Whoa whoa whoa! Necromunda, the first version from the days of 2nd Ed. 40k, beack in the Early-to-mid-90's came BEFORE 'Mordheim', it was basically the 'Warhammer Fantasy' version OF Necromunda in pretty much EVERY way, even a lot of the mechanics were similar! (Speaking as someone who Played the original Necromunda at the time and thus is very much aware that Mordheim came later)

the gunpowder weapons feeling less worth it than the crossbows does feel like a feature that reinforces the setting though, sorta at the cusp of gunpowder weapon development surpassing the established arms, but just not there yet. kinda reminiscent of Princess Mononoke (or the whole Sengoku Jidai period of transition), or the first couple of Assassin's Creed settings, where they were incredibly niche and cumbersome, but incredibly killy at the same time, and slowly got more commonplace as those few obsessed tinkerers kept improving the tech for both the betterment and detriment of society... very grimdank 💀

My biggest complaint about Mordheim was the ever present "quality of quantity" issue. 5 dwarfs versus 12 skaven was a lost cause. As I remember, I had to only lose 2 stunties compared to 5+ ratboys to automatically break and leave the field. Plus the inequality of objective taking just left a bad taste in my gaming mouth. Loved the terrain: something they need to start thinking about returning to.

Necromunda was the predecessor to Mordheim, not the other way around. (And Confrontation and Gang War were before Necromunda too.) Gorka Morka was also before Mordheim. You're not wrong about the new player gotchas - even in Necromunda this is a problem, and quite honestly a plasma gun is a terrible starter weapon too. :P (Imo, I'm sure there'll be people who love the thing, but I've killed way more of my own gangers than enemies with the damn things.)

Gorkamorka is incredible and there's SO many fantastic new plastic official kits and resin 3D prints that'd be fantastic to play in a modern version. Plus it has what may be the single best wargame rule of all time: Trukks can hold as many orks as they can physical fit, and if any orks fall off during the trucks move, the orks have fallen off where the model lies, and take damage based on how far the Truck has moved so far It's stupid as hell and I love it.

Good is relatively, the game rules definitely show their age. But that's not what Mordheim is about, it's about being creative with everything from models and terrain to wacky adventures and houseruling the crap out of the game. It's about the journey of your and your friends' bands of misfits that will end up having unique stories tied to specific games and campaigns. Unlike a lot of current GW franchises, Mordheim was more designed with the sandbox idea in mind. The designers wanted folks to go as mad with the game as they themselves were allowed to go. Mordheim has none of today's cynical notes and bitter GW after taste. ;-)

My only real issue with Mordheim is the henchmen "units". They can promote to hero level in the warband (this is good), but such is advancement, mixed with their starting stats, they will still be so much weaker than other heroes even at the same of higher level. There are also a limited number of hero slots to fill so you're trying to save those for the actual hero units, which you need to save up for. Would be much better if it had something similar to the juves in Necromunda.
@TabletopTime9 сағат бұрын
They do, Young Bloods - I've got 2 of them. Most warbands should absolutely buy as many (5/6) heroes as they can right away
@timidwolf7 сағат бұрын
@@TabletopTime when I last played (admittedly awhile ago), most warbands were still very limited there. And for some warbands even the cheapest heroes could be very expensive and above that 'young blood' level, practically resulting in not having those options.
