Jeff Kuper More taxes won't reduce the debt, the government spending and tax rates having only risen with debt. There's a strong correlation. The more money the govt has, the more it spends on entitlement programs. It spends more than the taxes collected as it is which fuels the debt!! It's better to let people keep their money and trust them to invest wisely. That would pump in more money into industries and fuel growth via private investment and consumption. This would improve our trade deficit by making national products cheaper( because they are taxed low, people have more money to buy these ), make Chinese/ Japanese products expensive via tariffs( they have been known to undercut American businesses, Japan even stops American exports to their country by making excuses such as it's not good for us, doesn't conform to our safety standards, etc. ).
