. I was paying closer attention to the movie footage and it looks like this. I'd still say the final onscreen version looks closer to a medium-dark grey than it does green but it does seem to show green undertones. It had to be the lighting and film processing that changed the color that dramatically from "real life" to "onscreen presentation." Star Trek: The Motion Picture was literally finished at the last minute and they say the release copies were STILL drying as they shipped them to theaters!
@AvengerII5 жыл бұрын
You gonna do Kronos One next, Boyd? Hahahahahahaaha. Ohhhh... I don't blame you if you take a break from the Klingons for a few years! This one turned out really nice. Your explanation for what happened with the weathering on the shooting model makes sense. It's the first time someone's CONVINCED me it was green! And yeah, I have seen pictures of it, too, but I suspect the pictures I saw (color) were taken before they did the "weathering"/"dusting" for the special effects.
