OU hired BV over Heupel because they wanted a defensive minded coach, its pretty simple and not hard to understand. Both had ties to the program when it won the 2000 National Championship. BV was a coach on that team, Heupel was a player. BV has been a part of multiple national titles/appearances at Clemson. The BV hire makes way more sense for what OU was seeking.
