It is my understanding that originally 40k had a mix of grimdark with a bit of levity (such as the noise marines), but this seems to dive into grimdark with an insane determination. I wonder if they will occasionally break up the gloom to avoid fans being exhausted or desensitized to it.

On the contrary, I feel like 40k isn't grimdark enough. It's been too tainted by memes and casualization of the lore by people who get easily tired of the dark setting.
