Trey Lance vs. Brock Purdy- Who Should the 49ers Start?

I absolutely think lance in the starter next year. He was my number 2 prospect coming out. All the physical tools and lance was not giving the perfect week one start. Lance> Purdy and I don’t think it’s too close. Unless Purdy starts playing crazy at practice or preseason I think lance is 100% the right QB.

You’re basing your opinions off Lance from tape we saw in 2019. That was basically 4 years ago. To suggest that Lance is still that guy is a significant leap. He didn’t play in 2020 in college, sat in 2021, and then got injured in 2022. You’re still confident he’s the guy you thought he was coming out of college? Has he played a single good game in the NFL yet? And don’t even get me started on how overrated Lance was as a prospect…

If lance is jus 25% better than last year he's ALREADY better than purdy!! Purdy will never be able to make all the throws, he'll always be small, fragile, and he'll never be a force multiplier! If trey played 48 games of college purdy would be his fuckin errand boy rn. All he needs is reps. Purdy is Mr. Right now while trey is the franchise. U dudes kill me writing him off after a 4 game sample size where he actually had a "pathetic" 800yds 7 tds 3 ints and that's wit one game in 6 inches of standing water! Go back and watch again dweeb. I never understood why they gave up so much to get Lance in the first place. Shanahan makes average QB's very efficient and effective, they can win the Super Bowl with guys like Purdy and Jimmy G. I was very impressed with Pitdy's decision making and accuracy and think he can be very effective in that system. But due to what they gave up and where he was drafted, my guess is they start the season with Lance and Purdy is the back up. I predict my week 4 or 5, Purdy will be the man...

The way i see it Jimmy G won his 1st 7 starts as well. if you pick purdy, ur risking falling into a similar hole that got them trey in the 1st place. Trey is the only honest way out of this weird spot. it's annoying because its been all these years and we know nothing, Trevor and Zach and Fields all started at least 17 games and btw those 1st 17 they all struggled, but Trey hasn't even gotten that. he hasn't started 5 times yet. The reality is he needs time to develop and they have that time outside of the teams own expectations, its just really bad position management, if you give up on a young player with his upside now, whether the media likes it or not. He will get the 1st shot. purdy like the backup he was drafted to be needs to be ready to clean up the mess if there is one. no, this isn't the story of the next tom brady.

@Daniel Rodriguez By the similar hole i mean, starting a guy with low upside who isn't going to win a super bowl, which is kinda what purdy is, all love to purdy. i don't hate him, but if you break down his game the holes are about as leaky as Trey's but he lacks trey's upside to compensate for it. my interpretation of purdy is, his floor was higher than a lot of people gave him Credit for entering the league. i just feel that his game is what it is. Where the idea of trey is if you teach him to be just as efficient as Purdy or Jimmy, he's suddenly near top 10 asset in the league discussions at his position. Where he's raw and a project as a passer but like... among raw developmental prospects, i think he grades and stacks up well in the grand scheme. The reason he was drafted so high can be explained by the fact he arguably has the highest passer rating in the history of college QB's in their 1st 12 starts. Remember both of them are coming in injured lol. its gonna be a race to see who makes to camp healthy 1st lol. people haven't seen trey in forever so its out of sight out of mind easy to dismiss him. But i just think if its a fair battle trey is just so much more talented he beats him head to head. its like asking you, would you rather have Matt Stafford or Jared Goff as ur QB? and niners fans saying Goff just because he's the healthy one.
