I like how John Eaves is so open about the designing process and about the artistic process that is involved in it. It's like the teacher that is just a bit less strict and make you come out with your own ideas instead of sticking to the rulebook on each step and as close as you can get. I really enjoy that.

I love that Bird of prey from way of the warrior!

That is a interesting way to look at the D & E as 80's TV ratio and Widescreen ships. There is a quite a lot of truth to that too.

Its Very Klingon thats for sure. I've never had much of an opinion of Klingon ships I think the fit with the race and its clearly Klingon. That said Mr. Eaves seems like a really great guy and would be a joy to work with.

Klingons are a Warrior race, external guns are a show of force

1:05...actually smooth and original is fine....the Defiant in "in a mirror darkly" looks nice and more advanced than the NX's.

The original argument stands for me which is the older ships have repairs partially accessible from outside the mid 23rd century designs are supposed to be repaired from the inside. Also the hull may be bonded in some way like a skin and linked to the shield grid too.

Has there been a trekyards where they conjecture on the roles of the D5, older Bird of Prey and the Raptor? Its weird they are all the same-ish size. The Bird of Prey seems the most heavily armed? Looking at the difference between the D5 and the old Bird of Prey, I sort of imagine them being the products of two design bureaus. Like Mig and Sukoi fighter jets from the soviet union.

I always assumed the D5 was bigger than the NX-01 and that the NX-01 could only beat them by outsmarting them and then running away (as we saw in "Judgment" and "The Augments"). And just as they retconned a few ships in the HD version of TOS (such as the Woden or the Aurora), I'd like it if they took the D7 we saw in "Unexpected" and replaced it with a D5.

I want to see the D1. That would be interesting.

Probably some bulky amalgamation of Hur'q technology. Assuming that was their first ship, of course. If the Klingons are anything like they are in FASA the D-series wasn't exactly linear or even purpose-related.

I second that. I would also like to see the D 2 and 3 as well.

I wonder if the feather pattern is part of the shield grid, or if it's simply access panels or is it part of the expansion points to the hull for when it's heated or cooled or exposed to pressure. I do wonder to if what is often simply listed as a heat exchanger that glows red is actually the deflector system. as it's a pretty reasonable place to put it - then the small red part on the front can be a sensor. Watching this video has made me wonder will they use beam phasers or ulse phasers for Klingon ships in Discovery - and will they look like a Motion Picture era ship. Luckily oddities of Voyager and Enterprise in it's ship uses can excuse them using a more motion picture era design - but there is a happy gap for a new D-6 too (Imagine the embarrassment of Tobias' Axanar D-6 looking better than Paramount's does). I'd like to see a hybrid design that has large smooth sections will little bits of detail poking out between to bridge the gap to the wood block model from the 1960's. Grey colouring would be nice to instead of green.

I would like the D5 better if the engine nacelles were angled inward. That little "Z" jog in the wing-connection-nacelle setup just looks off. Also, I am not a fan of the pointy front end of ENT era Klingo or Romulan ship nacelles. I would have preferred a stove-pipe nacelle, or better yet a double stack of two smaller stove pipes to imply the Klingon design of having backups (like their internal organs have).

I like the overall design, but being a D5, I think the "head" should have looked more like an older version of the D7 design. The head on this looks too sleek, and too much like a bird of prey or raptor.
@power5438 жыл бұрын
it was a LONG time before the TOS design though....things evolve in 100 years
@90lancaster8 жыл бұрын
Different mission role - different size too - more of the head is the bridge than it is on the D-7
