Aurora from OP... So it's 100 bucks and it's not fire fighter friendly! But with an illuminator gives you the ability to see at least 100 m in pitch black without being lit up

Listen here Isaac, the night vision bug has already hit me hard, and this isn't helping. I can't stop. Apparently my eyes start glowing green in my sleep, and I mumble something about "going dark." I think the wife is putting together an intervention. It can't end like this....

I had the opportunity to talk to a retired cag operator and I asked him why gpnvgs were available to the public, and if that meant the military had something better. He said that they were able to connect their newer gpnvgs to atacr. They saw topography data, friendly call signs, and a compass. Seeing as how gpnvgs use analog tubes I was pretty astonished

32:38 I'm having flashbacks of the darkest night of my life, when the clips on my battery compartment broke. I lost the batteries in the grass, but I had spares and I found the cover. We couldn't get tape to hold it in place, so I had to literally walk blind with my hand on my buddy's shoulder for hours. I was so glad to see twilight! That tube got deadlined and turned in with a vengeance.

IVAS is meant to provide thermal, night vision, a HUD with things like an ammo counter, there’s a compass in it that you see on the HUD as well. It’s pretty cool, but the digital aspect of it gives a noticeable delay, or lag. There’s other capabilities I forgot about, but yea

the question regarding the military "fusion" nv, is more than likely a reference to the ECOTI thermal device, not IVAS. ECOTI is available to civilians (although without access to the milspec HUD software) for around 8-9k per unit

We really need to see a ghetto IVAS made from drone FPV goggles now. It would be remarkably easy to integrate a weapon sight camera into it using the same wireless tech that makes it work with drones.

I feel like its really doing a disservice to say that the aurora is on the level of gen 2. Gen 2 can see in the dark and is useful, *the aurora is not* . If you actually spend the time to do some proper testing, you will find that the aurora is not at the level of the cheapest gen 1 in terms of just raw sensitivity. Currently, there is just no way for a digital sensor to compete with a chemical photocathode (adjusted for area of course). If you want to use it passively, you are often better off just using your two ubaugmented eyeballs in the dark. Two fully adapted eyes are about on par, sometimes better than the aurora when it comes to just seeing in the dark. When I was testing it, I found that it can produce images at a similar fidelity to a gen 2, but only when set to the maximum exposure time of several seconds.

I've tested aurora against gen 2 and gen 3 tubes, and it does in fact compare especially with IR illuminator.

I built a set of nods with caddx ratel 2 and ncts 1.5 screen. I made my own housing units on CAD and printed them in FDE 1.75. i mean for less then 150$ a unit, i can see pretty decently and with a 940nm 10w diode on 4.5v it looks like purple daylight. Its only realistically good for 75 yards at best being able to see what youre looking at with details. Max range id say is make 250 yards 🤷🏼‍♂️ digital is pretty fun .

What is the node size of the chips being used in currently available digital NV tubes? We are coming up on "3 nm" nodes for smartphones like in iPhones. Those hyper efficient nodes are expensive, but not using tem is probably the single most important inefficiency of current nvgs.

Thats just sentimental. Its not like you are actually looking through an analog unit when you use it, its just a really clever, well made illusion. if you want to go digital...you might as well just go thermal. Same issues with weight, frame rate, and battery consumption, but you can actually see things, from VERY far away (I can see planes flying 20,000 feet+ at night, miles away). Digital NV will also get better, but its so far behind analog NV that its really just not worth it (considering today's level of tech)...that said devices like sionyx are still very useful in certain situations, would I personally buy one over digital thermal + analog NV : nope

The T-rex is a made up dino... The name T-rex derived from Theutobochus Rex who was a giant king 25.5 feet in length. He was king of the teutons in dauphine. He was found in a tomb back in 1613. They shipped his bones to america and used it to present a 'new' carnivore preditor-the TRex dino. The people didn't believe that there would've been such a creature on american soil. After a short public display they stored the bones underground in a museum to make a reappearance approx 50 years later.

Night vision is still way over priced. I understand when talking about something that can give troops an advantage on the battlefield makes being "over priced" a subjective comment. Really though. How many years has NV been in use? It gets better and better while production becomes more efficient. I good set of NVGs shouldn't cost what they cost. The base line for the market price comes from government spending. We all know how government spending works. Its a sham! 40k for panos!? 12k for gen 3. 4.5k for a single tube? We gave the Taliban almost 17,000 pairs for free!!! It was cheaper to leave the NODs behind? really?! Sorry guys. I cant get behind the constant raping of the American people. Look at pharmaceuticals. What costs us 20 bucks a pill will cost .25c in another country. 12k for NODs for us, free for our enemies because it costs too much to bring them back. Slave labor in china replaces American's jobs and we still pay a premium for imported shit while the globalists and politicians get super rich. I wish American companies would stop robbing their own people. Look at ammo. Its a perfect example. I've seen the factories and there is no ammo shortage as of april 2022. All these 2A community supporters that are in the industry don't care. They love raping you! 60 bucks for a sling!? Because its "tactical." Its a nylon strap ffs! The big companies can count on one thing. The 2A community has more money than sense. Its a shame and a sham how the first ones to get on board to robbing you is your own. 80 cents for 556 in some places. 62 cents online. 500 rounds of 556 should cost 150 bucks or less if you buy more. Have you guys seen sigs new factory? At what point do they say, "Ok. its paid for itself 1000x over." "Lets give our brothers a break!" Not going to happen. If the SHT I fear their will be no patriotism. Just splinter groups of rednecks killing each other over control of the big farm on the hill. New groups trusting each other enough to merge is a crazy long shot at best. What gives me hope is most of the guys I've met with real night vision are too old and or fat to actually use them. Easy to take out if need be. Everyone in this community needs to understand the reality of the shit we could see in our life time. Good and like minded people across the country need to figure how to come together. Maybe a central hub for militias to join or something. I've heard of multiple militias that have split and are not cool with each other. 2 rich rednecks with land get pissed because they both want to be called the leader? You see where this is going? I understand the need to have structure but you shouldn't pass the leadership to some one just because they have the funds and land. Leadership needs to come from people with real experience. If the guy that owns the land cant swallow his pride and be a team player you need to find some where else to train. Following a farmer or a Building contractor that wants to larp as a general will only get you killed in a SHT situation. Its a shame that important gear like nods can only be procured by those types of guys. Make no mistake,. Those types of guys are usually out for themselves.
