I’m pretty sure DJI has tried every variation of prop design to optimize flight performance for their products.

I see these on Amazon quite often for the Mavic 3. There are 2 different shapes, OEM and one that look like these. They are both labeled 9453F though. Curious to see how the non OEM’s fly. Can’t seem to find any videos of 3 bladed props for the Mavic 3 let alone carbon fiber 3 bladed props. I wonder if the results would be similar?

You (Don’t) want to install 3 blade props on your Mavic 3. It’s not going to help anything, and harm the performance. You gain neither flight time or speed

added weight on the rotational mass.. I would have done a longer stretch to give both time to cap out.. about 400-500m? It sounds like it still has a lot more meat on the speed when it passes the camera.

Nice, Dad Random! Good test. The results were what I expected since I had tri-blades for my Hubsan H501S back in the day. That craft was noticeably slower with the tri-blades. Of course, other variables apply (notably, pitch) so this could have gone the other way. I liked the sound of the tri-blades so much that I got some hex blades to try. Those were not worth the trouble, but quieted the craft down considerably. It’s always so interesting! Thanks for the scientific approach. Change of battery shows attention to detail. Good job (again). :)

It's not that they're stock, bi-blades on any drone/quad are going to be faster than tri-blades. The tri-blades give you more down force though, and grip in turns, that's why racers use tri=blades, and some heavy lifter drones us 4-blade props, but if you check out pilots that do the speed competitions, kinda like drag racing, they use a very thin bi-blade to get maximum speed. Still a cool video though. 👍
@locouk5 жыл бұрын
The speed is limited on the MP firmware, it has nothing to do with prop design
@sunshynff5 жыл бұрын
To what? I've had mine over 40mph before
@sweet_caliberrr5 жыл бұрын
Exactly it doesn’t increasing power doesn’t give more speed on the mavic
@soentrueman79445 жыл бұрын
Acktually, it's not limited in firmware, it's limited by the physics of small props and the speed at which those tiny motors can spin. I've had my mavic pro do 45mph with a tail wind. Different props have different characteristics... Carbon fibre blades tend to cut through headwinds better than standard props, for example. And as you see from the results, the speed difference shows that prop design does indeed affect speed; different torques will affect the maximum speed. That's what limits the MP to approximately 40mph.
@diegokoszutskisantamaria62215 жыл бұрын
@@soentrueman7944 Still.... absolutely capped by firmware... you can fly a day with winds of 50 kph pushing and it wont go pass the firmware speed. Max I got was 72 kph on a windy day... it was flying totally leveled and at very low power to avoid going faster.

Triblades are not loud, they are made in the quiet prop design. SEE LEADING EDGE OF PROP. Same as stock quiet prop. I would say they are exactly the same, sound wise.

Dad Random, Awesome comparison. Good information and Presentation. I was surprised that the Tri blades were slower. But, After thinking about it, the 4 extra blades possibly create a little more drag therefore, slowing the aircraft. My only issue with Carbon Fiber Blades is they are stronger than DJI blades. If the CBF blades Impact an object, there may be more damage done to the motor. Great Job!! BTW, Love Saint George. Been there several times for Business meetings at the Dixie Convention Center.

Really enjoyed this video test because I've put these blades on my Mavic 2 drone and found it to be much quieter than the stock blades, and response seems quicker too. They're advertised to increase speed and flight time, but no way to know ff that was just advertising hype, or on what type of testing they used to make that claim. Thanks for sharing this, I'm a newbie and this answered one of many questions. Another efficiency test would be to clock at what distance the drone takes to reach max speed. Reviewing your 3.5 trials, it looks like using the 3-blade props reached max speed at appx 12 feet from you, whereas the 2 blade reached max at 2 feet from you, but not knowing where if the drone took off from the exact same starting point makes that unreliable, although interesting, info. Thanks again, cool video!

It’s now Sept 2024… using DJI drone built last 2 years just completed same test with stock propellers, and a Tri-Blade with these propeller combinations, All Stock, All Tri-Blades, 2 Front Stock Propellers, 2 Rear-Tri Blade Propellers and lastly 2 Front Tri-Blade Propellers-2 Rear Stock Propellers speed test. Will post Results if there is anyone still here researching 🤷♂️🤔
@jhayjay-2x4 ай бұрын
Results: if drone speed is concerned the all Stock DJI Propellers is your best bet with top speed in “N” setting of 26.4 mph. But replacing props with all Tri-Blade will give a Top speed of 23.2 in “N” and is the same if mixing front or rear with 2 Blade Props and 2 Tri-Blade Props no matter what combination the end result is an average of 23.3 for Top Speed. The all Tri-Blade props setup will give a stable flight in windy conditions but in my case I had a motor overload on both rear props and the drone rear arms experienced massive shaking which was contributed to stiff propellers on the Tri-Blade Prop. Depending on your type of Tri-Blade just loosen each blades to have some play when the motors are started. Stiff blades will also make the propellers report a motor failure warning and motor overheating when the drone liftoffs or when using it for speed. Also with the Tri Blades installed you will regularly get a warning prompt that Propeller guards are detected. The benefit with the Tri Blade configuration is you get more lifting capability and thrust using Tri-Blades. I use Tri Blades when doing drone recovery activities Once I knew the limitations of each Setup be it All Tri-Blade or a combo 2 blade and Tri Blade prop. Just used it appropriately and accordingly to your task Drone used in the testing was a Refurbished DJI Air 3 with the DJI Props and two aftermarket Tri Blade Propellers

Dad Random yes! I wonder could Parrot Bebop 2 get faster speed if the tri blade were replaced with 2 blade prop. The one that are on my Bb 2 are noisy, but top speed in sports mode in 42mph. Could it be higher with 2 blade props. Hmmm! 👍🏽😎

Unfortunately, your test does not make sense because the tri blade propeller probably needs a longer distance for acceleration. As proof of this in your film in 7 minutes 44 seconds, the screen shows a speed of 35.3 mph outside of the measuring point. You must measure it over a longer distance.
@DadRandom5 жыл бұрын
The test doesn't show this, but the Tri- Blades are maxed out at this distance. Tri Blades resist the air more than dual blade propellers. I cannot get any more speed out unless I tweak the ESC's and controller. There is a reason DJI puts dual blade props on their quads. They are more efficient. Thanks for your input Krzyszof 😎
