This really should have been nominated and WON an Oscar. Some of the best music ever!

Oscars never seemed to me, based on good story telling, cinematography or music but rather favoritism of certain artists and politics. They were always given to Drama films and ostracized certain genres like Horror, Sci Fi, Fantasy that they deemed lesser

Love Trevor Jones a lot! However, even the structure of this melody and its counter-melodies are based on complementing the pre-existing composition "The Gael" by celtic folk musician Dougie MacLean - to which Jones' "Promentory" theme is a straight up adaptation of. No doubt at the behest of director Michael Mann's obsessive penchant for tinkering with sources for his soundtracks, of course. So credit due, though. Dougie MacLean really deserves a composer citation on most of Jones' themes for Last of the Mohicans. Which are absolutely great embellishments, and I do consider Trevor Jones a magnificent composer of original works. I like Randy Edelman's additional untethered contributions too.

I've been listening to a lot of Trevor Jones' oeuvre lately. Even though he's certainly respected, I still wish he had gained more prominence.
