I see the opposite. I think the federation took cues from the dominion war. They saw how effective the "bug ship" design was and federationized it. Now I realize the original design was from the pre TOS era, but nothing is stopping them from going back and taking design cues (with the newest technology) and adapting it for the 2409 era

@12:40 in between the "falcon" mandables there is a big ass shuttle bay considering the size of the ship. THis is a ship I like but I must confess it's friggen confusing in still pictures to keep track of some of the features since the design likes to hide them with all the facets and grooves on it. It makes a bit more sense when it's in motion but yeah I don't know if it would make it past a showrunner without modification for a tv show. Maybe the Vulcans designed it for diversity sake. The crazy deflector on this might be accounted for in that it's supposed to be a "temporal warship". Probably balancing open portals and controlling anamolies.

From the first picture I assumed it was like the Miranda-class variations which had the nacelles attached without the need of a rollbar attached. But I am definitely not a fan of the deflector dish and the way it protrudes out like that.

Those could be weapons in those forward-facing openings that kinda mirror the extended mandibles in the rear. The game wiki says forward and aft quantum launchers only, but then that wiki also calls all phaser strips "phaser (heavy) cannons" and visually fires them out of the impulse crystal, so its very game-oriented and practically disregards ST visual canon.

I actually love this ship and think it would look great with separation capabilities. The saucer does look like the Jupiter 2 from the Netflix lost in space series. @Mellowcanuck333 жыл бұрын
3:11 if its an actual warship, I would have integrated the nacelles to the dish with solid decking and hull plating just to reinforce the entire structure. Then have armor to come down over the nacelles on the exterior. Ahh now that I see the secondary hull...I would to the same from the bottom. Like a clam shell to cover the nacelles from direct fire...but still exposed to function.

both the Edison and Hoover's essential sections work, for the most part: saucers of both - okay, secondary hulls of both - also okay. however, where the secondary hull sits in relation to the saucer is where the design falls into awkwardness. the Hoover's secondary hull, as atypical a shape as it is for Starfleet, would be better served positioned farther back on the saucer so that its rear top edge rests flush with the rear of the saucer and, as the Edison is an updated iteration of the Hoover, the same would follow suit for Edison's secondary hull. an added bonus of positioning the secondary hull farther back would have given the opportunity to have the ubiquitous planetary sensor array dome included. as i personally dislike the 25th century in-strut impulse design, the most logical choice would be to place the impulse engines within the center rear of the saucer section of the Hoover and between the 'Falcon's mandibles' in the rear of the Edison, which would free up immense vents(?) that are in the center of the rear facing of the secondary hull to function as doors to a rather spacious shuttle bay. TL:DR as is: Meh. a few alterations in-line with the Starfleet aesthetic: woulda been pretty cool.

Be cool if that underside with the deflector thing, would separate. Like if the “warp delta” would come off and attack! Lol that would look cool
@weirdkitty073 жыл бұрын
The profiles on this ship are weird and similar to the Defiant and Falcon and Miranda and the bottom is a raider, or half of one, from B5. Instead of making the nacelles slim profile, turn them like Miranda and make them sleeker. Make the saucer turned around, so the wedge is in front, and the scale should be closer to Voyager than Enterprise D. It's like the Jem Hadar kitbashed a ship.

I don't like the articulated secondary hull on warships. It's an obvious structural weak point. I'd like this design better if it was categorized as an Explorer.

The booklet with the eaglemoss model says nothing about time travel, it's just a warship built to replace losses from the Iconian war, and the federation, Klingon empire, Romulans, and Dominion are an alliance at this time and share designs and technology.

Most of my gripes with the Edison are in the way Cryptic implemented the ship and its traits and abilities, rather than the visuals, per se. I do entirely agree with the point that they pretty much did a reasonable job of making what is an essentially unbalanced and aesthetically annoying shape (about the only Disco fed ship I felt didn't work) be a bit more pleasing when they converted the Disco ship to 25th century looks, but it was always hobbled by that basic layout/silhouette.
@thetrekwrightchannel41863 жыл бұрын
Minimalists are the most interesting/challenging; how do you make them both cool and unique while adding so little to the basic saucer. I'm fine with only the "coil" or blue lit parts of the engines having line of sight; I think these engines have too little line of sight to each other. It would definitely be better as a smaller ship. Shift the secondary hull back a bit. The Capt. may be right about turning the saucer around though you do get into Star Wars territory if you do that.

It's mostly a visually appealing design, but only as an art piece, and the two shapes of primary and secondary hull are kind of jarring. . But as a space combat vessel, it is...unfortunately...like most Star Trek ships, total trash. Wouldn't last a full minute against an equally advanced, equally armed ship specifically designed for space combat of that technological theme. . Edit: I also hate the name.
