I appreciated Lucas' ponzi scheme analogy of gun range training. I'm an instructor, competitor, action pistol shooter, have taken intensive drawing from concealment courses, but the indoor range where I live won't let me draw from the holster. They wouldn't give me my membership fee back, so I trained as hard as I could under their restrictions and didn't re-up my membership.

As a small senior woman who has never had impressive physical strength, the pistol is a natural for me and rifles are much harder, simply because I cannot lift them. I wish I had started saving up for a short barrel rifle a decade ago.

I've heard some people have motivational problems. Lucas reminded me of this when he mentioned the reason he trains. I have that from time to time, as well. I dry fire for at least 15 minutes a day (that's with transition, reload, timed draw, fundamentals) and I try to make it to the range or desert AT LEAST once a month. Usually, it's twice a month; and there are times I have problems with motivation to go or to do my dry fire. When I have those times I think of the bad people out there. I think of horrible crap, man, haha! I think back to last year with Antifa and the riots, seeing people get ganged upon with no regard to their life (i.e. the kid that got knocked out and everyone started throwing bricks on his head), the times that they swarm people's vehicles and try to rip them out of the car. I take that, and I imagine that I just took a wrong turn down a road, either walking or driving, and I have my three-year-old son with me, and these guys don't care that I have him with me. I imagine stuff like that, and 99% of the time it gets me off my butt. That 1% is I'm most likely I'm sick and lying in bed. If you don't think there are bad people out there, or bad groups that won't do harm to you, your children, wife, girlfriend, etc. I would like to point you to the year 2020. Next time you feel like not training, think of the worst stuff to happen to your family. Imagine an EMP hitting us... could you imagine that? Did you see how people reacted to a virus last year? The panic buying? Now imagine the country goes lights out. No phones. No water. No running vehicles. The predators start to come out real quick when there are no cops or 911any more. Human nature starts to take over real quick. THEY PANIC-BOUGHT TOILET PAPER FOR GOD SAKE, I couldn't imagine what an EMP would make them do! Train. It's a 15-minute dry fire out of your day and at least an hour at the range once a month. once a month is better than once every 6 months.

If you have your safety habits and basic shooting skills down, which will take practice no matter what, then your ready for a ton of stuff and don't need a behinner's class.

i like how you mentioned "staring a hole" in the target. target focus is important because you can see where your rounds are landing on target (or not landing!) and adjust your sight picture to compensate. you always say "eyes lead, gun follows" and this is a perfect example of that

Look here’s my opinion. I think Lucas’ message is second to none. He advocates the civilian be prepared and have good shooting fundamentals and preserve the second amendment. He drives that message harder than almost anyone. He never claims to teach tactics. I would hope he wouldn’t lie about training people. I have to think he’s a stand up guy because I’ve never seen anything besides this recent hearsay to discredit that. You can teach shooting and not teach tactics. You can help write procedure for firearms handling/manipulation without writing procedure for tactics/room clearing. Idk maybe I’m wrong but I’m a fan of the guy until proven otherwise. Everyone is a critic. He’s local to my state and he seems to support very constitutional mindset and I’m a huge supporter of that.

I would agree that alot of stuff can be trained just at home but it can take you a long time to figure out certain things when you can take a class and learn what dudes have been doing for years and what work. I do think it would be wise for you to take classes though. I learned more in 2 classes than what I could have in years of training man. It goes both ways.

Dude grip and sight picture, I train with a long time shooting buddy, we shoot custom hi cap airsoft pistol with tactrainers reactive targets, check out Tapp airsoft 22lr 3D printed split slides with red dot, target are scaled for 10 feet, custom airsoft pistols will shoot 1/2” group at 10’ consistently, our shooting sessions are epic and the trigger, grip and speed training is invaluable. I suffer from weak hard and target focus also, thanks for all the training videos. ( the airsoft training is addictive )

I think the amount of training might go down but the quality might go up...maybe. I had the same thing happen with my CCW class...dumped the mags in the center and I was free to go. I had to take another class thanks to an issue with the state of NJ, and the instructor went and grabbed his tuned up target revolver, rolled the target out farther and had me run it DAO and then SAO for fun.

All this recent hate for Lucas has helped me to realize that I wasn't subscribed to this channel, so I fixed that immediately. I'm envious that the first shit talker got an invitation to come hang out and shoot with the T Rex arms guys. That would be amazing. I'm just getting back into competition shooting and I could learn so much from them! I still don't understand the hate for Lucas. It seems like he's just doing what he enjoys. Easy pistol low-light drill- just take the slide off the frame and then clear your own house using JUST the frame and WML(can use a mag for weight safely since no barrel and no slide)Practice consistent, on/off presentation of white light safely. Trains target focus instead of front sight. Exposes flaws in master and support grip, and the limitation of even the best lights. Easy, cheep, no extra kit.

If you clear the weapon and the mags you use for reloads, you don’t have to take the slide off. You’re inadvertently teaching people to be afraid if weapons. Confidence is key.

@@BASE-pf7vl Safety first! I can’t believe I have to say that! This drill is to not about confidence. It is about breaking bad focus habits while becoming familiar with low-light manipulation. If you can not present and paint your target with the hot spot of your chosen WML(gross aiming, finger points at target) then fine tuning that BAD sight picture(precise aiming/gun to eye) is irrelevant. Getting a student with lots of “confidence” isn’t hard. Removing the sights/slide entirely is one to get them to stop staring a the tool in their hand and instead be target focus first while keeping a proper master and or support grip. All while NOT unintentionally endangering others.

@@zsacrilege amazing, everything you just said, is wrong. If you’re doing low light training in doors, probably not very many people just there in the dark. What you are describing is basically pointing a stick at something. It doesn’t practice proper sight(or dot) alignment, and yes you can do both depending on your equipment. It doesn’t help you learn the weight of a weapon. You could do reload training but, again, lack of weight. You’re basically teaching people how to be really fast and accurate with a flash light. Good luck with that mindset and training.

(see you leaned something) what you will inevitably find if you care to think about it, is that when you transition back to dry, simulated, or live fire training is that your sights/dot pic will already be in the middle of your lights hot spot anyway. Light travels faster than any bullet, but the dark doesn’t have to travel at all. It is mandatory to have PID first! You can not shoot what you cannot see! My light has a gun on it! That really does make sense right, they're down a little closer to sight lining the target and their mass keeps them lil feets planted firmly. Then their as seen on camera proportionally massive looking lil arms can go to work maintaining target acquisition and repeatability of those ringers.

Great live and I agree with 99% of what you said. I disagree that draw speed is less than 5% of shooting. The vast majority of gunfights are won by the person who gets the first hit, and self defenders we are always working from an initiative deficit.

I’m in a group that rags on Monarch Defense. He does training classes in Cali and it’s so bad. ND’s, flagging each other, letting beginners run in front of muzzles at almost complete darkness while other people are shooting.

Big frame and muscles are preferred for soldiering. Not shooting. Shooting is only one small part of soldiering. A thinner faster frame would be better for speed and competing

You could have just opened with "avoid snake oil salesmen trainers" Most of this sounded like you should avoid taking classes until about 32:10, after that I understood what you were talking about. I applied some scrutiny when I selected my first class and anything under 1200 rounds that doesn't stretch multiple days with night shoots I wouldn't even refer to as a proper class I take it most people didn't have a first experience like that.

Ccw class is a huge waste of time and money. It's 95% legal stuff. I mean ok...it's not a waste of time, but cmon man you walk in not knowing how to shoot and then walk out still not knowing how to shoot. The instructor doesn't give a damn because the only reason he's doing it is because the law requires a certificate. I agree with Lucas. More specialized concealed defensive training needs to be included and not separate.

Yo, I can't find a range that will let me move and shoot. They won't let me draw from a holster or reload. Theres just no options within 2 or 3 hours. There are indoor and outdoor ranges with restrictions like you literally have to stand still behind a box or table and shoot slowly. How the hell do you train when you don't have a real range?

Regarding the dry fire practice, has anyone tried the Coolfire system? I noticed it on the double alpha website. It uses CO2 to cycle your pistol and let you practice drawing and dry firing and you use your actual gun. It looks cool.

I set up targets in my house. Cut out a square of sheet rock and put a target over it. All the pellets stay in the wall.

I also want to mention, the one thing I was missing for years that was slowing me down is tightening my pinky up on my strong hand. It was funny when I figured that out because it was at an indoor range with my parents. I’d trained myself to pull the trigger as soon as my sights were back on target. I tightened up my pinky up and suddenly I was shooting fast enough that my dad was afraid we were going to get yelled at. So. Loosen your strong hand. Tighten your support hand. Then retighten your pinky on your strong hand, leaving the other fingers loose. If you’ve got the other stuff right, that will improve your speed and accuracy dramatically. Least it did for me.
