I am a turkish person and I LOVE the iron sultanate. The jannisaries are exactly my definition of cool. Theese people clearly did some research as the characters look really good and they seem to know what a muezin actually is which is great. Also jenn is wearing her wedding ring. I love that Jabir ibn Hayyan (after whom the Lions of Jabir are named) was a real alchemist and esotericist! In his Book of Stones, he claims that alchemists could learn to create living beings, including humans. It feels strange to say so, but I feel like that really grounds the wacky alchemical creations which the Iron Sultanate use!

They are probably faithful faction and I have some theories that possibly Vlad the Impaler in TC is leader of Commonwealth, but we have nothing concrete besides them being on side of the Faithful. Christian Vampires is pretty novel.

I'm so happy to see someone really champion the "contextless, mysterious one-line mention" style of wordbuilding, lol. I can't remember how many times I've gone into a setting knowing literally nothing and just basking in the evocative language itself. I remember going into RuneQuest and reading about "The I Fought We Won Battle" and shit like that and just loving it despite having no idea about anything. Warhammer did the same for me as a kid, back when the Horus Heresy was a near-complete mystery (I used to theorycraft endlessly about what the Emperor's Great Work was, before the whole webway deal was revealed). Mystery and wonder are very important tools, and I love seeing more people embrace the "I have no idea what's going on, and I'm loving it"-attitude.

What were some of your spiciest theories for the Emperor's Great Work?

​@@johnfraire6931 My main guess was that he was preparing to making all of humanity into psykers and unlocking the full potential of the human soul and genome. Another was that the primarchs were basically prototypes for what the Emperor was going to turn all of humanity into, ascending all of humanity into immortal psykers like himself, possibly ascending to a higher plane and squeezing the chaos gods out of the warp to take over. Stuff like that.

Yeah, mysterious lore tidbits go a long way to hooking people into a setting. As you mentioned, the Horus Heresy being an almost throwaway mention in the Book of the Astronomican way back in like Rogue Trader/1st edition days and now being a 60+ book saga is a fantastic example of how small things can take a life of their own and shape a setting. One of my other favourite enduring mysteries in 40k is the missing Primarchs. It's one subject (along with which Primarchs will return next) guaranteed to get fans throwing out all their favourite theories and one I don't think we'll ever get answers to other than hints in lore. Which is as it should be IMO.

I love, love, love Trench Crusade as the setting - it's very open to kitbashing and everything else, and I like it. The game rules are amazing as well, incredibly satisfying to play.

The whole snippits of lore in timeline stuff is what got me into 40k deep as a 12 year old in the early 90s. The 2nd Ed books, Codex Imperialis, Wargear and Rulebooks all had little flavour text boxes scattered throughout that gave little windows into the universe. That's where my love and intrigue for the Horus Heresy came from, just a few random mentions. Love that that's being done here. The lore and universe seems wild

It’s always cool to see different table top games and how they go about lore, vibes, and and changing the experience of players The vagueness of the lore is very intriguing as well. Being vague enough to be interesting but not losing your audience is a hard line to walk, and it feels like they’ve done it here. For example the God took the city line immediately made me think of God taking Elijah to heaven, but I see some people in the comments thinking the city was just obliterated and both are valid based on the info we have. That’s the balance and that makes me excited about this game

Oh, but dont discuss the lore too much or you’ll get banned from the Discord. I wish that event had never happened. I wasnt monetarily invested in 40k so I was excited to see some potential competition. But after the Discord incident I think it may have killed around 75% of the hype

It could also be that Argos was God's favorite collection of people that the Trench Crusade wasn't meant to touch, for whatever reason or another, and he scooped them up and gave them a direct ticket to Heaven. We may never know.

I have a fun headcanon that the only people who truly know what happened to Argos and can still "see" it are the Blind Snipers who always are able to see the Fate of Argos. Maybe when they do not fight they always look in the direction of where Argos was.
