Josh Wright Piano TV - Tremolos. Relaxation, rotation, and agility are addressed in this video to help the student maximize speed and ease when playing tremolos. Passages from Beethoven's Pathetique Sonata are used to demonstrate these concepts.

Thank you Sir! By far the best video on how to practice the tremolo in this sonata on the whole internet, I kid you not. I made very good progress in 15 minutes.

Wow!!! This helped me *tremendously*. I've been playing a piece for about a year that has octave tremolo's and have struggled with it the entire time. I thought I was incapable of such speed, I'm immediately almost playing it perfectly. Excellent video and excellent teaching, Josh.

This is exactly what I needed to know about tremolo! By instinct, I knew it was more about the wrist movement than finger movement, and this video helped me increase my speed. Thank you!

I would love some insight into harder tremelos (4 note chords divided in half, sometimes you alternate 3 and 1 note, sometimes 2 and 2 notes) - these ones are so hard!!!

Great vid. Thanks Josh! The ultimate challenge with this tremolo is going to be the dynamic controle. I was watching a video on how the tremolo in this should be used to controle the expression. Think I just need to get it even and soft first though.

i would recommend drum rudiments for these types of articulations. The LR translates well and you i get volumes of drills including being able to doing precise rolls and accenting when you desire, also , you can apply each lr to any finger combination ,

I know this is an old video, but I have to thank you for explaining this in a very understandable way! I turned my back on this song solely because I couldn't get the tremolos figured out. I've been practicing your way and think I may have it! It's still choppy when I change notes and my right hand is sloppy because I'm not used to playing it with the left hand actually correct, but I have hope now! Question, how are we supposed to pedal these things? Or are we supposed to? Its been over a decade since I've had lessons :) Thanks again!

this is probably very usefull for tremolo's over large intervals. but i'm struggling with a single note interval. The rotation technique doesn't really work for me as it is on a black and white note and if i rotate my finger will kinda get stuck in between the black notes when hitting the white note, also other fingers which i'm supposed to be not using will start to hit notes. does anyone have any tips on how to get better at this?

I started doing this exercise yesterday as I am for the first time facing tremolos. Is it normal that I feel fatigue in my triceps muscle when I do this exercise? Not tension or pain, just fatigue as if the muscle got tired. I feel this very quickly, maybe 10-15 seconds into the exercise. Thanks.

I've learned in piano lessons that tremolos are almost "un-rhythmic", played as fast as possible. This is not the case with Beethoven's "Pathetique", it is a broken eighth octave. It is of course possible that tremolos are only defined in Germany in this way, at least the name tremolo for this figuration in relation to the Pathetique always meets me ...

how come you use chopin 10/4 as an example of how the left hand generally doesn't have to be as mobile as the right? The entire point of the etude is for the melody and accompaniment to be switched around between both hands and for both of them to basically work equally except for a few specific passages that feature more traditional chopin writing. Still a really bad example of the right hand having to be more mobile than the left

this is not true, a few tackts later you have to play the same thing you played in the right hand on the left of the etude op 10 no.4. but you are right - many things you practice more on right hand as left.

But, even prior to this you have to KNOW the notes. FIRST thing I do is get the right fingering. THEN you have to learn the notes before putting any of this together.
@TomSistermans
@TomSistermans 7 жыл бұрын
OmgLoLw2gLuvUidkROFL well that all sort of goes hand in hand doesn't it? If you can play all the notes in the piece, why should you start over to learn the technique? You're supposed to bring the knowledge of the last pieces you played to the next one, so I'd say use that to your advantage from the moment you start with the next piece
