Good morning Oscar, it's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Just watched your excellent latest video, it was great to see your Hymek locomotive and coaches, what a wonderful site to see. Your railway stations are just as I remember when I was a little lad. I know I say it every week but I never get tired of watching your layout Oscar. Give me endless cups of tea and some chocolate digestive biscuits I would sit from sun rise to sun set watching your outstanding layout. Your layout is a labour of love and you deserve all the praise you get. As my dear old dad used to say to me," well done lad." well, as always, it's time for my tea and toasted tea cake. Keep safe Oscar and have a good week ahead. See you next Sunday. 👍🚂☕

Hi Oscar, lovely opening sequence there! The Hymek! One of my favourite locos, both full size and in model form. Yours is a lovely smooth runner in super condition. I have one with a full green front and one with a yellow panel, both with the old motor bogies but have the rear bogie pickup and are stamped Hornby railways on the chassis. It was nice to see you demonstrate the Hymeks mixed traffic status with the rake of hopper wagons and then the coaches, fabulous. Thanks Ocsar. Regards, Antony

Good morning Anthony, thanks for looking in glad you enjoyed seeing this version of the Hymek with the different rakes making use of the railway. I'm hoping to get around to some video with the Hymek and some of the freightliner container wagons at some point later in the year. I still haven't given those wagons a go on the series 3, they are quite light and I'm wondering whether they will climb out of the points. All the best. Oscar

@@oscarpaisley Ah, yes Oscar, the blue Hymek was part of the original Freightliner set wasn't it? Oh one more suggestion the Metrovick Co-Bo was used to haul an express freight train called the Condor in the 60s it would be lovely to recreate this with your Co-Bo and run it on the 3 rail with the Hymek Freightliner on the 2 rail. Regards, Antony

Hi Oscar when your hymek was made I was in the works ,born in the following April same time as new class 50s were being delivered D414 arrived the Friday before I was born 😊,the yellow panels had printed on lights wasn’t until the last hornby hymeks were made in the 2000s the retooled the mould to add these I have a blue factory weathered on with the china 5pole very smooth ,my mate Jamie who had the big loft layout his dad took off the yellow panels and renumbered his D7000 in as built and fitted more pick ups he also filled the body with padding to reduce the noise 😊,I have a nice 68 blue mint box one too Once again great video look forward each week to it Mark 😊😊

Good morning Mark thanks again for looking in, the version you have with the five pole motor sounds like it should be a lot smoother than this old thing, it does pretty well given it basic set up and this clunky old steel track. Great to hear you have a 68 blue one in your collection. All the best. Oscar

Morning Oscar, What a great sight the Hymek makes with the short Tri-ang Coaches. I'm sure it would have easily pulled a couple more up the incline on the elevated section. The later green version in Hornby days also still had the original Tri-ang motor bogie with the benefit of extra pick ups on the trailing bogie, before switching to the Ringfield motor with redesigned bogies. Yet another enjoyable start to Sunday morning, Regards to you and Roberta from Rob & Sue in Gloucester.

Hi Oscar, great video, I really enjoyed it. I actually watched it on my iPhone while waiting at the station of the preserved metre gauge railway in the Ardèche on Sunday morning. Fantastic railway with an interesting collection of Mallet steam locos, many diesel rail motors and a couple of vintage diesel electrics. The grades are astonishing and rival your elevated section! No diesel hydraulics though! Loved the review of the Hymek today and I always admired it in the catalogue. Nice touch editing in the final shunting of the Holden tank into siding linking last weeks video. all the best, Guy

Really liked this one. It must have been 1968 when i received a blue Triang Hymek in kit form for Christmas, together with a copy of the Locospotters annual. And i too had those brown Triang station buildings, so all great memories rekindled. Although my first Hymek was lost in the mists of time, i bought a couple of the 'made in China' re issues with metal handrails and seperately attached horns instead of moulded on theroof. They look great and that is testimony to how Triang originally captured the look of these locos all those years ago.

Hi Oscar, Great to see the bit of shunting early in the video.. I really like the green livery on the Hymek and prefer it over the blue schemes? The motor bogie is very impressive (and long lasting)too, although I guess the Ringfield version was cheaper to produce? Being 'old fashioned', I of course, also prefer that type of power bogie as well? The layout certainly provides some varied routes, It's nice to watch the points change as you direct the trains about all of the layout.. Thank you for the entertainment .. Cheers, Rob

Good morning Rob thanks for looking in. Glad you enjoyed seeing the Hymek making use of the railway. This motor bogie was certainly a more robust design than the later ringfeild types which seemed to go through many modifications/cost-cutting throughout the 70s. Take care. Oscar

Thanks Oscar, the green Hymek and chocolate/cream short coaches make a lovely train. Although Triang motor bogies are not always as smooth and quiet as their later Ringfield counterparts, especially the class 37, I do like their sense of 'gravitas' so I persevere with them far more than I should do probably, but all good fun. Thanks again.

The Hymek! - What Stunning Looking Machine and What a Great Runner, Smooth and powerful - I remember Hearing these going thru the Cutting Past my Primary School as a Youngster, Hauling The Cathederals Express out of Shrub Hill, on the Worcester to Paddington leg after coming over from Hereford. I am Custodian to one of the Later Ringfield Versions of this Model (77-79) in Similar Livery and Recently Gave her a Service, and She Certainly Didn’t Disappoint, I would even go as far to Say As Good as New 👍🏻 Great Shots of this Lovely Loco 🎥 Many Thanks O.P. 🙌🏻

Thanks for sharing another Hymek video Oscar. I loved this model. I had the mid 1970s version in blue with the spider motor. I later painted it into BR green with precision paints and appropriate decals and made a pretty good job of it for a teenager. I quite fancied the version with a ring field motor, though Hornby's rendering of the green livery wasn't amazing and the body detail was poor by late 1970s standards. I'd love to see Hornby make a Hymek in TT120. The real locos sound amazing with their Maybach V16. We're lucky that there are a few preserved ones left.

Good morning Robert I've not heard one of these locomotives in action for real, V16 would be quite an impressive sound.. Hornby have expanded the TT 120 range quite a bit in a short space of time. Hopefully they will get around incorporating some of these older locomotive types if the demand develops. Take care. Oscar

Thanks again Oscar for another great video. The Hymek has always been one of my favourite British locomotives, and Tri-ang Hornby models as well. In the 70s these models gained power pickups on the non-powered bogie, service sheet 93 refers. Though pretty crudely implemented, they did improve power pickup over paintwork.

Great video here Oscar, that hymek looks to be a good model and in the two tone green looks very smart. I have told you before about the triang Hymek that I have but if you can’t remember my one is a BR Blue one, it’s a lighter shade of the Br blue, it has small yellow ends and white window surrounds but on a triang chassis, as far as I am aware triang never made one like that but hornby did but it was fitted with the ringfield motor u it and not the triang style motor, for 5hat reason I deduced that mine must be a combination of the hornby body and the triang chassis. Great video overall her Oscar, keep up the great work.

Hi Oscar. Lovely-looking loco. Judging from the maintenace leaflet, yours was made in 1967. I too had one of the original models (pre-ringfield & pre-additional pickups) in BR Blue. But recently it broke down, and as the bodywork wasn't great, I decided to "upgrade" to a later model, in the same livery as yours, although I did salvage what I could, including the brass buffers. When I unpacked it I was extremely pleasantly surprised to see it had never been run! Loved the whirring from the motor in yours: sounds just like my 37 & 31 of the same vintage. They still run on modern track, but of course, suffer from a lack of pulling power due to the traction magnets not working. I'd be very interested in watching you add additional pickups to yours, if you decide to do so. Also, could you do a layout tour and an explanation of how you wire it? Thanks, Stephen.

Looks like your track has been replated; what a difference in running. Should be possible to install some sleeved wheels in the unpowered truck for more pickup. Just make sure the treads are wide enough to keep out of the frogs, and the back to back and flange depth are OK. Perhaps it's time for you Utube blokes to find someone in the interest area, with a lathe. The idea is to make and wire new wheelset/axles and install them with no permanent changes. I missed the reference to a five slot armature. Hmm? a lot of trouble for something that already works, and wasting a donor motor. That circuit I sent you generates a pulse controller which would probably beat the five slot armature. For those of us looking to the old Hymeks for operational layouts, the motor bogie is interesting. It needs pickups on the rear as suggested above, and needs a good throttle. And like ALL of them needs monitoring for heat. Even new models need to be watched (don't ask how I know). On this model Triang installed proper self-aligning bearings either end of the armature/rotor, and that is an improvement over the plastic sleeves on the Brush 2 bogie. Both of these bogies feature nylon(?) axles in mazac/zamac bearings. Does anyone know how this wears? The nylon wormwheel on brass worm should be OK, but nylon on nylon...Hmm? Probably a good idea to wake up 'Snooze' and ask him. With brushes again available these locos are worth investigating. Two last ideas: the slide clip atop the bogie has a tendency to gouge the plastic shell mount. Worth placing a couple of slithers of brass or tin-plate under the clip to take the wear. If you have no metal, (carefully and with gloves) take some tin snips to a can top. I would love just one dollar for every cut I have had. Also, a bit of careful scraping around the shell/chassis clips helps guard against breakage when disassembling. When operating your Hornby/Triang/Wrenn, just think one modern production loco would probably pay for nearly all of your collection (I'm lousy). Also, you have a mechanism you can service. Try and replace the brushes on modern productions - and that's if you can get them apart. It is each to his own, but probably we who take something, possible in poor condition, and make something really good out of it have a mightily satisfying interest. Thanks for the video.
