Trent's football intelligence is just off the charts. He sees opportunities that other players don't. Some players have vision but not the passing accuracy and vice versa. Trent has both. His quick corner against Barca in the 2019 semi is an example of lightening fast thinking and pinpoint accuracy in passing.

Looking at the current market, midfield is the most expensive position to fill. Therefore, I think LFC would be better off moving Trent to midfield permanently and finding a new right-back, than spending insane amounts of money looking for a world-class midfielder who might still need time to adapt.

“You pick players for what they can do, not what they cannot” Just about ever player has weaknesses, its the manager’s job to arrange the tactics to minimize the weaknesses while allowing them to use their strengths. Is Trent the most impregnable rightback? No, butTrent is also one of the best passers of the ball in the league, so obviously Klopp thinks his inclusion in the team is worth sacrificing some defensive solidity.

An inverted wingback tucks inside to form part of the midfield. An inverted fullback also tucks inside but the difference is he takes up a position like a centreback. These days, Trent plays as an inverted wingback and he did not create this position, Kimmich was already playing in that role years prior.
@football.cinema.11 ай бұрын
I agree he didn’t create it 🙂 But he is tasked with the most offensive responsibility I’ve ever seen from a full back in that role (Kimmich, zinchenko and cancelo included)
@carllilley35111 ай бұрын
Liverpool do not play a wingback system with three center backs. So TAA is not an inverted wingback. He also does not play the inverted fullback role. That's the point of this video. To show that he is neither. It's an evolution of those and as we saw the advent of a false nine a few years ago, with Trent, we get a false 66 (lol). Or as Sideline Starters said: false fullback. New. Different role to Kimmich who is primarily a CDM having only played RB less than a quarter of his appearances. To claim that Kimmich has somehow defined a role that he barely plays is a huge stretch.

It is not a new position at all. It is an innovation from Pep Guardiola, who first utilized this role for Philip Lahm when he coached Bayern Munich. Trent is used in the exactly same way, where he moves between positions on right of defense and as a deep playmaking midfielder, what in Italian calcio often is called a "regista", which can be conceived of as the "director" of midfield play, often from position just in front of the central defenders. It is not new, but takes A LOT of skill and training to implement properly. Arteta has given Zinchencho a similar role from the left back at Arsenal.

My friend watch the whole video next time haha, I said the exact same thing about it being an innovation from Guardiola and used zinchenko as an example as well 😂🙏 Although I disagree that he had “exactly”same role as Lahm, they had different attacking responsibilities for their teams Trent is not just a regista, he gets a lot higher up the pitch and can be found in half spaces and just outside the box/arrives late inside of it Cheers 🙂
