I enjoyed it, after watching “The Boy Band Con” and “The Hitman From Pop to Prison.” For the guys that didn’t get accepted to any boy bands in “Making The Band” are the lucky ones. Years later, everyone either left and/or sue Lou Pearlman cause of the contract. Worst of all was that Lou Pearlman was a con man, and orchestrated a Ponzi scheme. Plus there’s also sexual allegations and the worst paycheck the boy bad received.

Lou Pearlman screwed over all his bands. He didn’t understand the concept that the talent needs to get paid for their work. He believed that because he put the band together that he deserved the money. Which is why all the boy bands sued and left him. People that successful don’t like being exploited.He was a completely corrupt and sociopathic a-hole and destroyed many lives.

What Lou did to them was no different than what happened to BSB and N'Sync. Lou Pearlman spent a lot o time and Money Investing in them and when they "Did" make what little they did Lou took it from them saying he had to make a return on The Investment. I remember when Ashley Angel asked "How Much" they were worth, but instead of getting an Answer he whined about why are they asking him this, don't they trust him, didn't he do enough for them, etc. Eden's Crush got only Paid $10,000.00 and knowing that what other projects they did were "Owned" by The WB now known as The CW.

I thought so. I was rewatching Making the Band episodes, and I remember a few contract themed episodes from Season 1, with the Trans Con contract, and Season 2 when Lou tried to convince them to sign his "One Sixth Member Deal". Terrible double dipping (to say the least) from Lou. In that season one episode I was referring to, they signed off for about $40,000 TOTAL, which meant that they would split that five ways for their first album...

@DirrrtyVanillaRice (continued...) unless they renegotiated their first contract, as Ikaika had alluded too, they were screwed from the get go. Such a shame for five guys that made such a great impact for all of us back in 1999-2003. I looked up to these guys, and I probably would've been ignorant too had I been given the opportunity that they had. (Not to mention if I was old enough to audition. :-P)

I dont understand. During the first season of Making the Band, they went back and forth on the contract with their lawyers and Transcontinental until they were happy with it and signed it. So how the fuck did the contract still end up screwing them?
@tamara_diamonds4227 жыл бұрын
ShaiyaStudios they did not read the fine print.
@laminage6 жыл бұрын
@@tamara_diamonds422 It's been happening since the beginning of time. For example, when The Jackson Five signed with Motown in 1968 they were still "Minors". Jackie was 17, Tito was 15, Jermaine was 14 while Marlon was 11 and Michael was 9 going on 10. Their Father Joe signed without reading The Fine Print for which he and his Family would pay a high price for. When they left Motown in 1975 Nine Months before their contract expired, they first got sued for 5 Million then 25 Million when a representative from TV Guide put a Picture of all Six Jackson Brothers to promote their Summertime Variety Series. They also were told that when the Contract was signed they gave away the rights to The Name Jackson Five. In 1981 after Six Years in Litigation, The Jacksons paid Motown back $500,000.00 and they gave up the Jackson Five Catalogue. The same thing happened with Florence Ballard of The Supremes, and The Temptations and Miracles had to fight to keep their name when they left as well thanks to Smokey Robinson who told Berry don't fight a losing battle, if they aren't happy here let them go.

The UK Girl Group Girls Aloud who were "Created" on The Show Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 didn't get a Good Recording Contract but they were very lucky. They made "Bank" by doing Solo Projects, TV Reality Shows, Concerts, and Endorsements from Kit Kat Bars, Samsung, Perfume and even Eyelashes. They at least walked away with something. Their "Rivals" One True Voice didn't make it. Cheryl Ann Tweedy who is now with Liam Payne of One Direction had Four Number Ones in Girls Aloud and Five Number Ones as a Solo Artist who is now one of the most successful Female Artists in the UK. You may remember her as a Judge for a brief time on The X Factor US.

If you think what happened with O-Town was bad, check out The UK Documentary The Big Reunion where some of The Hottest Boy Bands/Girl Groups of the 1990's-2000's reunite for a Concert and you see that while some do well. Barrister (Lawyers), Midwife Nurse, Coffee Shop Mogul, Counsellor for Troubled Teens, and The West End (London's Equivalent Of Broadway) some crash hard. Bi-Polarism, Addiction, Homelessness. 3T (The Children Of Tito Jackson) didn't have it as bad as their counterparts but being a "Jackson" didn't always mean Fame let alone Fortune.

Yes if they had someone like Simon Cowell who worked with his share of Boy Bands in the UK like Five and most notably One Direction things may have been different. Ikika admitted that Lou wanted him to be his "Boy" and he didn't want to. If yuo can check out The Big Reunion from The UK what happened to the Boy Bands like Five, 911, A1 it's devastating. Even when a group of guys from other Boy Bands and even a former Soap Star who wanted to be a Pop Star got together to create a Group called 5th Harmony. They dealt with alot. Homelessness, Addiction, lying about their Sexuality, and Bankrutpcy but they perservered.

@supertaco1995 The thing with otown is that they came into the industry too late. the "boy band" craze was dying down and people started to see it as a gimmick or a joke. Today boy bands are only big in europe. In north america boy band arent even making the typical boy band music. The backstreet boys make a blend of rock and r&b with hint of electro pop. Aside from this, NO ONE from making the band has success. Danity kane, otown, day 26, da band, etc, etc. You cant form a group with strangers
