I quite like the design and as both a Trek and B5 fan if you gave it an organic looking skin and smoothed it a little you would have a great vessel for a reimagined B5. I guess that is also a back handed compliment in terms of a Federation sourced starship which doesn't quite fit into the Starfleet mold.

"The Icarus has no captains yacht, instead we have a plasma turret in that location." If ever one single sentence convinced me that a ship design is absolutly great, it would be this sentence! :D At first I found it difficult to decide wether I liked that new, unorthodox shipdesign and story around it. Especially the pure number of weapons and the way they shot through a klingon battlecruiser kind of felt like overkill that didn't fit in the ST universe. But now, after watching that episode, I am rather convinced that this design actually makes a lot of sense. It being a heavily modified vessel with lots of alien technology and experimental systems, I can see how it could end up looking like this. Especially the story about it having two warpcores, probably because it was originally meant to split into 2 warp-capable parts, is very convincing and suprisingly convincing. The idea of having holo emitters on the whole ship basically is genius...the only thing that really bothers me: It is such a simple thing. So why didn't starfleet do it on larger vessels long before that? But looking at the holodecks in the series so far, I would guess it is because it would be too risky for starfleet safety protocols to have a ship relie that heavily on holographic emitters. If the energy goes down in a fight for example, not having a physical console and only emitters, it could become a problem that you can't control your ship anymore directly from a lot of places. That being said, I am convinced that starfleet wouldn't do that at this time, but on a prototype of section 31, with modifications from renegades? That makes total sense. I just imagine people trying to beam on this ship and they find themselves surrounded by a hundret renegade soldiers, not knowing that 90% of them are just holograms. And even if they'd figure that out, they wouldn't know who it is who is real. Very useful! In the end, it looks for me like the ship has still so much more weapon systems than any other starship we've seen at this size so far, that there must be something more. So..my theory would, that the crew has so many weapons on there, that they can't even operate them all effectivly in one battle, just because of their energy usage? That would make sense: For the renegades it would be still useful to have this big variety of weapons to choose from, but it also makes sense why so few other vessels in ST have this many weapons: For a whole fleet that has standartized weapons that need to be used as efficient as possible, it wouldn't be useful to have all these weapons on there. I don't know if this theory is anywhere true, and it's just a thought. As for the ship so far, from what I've seen I have to say: Great design, great explanations and a perfect set up for a nice and definetly badass story!

would be cool if this ship could actually be able to split in two and become two different ships. kinda like how the saucer can detach from the secondary hull in the enterprise. i wish they would script the ship itself as well to have hidden features that'll be revealed as the story develops.

Icarus is a very ROUGH looking design. Initially I didn't think much of it. Watching the video you get a true sense of detail and for what the Series or Film is about I think it works. It seems kitbashed but it's not. The tertiary hull isn't merely a replication of the secondary hull. *CRITICISMS & Perceptions * -I don't think the photon tubes should be tucked in the middle of those forks. The torpedoes would always have to be fired at full speed to allow the ship to maneuver after firing. -Icarus looks to have a low Warp Speed like Defiant because it lacks a saucer So likely Warp 9.0 is it's max velocity structurally reinforced. -It's likely also sluggish at high warp because of the drag of it's longer nacelles and multiple protrusions around the ship which deform the warp field. -I don't see anyway this ship lands. It's balanced but I see not hardpoints for the excention of struts Conclusions. From what I've seen. Very very interesting design. Nothing here violates Star Trek trends. It seems fairly well thought out from this limited briefing.

DocWolph Seems you followed them well enough to reply to. 2. According to canon Defiant cannot achieve speeds over warp 9 due to the amount of power necessary to stabilize ships structure. The necessary power is instead giving to the ships phaser reserves. Cont- This is directly related with why Star Fleet chose the saucer/Sphere design. According to canon graphics the saucer hull geometry helps to shape and stabilize the warp field. It is a significant reason for the Intrepid's speed and the Galaxy's stability at warp 9.2 Cont- According to Voyager a Kazon shuttle craft sticking out of the Saucer section prevents them from forming a stable warp field. Cont- According to Voyager Borg Cubes project a structural integrity field ahead of the ship to compensate for gravametric shear withing the transwarp conduit. Conclusion. The major factors for warp speed is power, Hull Geometry and Structural Integrity fields. (This is all canon data)
@saquist9 жыл бұрын
I believe the Structural Integrity Field was developed in TNG when they were researching the math beyond the Galaxy Class Starship. The Tech Manual was produced in 1991 and the first mention of SIF was in 1990. Sternbach and Okuda figured the Galaxy was to big to hold together under it's own weight and so they developed these magic fields, SIF and IDF fields (first mention 1992) -In actuality there is no upper limit to how fast a space bubble can travel One of the largest Black Holes is 20 BILLION Solar Masses. 6,666,666,666.67 (Billion Times the Speed of Light) At that speed a 13 Billion LY trip would take two years. The largest is 40 Billion so just a year with that as your engine. -Counterpoint Voyager was able to travel at warp 6 in Year of hell with a multitude of breaches in the Hull while structural integrity was compromised it didn't prevent a stable warp bubble. With no canon facts I find your argument here effectively nullified. But there's no reason why you can't continue to believe what you want.

Civilian ships are registered RMS for Royal mail ship, like the Titanic was, but neither HMS nor RMS indicates _anything_ about piracy or illegal or renegade... @peccatumDei9 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Fairchild No telling what the exhaust from a 24th century impulse engine would be. If the warp drive was running at a low level, the mass of the ship would be reduced, and it would take less of a push from the impulse engines, to accelerate the ship. The landing struts on Voyager WERE particularly egregious though. When they set the model down on the miniature set, it fell forward! The forward struts were behind the center of gravity, and they wound up hiding the back of the ship behind an outcropping of rock, so you couldn't see the had holding it down.
@FLAME456X9 жыл бұрын
Jonathan Fairchild Indeed. But infact both the (JJ) Enterprise, (Matt Jefferies) Enterprise and the Vengeance would definatly dwarf the Icarus but out of them the Vengance would be the biggest. But I commend the developers wise choice to never again feature the Vengeance.

I try not to be critical of people who obviously put a lot of hard work into things, but this ship really does not work. "We are going to take the best technology from every world and race and make a super ship!" It's a lazy design, and if you have an ultimate vessel that can shred the opposition then there is no drama. Why not get it over with and add in regenerative neutronium hull plating? Quantum Slipstream drive? Fire while cloaked! etc There is a reason that the Defiant could not always rely upon a cloaking device. Imagine my disappointment when Voyager ended with convenient super tech to get them home from the future.

+Mariah Sinclair (Mariahsyn) Agreed, it needs a weakness.

Could've named it the Stormborn (first of her class) and given it plenty of plot armor. =P (bad GoT joke) What I probably would have done, was instead of so much giving it all the goodies, was give the ship some teeth and then instead of the traditional cloak, give her sensor baffling technology as a passive stealth feature make her hard to track in the first place. But then here comes the kicker, why not make it something like the Enterprise Era Romulan Marauder? Be able to alter your power signature and sensor profile.. maybe even use skin mounted holo technology or some sort of morphing hull plating to appear to be ANYTHING but what you are.. or as the Founders might say "Learn to be a rock" or in this case "A Rigelian Freighter" Icarus doesn't need firepower beyond maybe your average Defiant-class.. you don't need super sensors, either. You just need to be able to sneak in, do what must be done and get the hell out.. speed is advisable.. Ha! Sorry to go on a rant but I've been thinking about how the Icarus could be improved for a while now.

_Star Trek: Renegades_ was a fan Trek film. _Renegades_ is the continuation - based on the "same" characters and stories and stuff - but it's had all of its Trek-specific elements removed or altered or disguised for legal copyright compliance. The project has undergone many changes in plans and schedules over time (and it's a mess) ... so far they've released _Star Trek: Renegades Episode 1_ (full "pilot" movie) and _Renegades: The Requiem Part 1_ (of 2, or maybe 3) ... and a collection of trailers, behind-the-scenes, production vids ... with _Renegades: The Requiem Part 2_ currently under production. It's received some cruel reviews, and it is indeed mildly awful, but it is still watchable and still worth watching if you're a Star Trek fan. kzbin.info/door/93HHl05BqY8Jj3piG92HOg atomicnetwork.tv/ renegades.show/home/ www.startrek.com/fan-films

I kinda hate this ship, but I think the saving grace here is that most of the bits I hate were due to it being modified extensively by pirates. It has far too many greeblies and weird sticking-out bits to be at all coherent with the Starfleet design language, but the fact that we could pass those off as later additions makes that much more bearable.

This is the ugliest ship I've ever seen in Trek and I promise to bleach my eyes tonight
@armymatt839 жыл бұрын
I see one major problem with this ship and that is it can't possibly have much room for the crew or cargo with this hull configuration and size. the impulse engines are outside but their fuel tanks are inside and with the phaser banks and torpedo launchers most of the equipment is buried under the hull plating so that's more internal volume gone then the bussard scoops which are obviously not small on this ship would take up a fair amount of space in the hull, at least as mush as a deflector unit would and there's two of them . factor in the warp power plant, computer core, and other equipment that sucks up space it would be like living in a flying sardine can. this ship has some serious design flaws.
@DrewLSsix8 жыл бұрын
Because it's not an ideal comfortable ship it's flawed? So yeah, it's cramped quarters inside...it's a fact and a feature of the ship that no doubt lends it a different character than other ships.

It's not a childish design but it has some flaws as it should but being loaded with weapons and having two warp cores is not childish at all. This design wasn't done by the usual Star Fleet Engineers thus their is a heavy departure from it's design philosophy and a amalgam of technology interfacing. About the only childish thing I see is all the people saying "it doesn't look like Star Trek" the Federation is one part of Star trek.

Roughly same size as Constitution. More firepower and agility than Defiant. Tougher shields than Galaxy. Faster than Sovereign. Stealth, cloak, full holo, advanced sensors and communications, supercomputer. And superior combat effectiveness against multiple warships. And less than 9 crew (Captain just sits and glares and talks/yells a lot, half the rest just stand around arguing or looking tough instead of somehow operating ship functions). A dull show when all these overpowered characters in their overpowered ship can routinely outgun and outrun every adversity without any challenge.

Who came up with the BS idea that a ship being capable to split off into several is not totally compromising the structure of the entire ship leading to far worse structural strength and wast of energy and space than if a ship didn't have that? Enterprise-D was already idiotic but since then it has been in a downward spiral with the multi vector BS Prometheus (bring three small ships if you need multi vector whatever!). It's not a clever idea, from an engineering standpoint it is horrendous, from a tactical standpoint: That's why you have smaller ships to begin with, means you can bring one, two, or more to a mission and they are not slaved to each other.
