Honestly this is exactly what a WH Correspondents Dinner speech should be. At least half of the jokes you'd only get if you were really into journalism. It's for them. As it is supposed to be. Makes for a strong reboot of the tradition.

Look, most of them, informed people could get. But some of those were very "inside baseball" jokes targeted to make journalists laugh harder. Which I appreciate, he was playing the room.

Trevor has a gift for being funny and instantly taking that humor and making a deeply important point with it. You could hear a pin drop when he switched modes and the entire room got very very quiet. The idea that we can speak the truth, no matter how uncomfortable it makes people, especially elected officials, is truly powerful.

Definitely one of the best speeches I’ve seen at one of these events. When he dropped the jokes and really spoke from the heart about journalistic integrity…riveting stuff. There *are* journalists putting their lives on the line to perpetuate truth, and that’s honorable. Make fun of the blatant silliness we see every day, but also give credit where it’s due. Trevor's last remark hits the heart of what role the real journalism has to play. It is exactly what the Russians wouldn't see. And as Biden said, the democracy is not for a show game. Journalism supports the democracy, where everybody has the same true information, not some propaganda or misinformation. Responsibility is to be taken seriously and not to be taken for granted.

The brilliance of Trevor Noah is not that he is a comedic genius. He doesn't need to be. He's funny and he's not afraid to broach topics and shine light on the truth in a satirical manner. In fact, some of his roasts were so raw that, at times, it was hard to cringe. Trevor's genius lies in his ability to stand straight in front and confront...pulls the covers...and say what's needed to be said...and do it with unabashed bravery. His set wasn't the funniest I've heard and at times there was loud silence as some took offense to his jokes. Despite that, during the last 2 minutes, Trevor delivered a very powerful non-partisan reality check for every journalist in America reminding them of how critical our democracy is...and how critical their roles are in preserving it....and reporting the truth...because we have that privilege in America. He ended with a standing ovation. Enough said.

Made me uncomfortable but many of the people he called out have unforgivably used their platform to misinform the public because stirring people up gets higher ratings. The anti-Covid stuff may have caused deaths - but the "stolen election" thing has permanently harmed our nation. We as citizens don't directly affect policy, we can only vote to elect people to represent us. Up until now, if the opposition won we might be upset but we knew the majority ruled. If we can't even depend on that, then we can't believe in our system at all. Every close election will cause more chaos in the public. Our country will never be the same.
