@atlanticdefense38185 жыл бұрын
With some obvious exceptions, the US Military's Small Arms Training has been in dire need of new thinking and overhaul for a long time now. Most of the personnel I've seen fresh out of basic and advanced training are lacking in even fundamental skills and to the point they need and should be re-trained so they can be moved to more advanced weapon handling skills that build and allow them to confidently maintain those perishable skills. The Military does in fact have very good basic and advanced marksmanship instructors and advanced weapon skill instructors but the overall basic and advanced programs could use some valuable forward thinking changes. Some may agree or disagree with my, it's just my 30+ years of experience & seeing what does and doesn't work well over those years.

@@atlanticdefense3818 As a former 6 year Army Infantryman, I completely agree. I entered the Army without ever having handled a firearm in my life. I was age 20. I was actually surprisingly good, but my Drill Sergeant chocked it up to me not having bad habits related to prior firearms experience. After I was in the Army a few years, I noticed many people coming out of basic and into my unit with really mediocre shooting skills. I eventually retrained most of the people who were fresh out of basic. Don't even get me started on shooting with anyone who aren't in combat roles. Their marksmanship training is laughable at best. It all needs a big overhaul. This video is excellent and this guy has zero military experience. Just good training. I love it.

What i like about this is that 1) it shows you don’t need a super tricked out weapon to be accurate. This is pretty much the same setup u had for my M4 in basic (minus the flashlight and flash hider) and a lot of dudes would talk about how nice it would be to trick out their weapon. But obviously fundamentals make all the difference and accessories just make certain aspects a little more comfortable. 2) clearly you also don’t need to be a large person to control recoil as long as you know what you’re doing and continue to practice.

I started out shooting AR-15's in service rifle competitions when I was a teenager. When shooting service rifle, you always mount your stock high to avoid having to cock your head to see the sights. Recently, I switched to shooting 3-gun competitions and had to unlearn that bad habit. Like Lucas says, it is impossible to shoot fast when the stock of your rifle is that high. Loved the comparison to controlling recoil in a FPS shooter.

First of all, LOVED the video! Second of all, I loved the tips on recoil control and they really work! I have a question for you, could you give us some tips on transitioning to your next target? your transitions are extremely smooth, clean, and fast and I was wondering if there is anything that you are specifically doing to achieve this. Thanks.

This is great. I kind of learned to do some of this running and gunning my AKM on a course because I had to brace the gun well and fight the recoil to get quick accurate shots on target. I think if you shoot an AKM or larger caliber piston or blowback gun, you learn to do this instinctively. The DI platform in 5.56 is easy to control.

I hate watching these videos... because of Lucas and Daddy I always end up putting huge white or blue numbers on sides of all of weapons, magazines and optics. I am still not sure why I am doing this.

Numbering your mags is so you can keep track of them. If I’m running different drills and start having issues on mag JH54 then I mark an X on it, if I get to 3 X’s the mag is dead to me. But when you’ve got 100+ mags you need a way to track them. That is what most guys number their mags for I’ve found, JH being my initials so nobody can steal my stuff too.
