Interesting detour and shunting. I've been on many city transit vehickles where the operator announces a detour and some passengers don't listen. Thanks tressteleg1

I like the black and white films of trams, buses, an' all. To see the lads and lasses, grinning, as they raced to catch their carriage. A splendid time, how privileged were we. For mum and dad, without, we would never see.

Just mobile phone twaddle filling any grey matter that happens to be there. The most common ‘trap’ I saw as a W conductor was when the 1 to South Melbourne Beach turned out of St Kilda Rd. So often the moment the front of the tram started the turn, somebody jumped up and pulled the cord to get off. Ha ha ha !

@@tressteleg1 It has been my experience that people do not read signs, do not read important notices, and most importantly, either do not listen to announcements, or only half hear them!!

@ Yes, and then argue that they had read the Destination, that no announcement had been made as they were listening etc etc.

Why the silly desto signs? Last stop is Flagstaff Stn so the tram displays a scrolling sign saying 'City Dudley & William Sts'. Not only does the service not take passengers to Dudley St, intending passengers have to wait for the desto to scroll before they can know where it is going and hail the driver, which is not practical when approaching a conditional stop at speed. The 67a route number doesn't help much as it only indicates the route has altered, you need to read the desto sign to know HOW the route is altered. A simple non-scrolling 'Flagstaff' sign would be less confusing, or at least the traditional 'City via WIlliam St'. And on the return trip the tram scrolls 'Carnegie via William St'. What for? The tram is already in William St! A simple non-scrolling 'Carnegie' sign would be much easier to read. I think of some poor slob waiting at an outbound stop in St Kilda Rd who sees a tram displaying 'via William St 67a', wonders what 67a means, perhaps it means only going as far as Elsternwick or is diverting via Dandy or Balaclava Rds or whatever, and by the time it scrolls Carnegie and the passenger hails the driver the tram is already passing the stop. And why go to William St anyway? If the Uni terminus is out of action they could shunt at Franklin St. I don't think the management of the tramways, either Yarra Trams or the government department overseeing it (or both), has any idea about the reality of public transport - assuming they even care.

@@AshleyReynolds-vc6ly The so-called silly destination was only on the older Z class and was accurate for the tram movements. In fact there used to be a tram stop right before the junction into the siding, but that was taken away. Personally I thought the arrangements during the Uni trackwork were appalling. Telling the people to walk around the worksite!!! About 2 km Latrobe St to Lygon St. No buses. Don’t blame me. I’m only the cameraman. You should take your beefs to Yarra. There is a new operator from 1 December and they may listen to you.

@@tressteleg1 I certainly wasn't blaming you, I was just commenting. The destos may have been accurate for the tram movements, but destos are for passenger info and they should be accurate for passenger movements! I didn't realise they left a 2km gap, that totally sucks - maybe they knew they were losing the franchise and that's why they didn't care!

@ Dudley St used to be a destination. I remember terminating Ws there when South Melbourne depot went to West Coburg in the evening peak hour. As nothing normally shunts there now, it’s not worth the trouble of altering those trams. Keolis did not know they lost the contract until 6 months later. I’m not sure if the government or Yarra organises trackwork and replacement buses. That would have to be the shabbiest alternatives I have ever seen. Same with the use of the ‘a’ with the route number. It is a warning to actually read the desto.
