I've had really crappy germination with a lot of my seed this year. I'm trying to work through some of the older packets in my stash before I buy anything new. I've gone a bit ham and planted every single seed of about 8 different pumpkin varieties hoping something will grow 😂. Your patch is looking fab. It's fun watching someone else's garden grow. Mine seems to always look the same because I check on it every 2 hours 🤣

Yeah I am having the same problem too with some of my seeds especially my corn which disappointingly I had just bought new seeds and they arnt germinating well. I have a habit of always buying new seeds as I get anxious to start growing straight away

Really appreciate your channel and all the info and tips. We are in Young so it is good to see what you are doing and to make plans for a few weeks delay as right now we are that bit cooler than Sydney. Thank you for the inspiration.

Thats the smile of a proud man and so you should. The garden and your harvests are looking great. Well done. I started my pumpkin seeds in pots and transplanted them out about the beginning of October at the base of a old brush wood fence for them to climb over. Now their starting to climb and had first flower already. I got some ginger to try, just need to plant it now. Thanks for the idea. Have a good week mate. Cheers 😀👍

I’ve found the best success with ginger to leave them in for 2 years. We have two pots that I alternate and I get around 2-3kgs from each pot. I discovered fermented ginger beer so I’ve increased to 4 pots for this year. Great tips for the pumpkins, I am having terrible luck this year.

Hey mate. Are you getting some of that rain down there. Been hot here in Gympie Queensland and the rain has been going around me most of the time. Garden is still going well with the ground water harvesting. And found the culprit eating the corn it is a king parrot he likes tomatoes too. Have a great week mate. 😊
@sydneybackyardveggies96122 ай бұрын
It’s been fairly dry here too not as much rain as normal. Hopefully we get a few rains come through over the next few weeks. Hope you get to keep the parrots away from your corn

Is that a small mango tree near the fence? Our mango season is in full swing up here in Darwin. For us it's too humid to plant your summer crops, especially later on when we get knock em down tropical rain storms. So for me at least, I get jealous when I watch your videos. Thanks for sharing.
@sydneybackyardveggies96122 ай бұрын
Yes that’s a mango mine just started flowering and it has some small fruit showing! I won’t be harvesting them till March. Thabks for watching mate with your weather you could be growing summer veggies all dry season

Anthony, your videos are really most helpful with ideas and practical tips for me as I'm starting a veggie garden from scratch here at Blackheath in the Blue Mountains. I noticed your anti-cat mesh or grid, which should also be useful to keep the local wallabies and lyrebirds at bay! Did you buy it somewhere in Sydney?
@sydneybackyardveggies96122 ай бұрын
Hi Paul thanks for watching. These mesh panel I got for free as surplus from a construction site but they are essentially cattle mesh panels you can get them from Bunnings. The ones I have are 2.4m long and nominally 1.2m high. They would work well as a physical barrier around your patch I would attach them to a couple steel pickets fixed with cable ties.
@paulclayton98932 ай бұрын
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 Thanks Anthony. I guessed that Bunnings might have something suitable; the trick is knowing how they describe whatever it is you're looking for. On their website I found that a product search for 'wire mesh fence panel' gave me the results I wanted. 😀

I was using the 100mm x 100mm wire mesh go for the larger sized one it’s cheaper

Great tips for growing ginger Anthony! I think I need to start mine again! Nothing has germinated from the one I planted a while ago. Your cauliflowers look amazing. I’ll definitely be getting that variety next year! Any tips for controlling aphids on cucumbers. Mine are starting to get covered in them! I’m trying to find ladybugs in my garden and putting them on the leaves! lol
@sydneybackyardveggies96122 ай бұрын
Your cucumbers are doing great. The Craig variety is a great one isn’t it. I use contact sprays in my context like white oil or pyrethrum to control them but make sure if you are using white oil don’t use it if it’s going to be warmer than 28 degrees you run the risk of frying your plants
@Charles00-xj3kz2 ай бұрын
Thats a lot of cucumbers! What is the spacing between the plants.
@sydneybackyardveggies96122 ай бұрын
They are at 20cm spacings. 2 per spot. The vertical trellis allows for closer spacings. I do need to keep the fertilisier up to them though

Those tomatoes are looking great! I have a question for you - are they in full sun, or do they get some shade? My tomatoes that get afternoon shade are a similar size to yours. My others in the full sun are half the size. Same nutrients applied, same variety. Only difference I can think of is full sun vs afternoon shade.
@sydneybackyardveggies96122 ай бұрын
Mate mine are in full sun from 9am to about 5pm. I find that they do better in full sun. Tomatoes can handle afternoon western sun. Dads tomatoes are in morning sun and I find they arnt doing as great
@mannbat2 ай бұрын
@@sydneybackyardveggies9612 Thanks mate. I was always taught full sun is better, hence why my tomatoes get priority on the full-sun bed. Guess I'll have to keep trying to work out why my part-shade are doing so much better.
